About
Sector Unknown is an immersive isometric RPG that draws inspiration from classics like Fallout 1/2, Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout: New Vegas, as well as more modern titles such as Wasteland 3, Encased, Colony Ship, Trudograd, and Pathfinder: Kingmaker.
Every decision, every nuance in character development has tangible consequences. While combat is a viable approach, the game equally emphasizes alternative strategies for progression, inviting players to leverage their character's unique abilities to navigate through the narrative creatively and diplomatically.
In Sector Unknown, your saga begins as a prisoner aboard a transport ship from which you escape in a commandeered escape pod, crash-landing on Maku, a forsaken world veiled within a remote and uncharted region of space. This planet becomes the foundation of your odyssey as you convert it into a stronghold and base of operations. From there, you will set forth into space, exploring distinct worlds and locations, each teeming with its own factions and unique stories.
In your quest, you will confront the shadowy dealings of Star Frontier, the powerful mega-corporation that once imprisoned you. Operating unchecked in the hidden 'null sector'—now erased from all official star charts—Star Frontier has established a tyrannical reign of terror and destruction. Your mission becomes to unite the sector's backwater and abandoned planets, through either force or diplomacy, and overthrow their oppressive rule once and for all.
Sector Unknown weaves themes of exploration, discovery, conflict and greed, crafting an epic tale of adventure and rebellion in the boundless expanse of space.
Before you begin your journey in Sector Unknown, you will first need to build your character, including their origin and personality. The origin selection offers both combat and non-combat advantages that deeply influence gameplay dynamics, including unlocking dialogue options and allowing for world interactions. The personality trait also augments one combat and non-combat ability.
Your character’s physical attributes will determine their combat efficacy and survivability. There are six main physical attributes: Strength, Coordination, Vision, Speed, Aggression, and Intelligence.
You can also hone a range of non-combat skills as well such as Engineering, Science, Computers, Biology, Finances, and Piloting. Non-technical skills include Intimidation, Persuasion, Perception, Luck, and Larceny. Each skill offers players an avenue to navigate story challenges, ensuring a multi-dimensional gameplay experience.
Throughout the main narrative of Sector Unknown, you will traverse a spectrum of unique planets, each with distinct factions and individual story arcs.
Some of these planets include:
Maku: A desolate, lifeless planet where your journey begins, setting the stage for the vast unknown ahead.
Nabi: A harsh desert planet where two groups, stranded after a crash, battle each other for survival amidst the endless sands.
Eremtera: A frozen world encased in ice, harboring an abandoned group of Star Frontier soldiers who you will need to convince to join your cause.
Helfyr: A volcanic world teeming with lava and fire, where a mysterious cult rises after the first child in a century is born amid the chaos.
Sjo: Once a thriving oceanic outpost, now abandoned to lawlessness and disorder, its waves conceal secrets and dangers alike.
And more.
Each location promises a distinct environment and set of challenges that contribute to the rich tapestry of the game’s universe.
Your base will of course serve as a nexus for other activities as well, one of which will be the building of a bounty terminal, allowing you to pick up death mark contracts. With these contracts, you will track down elusive criminals across the various planets, with more perilous and rewarding bounty contracts unlocked through the research system.
The research system in Sector Unknown is built upon the non-combat technical skills of your character. Take Biology for example: its research tree unfolds uniquely, unlocking components based on your character's skill level in that area. Similarly, Computers, Science, Engineering, Finances, and Piloting each come with their own distinct trees. These branches not only offer enhancements, bonuses, and unlocks but also underline the importance of your character’s skill increases and leveling choices.
The uprising itself will be undertaken on a galactic scale, adding a strategic layer to the game. As you progress through the story, you will bring new planets and factions into their alliance, expanding both your influence and reach. However, with each new planet added to your coalition, the stakes rise, thrusting them deeper into conflict with Star Frontier. Meeting this growing challenge requires reinforcing newly acquired planets, recruiting specialized support staff, building formidable fleets, and tackling pivotal side missions. The culmination of these efforts is reflected in your War Score. This score not only contributes to your character’s destiny but also that of the planets under your control as well.
After claiming the abandoned mining facility on Maku as your base, you will be able to do many things from there, including crafting, enabling the forging of weapons, armor, shield generators, narcotics, injectors, and even starships. The crafting system boasts a rich matrix of over fifty organic and inorganic materials, encompassing everything from metals and inert gases to chemicals, fungi, and various flora. Successful component combinations yield superior items, tipping both combat and non-combat scenarios distinctly in your favor.
