Vicky Potter und der Fluch der Kobolde. Runde 2
Nun widme ich mich direkt im Anschluss dem dritten Teil. secrets of magic 2: witches and wizards continues victoria's adventures and her quest to find and free her parents. in the first game she finished wizard school and learned all the spells (i.e.: unlocked all the power-ups), then it was game over. now it's time to track down agnes (the big bad) and sort her out. of course, there's a macguffin to find first, the only thing that can break the spell keeping her folks hostage, which in turn requires the book of four elements. naturally, the macguffin consists of four parts, each made up of 20(!) fragments. and this is all before agnes rips all the the pages out of the book. you can imagine the story's not gonna progress fast in this one either, but there's some payoff at the end at least. there's very little difference from the first game, so you might want to consult my review of that linked above. typical match-3 action on 100 levels unlocked one by one, matching 4+ tiles creates various power-ups destroying stuff in different shapes, and there are keys to bring to the bottom to unlock more of the level. even though you learned and upgraded everything in the first game, you start with nothing and have to find and upgrade all the spells/power-ups again. understandable from a gameplay perspective, not so much otherwise. relaxed and challenge modes once again, the latter with a move limit. the 3-star rating is based on that instead of points this time, but it's still not used for anything, just like completion time displayed at the end of a level. there's a second layer of difficulty regarding the amount of obstacles and power-ups: casual has fewer obstacles and more power-ups, expert the other way round. the first game was pretty easy on relaxed, fine with me, but since moves determine the star rating even on relaxed, if you want to perfect everything here, might as well play on challenge mode. I turned off limited moves for a reason and ignoring ratings made shorter work of the game (about 6 hours instead of 10ish), but spiders and imps were still annoying as hell. same lovely and varied tilesets and backgrounds with the exact same music, separate volume settings, windowed mode, custom cursor, tutorial and match hint toggles, some languages, and in-game representation of achievements. what's missing is a particle toggle for the cursor. I don't mind a fancy one, but this keeps spewing sparkly things all over the place and it's annoying. since it's pretty much the same as the first game, which was one of the better match-3 titles on the market, I can only say the same about this: worthy addition to anyone's collection, unless you don't want more of the same.
A charming sequel to the first game. Now that the main character has studied and gained her knowledge of magic spells, she needs to rescue her parents from the evil witch. Game play is just like in the first game. Matche 3 or more of the object to clear than from the board. There is always a goal that you have to do (mostly to break free something that has been bound in wooden boxes. There are spiders and imps that try to stop you but you can use your spells (on the right side) once they have powered up) to help defeat them. The spiders are more annoying in this game than the last because there are more of them! I had no problems or glitches during my time playing this game. The graphics are cute with cartoon story scenes. Sounds are magically delightful. Achivements are doable without being too much. (I finished game and got all achievments in under 10 hours according to Steam--felt like much longer!) I highly reccommend this match 3 game. It's cute, the gameplay keeps you on your toes instead of being boring, and the music and story scenes all come together to make one charming package.
A 3-match puzzle worth playing Easy achievement
"Secrets of Magic 2: Witches and Wizards" is a fun little Match 3 casual game. It took me 14.6 hours to complete it with all Achievements. Since the list price is just about $10 (and I bought it for about $5), it's definitely worth the money (I'm recommending it). I only have a couple of minor nits with it. First, even though the tutorial explains just about everything, it didn't mention the flask and explosive "tiles" (easily figured out). And, second, even though I got the full 3 stars on level 99 (there are 100 total levels), it only recorded that as 1 star. So, after finishing the game, I didn't get the "All Stars" Achievement. Looking at the in-game Achievement area showed I was short 3 stars (297/300 -- which is odd, since with the recorded 1 star on that level, I should have had 298/300). I re-did the level (getting all 3 stars) and this time, it recorded as such (and I got the Achievement). Other than that, no issues at all. A nice, enjoyable game.
If you like challenging Match 3 games, this one might hit the mark for you. Puzzle difficulty increases as you go, at a good pace. Expect to repeat levels to get 3 stars on all of them- you can restart each level from the menu button up top during the level, or you can repeat levels by double clicking them on the map after you have completed them. The art is cute and colorful, and the music fits the setting, though it is very repetitive. (You can turn it to 0 volume in the settings.) 2 Difficulty settings- Easy and Expert. 2 game modes- Casual and Challenging. Weird issue with the counter in Steam Achievements (doesn't always advance properly), but all achievements will unlock and can be checked on in the in-game achievement window. ***{b]Accessibility*** No UI or text scaling. No color-blindness options. Some text is really small and in a font that may be hard to read. The game really does not explain some things well- like the Torch Power-up. It says to use it to remove spider webs, but you also need to use the torch on the spiders hanging from the top shooting webs at tiles and locking them. You can find an easier level (level 23 was good for me) to replay and torch the spiders for one achievement). Should be fine for Deaf and HoH players. May present issues for players with low vision or color-blindness. The bright colors, sometimes chaotic action on the board, explosions from bombs and rockets, and vague instructions can be over-stimulating and confusing. Has flashing lights and bright graphics that could be a concern for people with photo-sensitive neurological conditions. ********************************************** It's a fun Match 3 with some customization for difficulty settings, and it can be addictive and frustrating at the same time. I have been enjoying it and am not quite done at the time of this review (7.9 hours) and expect a few more hours to complete it. The story is fine for this type of game- don't expect a literary masterpiece, just a simple story in a magical fantasy setting. Full price seems fine for this game, get it on sale like it is right now ($1.99) for a steal on a fun casual Match 3 game.
Saved the world by doing Match-3. Still hate those spiders and imps. Onto the next one.
Just as fun as the first one, enough of a challenge to keep you from getting bored but not so challenging that you're pulling your hair out.
