About
Schmaragon is an exciting third-person indie MOBA with shared experience, created using assets from Paragon.
Inspired by EVE Online, renowned for its notoriously steep learning curve, this MOBA follows similar game mechanics and may initially feel overwhelming. It also features a high time-to-kill (TTK); just as taking down a high-level ship in EVE Online can take hours, eliminating certain high-level heroes in this game may take significantly longer than in other MOBAs.
Variable-powered heroes: Some heroes are significantly more powerful than others. For example, the Juggernaut role is 4 to 5 times more powerful than the Scout role.
Hero companions: A mutt or a beast that you can control, providing you with combat and tactical advantages.
Schmaragon players can choose which abilities they want their heroes to have, and they can even change their heroes after the match has already started.
Schmaragon employs a team-based leveling system, where all team members share the same XP level and acquire abilities and items simultaneously.
Because all team members always maintain the same XP level, players can leave the match at any time, knowing that they will be promptly replaced by another player of the same XP level.
Therefore, we've introduced some interesting measures. A 1-minute AFK (Away From Keyboard) period will result in removal from the match, while 2 minutes of no contribution (e.g., no damage dealt to enemies) will lead to a ban from the match.
Team members can also vote to ban other team members from the match (requiring 4 out of 6 votes).
Hero roles (the Juggernaut, the Skirmisher, and the Scout) have different levels of impact on the match's outcome. The Juggernaut role has the biggest impact, while the Scout role, with less impact, is better for beginners.
Players have an incentive to stay until the end of the match due to the permadeath mechanic, as they receive bonus hero lives for doing so.
Additionally, there's a concept of adjusting bounties. Dying frequently reduces the XP fed to the opposing team, while accumulating many kills increases your bounty.
In this unique MOBA setup, heroes start with a limited number of lives. They lose lives when defeated but can regain them by vanquishing creeps, defeating enemy heroes, or participating in the game until the end of the match. This is important: lives are permanently stored on a central server, guaranteeing that the number of lives persists and carries over between matches. If a hero runs out of lives, the player can no longer play as that hero.
The permadeath system serves to steer players in the right direction. Positive behaviors, such as participating in the game until the end without toxicity, will be rewarded with extra lives.
The gameplay and psychological impacts of permadeath:
Dying only affects you; the impact of death on your team is minor. That means less toxicity between teammates and a friendlier environment for new players.
Although not a requirement, there is a strong incentive for every player to finish the match because big rewards in terms of hero lives are granted at the end.
The concept draws inspiration from Eve Online, where players command spaceships susceptible to destruction in diverse ways. Once your ship is destroyed, it is permanently lost. While you can acquire another, the one you originally had is irretrievably gone.
Permadeath can add a heightened sense of risk and reward to the gaming experience. Knowing that failure carries consequences can make success more satisfying.
Permadeath can lead to stronger emotional connections between players and their characters or assets. The fear of loss can make victories more meaningful.
The potential for permanent consequences encourages players to learn from their mistakes, adapt their strategies, and become more skilled over time.
Questions and answers:
Q: Is the only effect of permadeath going to be that people play much more defensively and care less about their teammates?
A: This is a valid point, but we have some countermechanics:
If the hero life loss becomes too overwhelming, players have the option to fall back to a default hero (Kwang, Serath, or Crunch), which is not affected by the permadeath system. This is because Schmaragon allows changing the hero in the middle of the match. If the hero life loss is still too overwhelming, players have the option to leave the match. This is because, as explained earlier, Schmaragon doesn't penalize quitting in the middle of the match.
Q: Encouraging quitting during the match? That doesn't seem like the best idea.
A: There is a strong incentive for every player to finish the match because big rewards in terms of hero lives are granted at the end. However, if you have to leave for any reason, we will not penalize you.
In Schmaragon, there are three orbs — red, blue, and green — each granting powerful bonuses that can decisively impact the outcome of the match. At the start of the game, these orbs are randomly placed in the jungle. When a player picks up an orb, they receive a bonus that persists until they are killed. Upon the player's death, the orb returns to a random jungle location, ready for another player to claim its power. We anticipate that the orb mechanics will introduce an additional layer of gameplay, where agile heroes will venture into the jungle to acquire orbs, only to be ambushed by lurking assassins, creating a dynamic cycle of pursuit and ambush.

i have no idea what i played, i felt immense pain. 10/10 would recommend
So far the game is in really early state, graphics are great, I enjoy the combat system. However everything is too messy, sometimes you don't even know if you have enemy or ally in front of you, UI is in a bad spot. Also something i'd love to see changed is the ability to teleport out while in combat, it is rediculous. Everything else looks good, teleport idea is great. TLDR, Loved it, but needs more work. Hope the devs keep up the good work.