In Sector Unknown, every choice you make shapes your journey. As you traverse through null sector, your interactions with characters and factions on each planet will uniquely influence the narrative. Your decisions determine not only the outcome of each planetary story arc but also the fate of the entire sector. From forging alliances to making tough moral choices, your path is yours to define. Whether through diplomacy, strategy, or combat, your story will unfold in a way that reflects your personal play-style and decisions, culminating in a truly bespoke gaming experience where you are the architect of your destiny.

I'm absolutely loving this game so far. This is exactly the kind of cRPG I want to play. It feels strongly of Fallout 1 plus having a party to back you up. It's extremely apparent that the dev has a deep love and appreciation for cPRGs. If you're a junkie like me, you will love this. Some touches I really enjoy: 1. Extremely free character customization. All your party members join with unallocated attributes, skills, etc. This diminishes their sense of uniqueness but it means you don't have to psychically know what upcoming companions are good at before you make character choices. Skills can also be respecced for cheap. 2. The game is fully party-inclusive for skills. As long as anyone in your active party is good at Persuasion, their skill level gets used for Persuasion checks. You don't have to magically know what kills your main character needs to specialize in. 3. Some very cool spice that isn't always inherent to cRPGs. There are some cool galaxy-spanning resources and progression to care about, which I've really enjoyed so far. There are some minor negatives, but not enough to detract from the game. The overall visual fidelity isn't great; animations are pretty weak and lack reactivity in combat. Outside of dialogue, companions feel samey; a couple have unique perks but so far most don't. Overall this game is exactly my kind of game and is a strong recommend to any oldschool cRPG fans.
I enjoyed this game. It ran smoothly with no crashes. The story was interesting, and the missions engaging. I did struggle with locating people and places...and could have used more description in mission details. I had to refer to the Steam discussion for solutions. I also used Wand for a cheat trainer which made the game more enjoyable for me. Amazing effort from a Solo Developer. Congratulations. A game well done.
Freakin' Niiiiiiiiccccccceee. Thank you. Great Story and Narratives etc, Combat is Nice, even though it is a Tactical RPG, Great CRPG all around.
после загрузки камера улетает влево как будто я держу клавишу A, при этом это не прекращается, другие манипуляции с камерой это не перебивают, играть невозможно становится Боёвка не очевидная, описание скиллов забей сильно дофига надо дработать, это возврат
This was a fun game. I played the game twice when I learned how important base protection is, which I did to the max that I could: 80%. The first time, I left it at 20%. The endings were the same, complete defeat. Oh, well, no matter. I enjoyed it. I wish there was more hints in doing the missions. There were four I never found where to do them, despite having been everywhere. That's a minor gripe. My advice to everyone is the key is to speicalize your team members. Generalism does not work here. 75/100
This is more of a neutral. Sector Unknown has everything a fan of fallout would want. Stats and derived stats. Skill checks. Combat. But there's plenty missing here too. No random encounters. No pick pocketing. Combat itself is trash. Totally an afterthought. Click on enemy and shoot gun. That's it. You want to know the secret to making the combat negligible? Max out intelligence on all your characters, with the rest in speed. That way , you have more actions per turn and you'll level up tremendously fast. Like I said, everything becomes negligible. Combat encounters become a match of who can kill the npc faster, with the random glancing blows. It's really boring combat. On top of all that, you'll pass every single skill check because you can have 4 party members, and if you spread out their skills evenly, everyone covers everything. Writing is pretty good. I'll give it that. I laughed on occasion. Animations are poor. Almost no animations. Poor performance. it's Unity, so what you get here is memory leakage after 30 minutes, causing the game to stutter uncontrollably. There are 6 planets. Each planet has bout 3 hours of content. You land, click on every single npc and get their quests, then move around and complete those quests. Sometimes you wont enter combat for hours due to being able to skip everything with skill checks. Each planet has one dungeon that has around 5 unskippable fights, and you repeat this over and over. There's this mechanic called a War Score but it's never explained how it functions. You can purchase research upgrades that provide things for your base and I'm assuming it all functions for the last encounter with the big boss of the game, Star Frontier. You can buy things like robot soldiers and weapon cache's but I dont know how they work with relation to anything in the game...I get some upgrades from some of the items, but others I'm not sure how they function, and nothing is explained. I left the starting planet hours ago and never felt the need to go back to purchase further upgrades. And the game never pushes you to do so either, so I'm unsure if I even need to bother with the mechanic. Other than that, I feel no reason to come back and play this. You wont get a different outcome since you can clear any skill check and I doubt there are different endings or outcomes if you made a different choice, every choice boils down to you either, skipping a fight....or getting the item from the NPC using another skill check. Totally boring stuff here. It's more of a neutral review because its one developer so I'm cutting him some slack.

Its a very good game with cool quests a few bugs but nothing serious
I can bet that developers played "Stellar tactics", were not satisfied with the result and decided to create their own "Stellar tactics". With hookers and blackjack!