I don't know what I was expecting, but still I was disappointed in every possible way except Narbashes drum solo. It was 6/5
Oh man... Guys. Why is the Moba Community always so toxic? 1. The Dev's seemed to be an small Studio or even Single Developer. If you play Schmaragon you cant compare it to AAA Mobas (LOL,Dota, Predecessor). 2. The Game is free and has absolutly Zero monetization What they did here is faboulous: The Graphic is great cause to ue5,, the Game had atm 15+ Characters, and The Gameplay is also great and unique.. Its still early Acess and there could be much todo. (Most of the Character Abilities seems too interchangeable and also the UI needs rework. Also he ded the nright thing The Game had on the early Phase atm not an big player Base but always But Support is implemented which is great I hope also any Controller Support is planned? This is an Feature I like out of the original Paragon. Hope this Game will got better over time. It has potential! Keep it Up!
I love This Game, i personally wont be able to play it because i like Waifu Battle 2K19 Royal more rn. But the Game in general is better then 95% of multiplayer games that are available right now. I highly recommend for everyone to try it.
Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There's no viably populated servers/active player population. This game cannot be played as intended.

Warning: Asset Flip! "Schmaragon" is one of literally thousands of creatively bankrupt asset flips/kitbashes infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.
A lot of people don't know this, but Epic made all the assets for Paragon free assets on FAB/Unreal Marketplace so anyone can use them. This is a serious problem because it results in pure garbage like this... the developer took a bunch of other people's assets, made a crap third person brawler out of the Unreal Third Person BP game template, then put a cash price on it... this guy wants YOUR money for a bunch of free assets he plagiarised. This is absolutely not okay. When developers can't do their job properly and instead plagiarise the work of others, usually they also lack the technical skills to handle coding, optimization, or game design, or any of the other things real, competent game developers do. "Schmaragon" is proof of that. Asset flips never result in a high quality experience for gamers. Next is pricing and what value this has for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $10 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. This is a paid product at $10. It's one thing for a developer to make garbage and publish it, but when they try to charge money for garbage, it changes everything about how the game should be evaluated. Gamers who spend money on a game have a right to expect a higher standard of quality and a better overall experience than they'd accept from something they picked up for free. Does this deliver on that? Let's see. SteamDB shows a peak of only 7 concurrent players across the entire history of this game. Out of 130 million+ gamers on Steam, this is an almost invisible audience for a product the developer wanted real money for. Gamers can smell an asset flip a mile away. All other issues aside (any of which would disqualify this from being worth your time), this is a game that relies on other players for it to be viable, and because there's not enough players, it's not viable. I can't recommend anyone downloads this, it's basically dead. Remember, also, that if you give your money to the kind of unethical developers who try to scam gamers and get paid for someone else's work, you're putting your money at risk.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
After being caught red-handed plagiarizing Epic's assets and trying to claim credit for the work of others, the developer now brazenly admits they plagiarized Epic's assets. Yet this garbage remains on Steam despite the harm that incompetently made asset flips causes to the gaming industry, and the bad name that plagiarists give to all amateur developers. You can see the developers appalling attitude on display for all to see. Utterly unacceptable. Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this dead asset flip to anyone.
Love the Feel of the Movement and Mechanics. Menu UI needs some work, Store, Items, etc are kind of odd, but the game play is fun and unique. Doesn't seem to be a lot of players and bots are EZ. Give this a game a try if you are a fan of Moba's or Third Person PVP games.
Its schmaragon, there is nothing more to say!
/!\ MIXED REVIEW /!\ Playerbase is sadly a bit low as of now, it's difficult to make one's opinion on the many interesting ideas the devs introduce in this project. But I'll try to provide a clear summary. For a starter, I'd say I am no hardcore moba material at all, just played some LoL, OG Paragon, Gigantic and Smite here and there with friends. And quite some Paladins, if that means anything. But in no case I regard my opinion as the most relevant here. Yet the game needs some insightful feedbacks, so here it is. The GOODS : ========= + No third party programs installation or subscription is needed to play the game. It is as simple as "download, launch, play". + The team-based experience design is refreshing the moba formula, reducing the shaming/blaming while allowing less proficient players to do their part for their group. It therefore enhances the teamwork spirit. + The balance between characters stats/abilities and the items pool is rather fine. You have contrasted achetypes and can further specialize them with a limited yet sufficient enough equippable items. This offers several complexity layers in accessibility. + You suffer no penalty for leaving, can reconnect at will, and choose whichever side you want. No more matchmaking and waiting ! + The game is beautiful, and benefits from Paragon props/models/animations/FXs The CONS : ======== - Not enough players yet... - Overall UI feels generic and a bit janky - Some gameplay or gamedesign details may go unoticed du to the amount of changes and implemented ideas - Only one map available - The game's name is honestly misleading and can pass as a bootleg/cashgrab, yep Although I am MIXED, I want to give this game a corner around the street. So here goes a positive review for encouraging the devs. It has potential and addresses problems in ways that haven't been proposed yet in the genre. So if you are into mobas, you may as well give it a shot !
