it's like i wished for a tales game on a monkey's paw. So let it be said I got the game because I'm a fan of the tales of franchise and a lot of my friends called it a spiritual successor and in many ways it is by inheriting the worst parts. Okay Pros- The combat is very much like someone combined everything that worked about Tales of Xillia and Zestiria into one system and it's very fun to play with a lot of cool combo tricks that make it really easy to just relax and flow into the button mashing. The soundtrack is pretty fun and a good enough time. The map designs are cool fun Cons- ok for one I mean it when I say this game is like someone heard every complaint ever made about the tales of games and crammed it into one title. For one this game very much plays exactly like tales of xillia 2 in the worst ways. Almost immediately you will notice the maps being repeated over and over and while it's very easy to fall this under the game having a low budget at times I am left to wonder if instead of making long maps that were mostly empty or just long hallways could we not have made shorter but more varied maps as a lot of he side quests or character quests just have you backtracking over the same 5 maps that are mostly just long hallways with no variation. A lot of the side quests also are annoyingly based on killing specific enemies with certain combo finishing moves that require a lot of timing. It's not that it's extremely difficult it's simply it becomes so annoying that unless you're a completionist or are just really good at the combat it's just not worth it. The characters within the game itself are largely flat, uninteresting, and very clearly rip offs of other tales characters throughout the series once you note certain behavioral ticks. Almost all of the game is side content around interacting with these characters and yet none of it actually has an impact if you don't bother engaging with it. In fact the game dialogue is repetitive because of this as the characters will repeat information from the side stories as if it is new. The side stories themselves are also largely just talking head cut scenes that end in running through a map you've already been through multiple times by that point killing enemies. It's almost exactly how the side stories functioned within tales of xillia 2 but these don't even have a broader impact on the plot of the game. The characters overall also don't act as if they live in the world they do. There are so many moments the game stops to deliver exposition or have the characters ask about the world they live in ways that make them seem more like isekia protagonists than child soldiers that have been living here their whole life. It often unnatural and jarring how little the characters know or care about their own world and how it operates. the dual protagonist system creates for a really annoying experience as Yuito is definitely intended as the first time playthrough much like how Jude was for Tales of Xillia and almost all of Kisane's plot doesn't make sense until you backfill it with Yuito's. Kisane and Yuito also just don't have personalities in the first place. There's nothing actually narratively to Yuito or Kisane other than positive boy and sister complex girl and the process means both feel dragged along by the entire plot of the game. Which is stupid. I say this with love the plot is extremely b movie schlock level of nonsense the overall design of everything feels incredibly slapped together at times. It's a cyberpunk world but there's no rhyme or reason for why certain things are just holograms now other than to convey that element. I wouldn't normally complain about this if it wasn't for the fact that the game has really ableist world building logic that it brings into it's plot that makes the use of holograms even more stupid. That's another weird element to this game. It has an extremely weird and at times uncomfortable tone towards disabled people that to me at least is really distasteful. and finally this game has so many ads for its own anime and it's genuinely cringe I won't say there's no reason a person wouldn't like this game just that i don't think it's worth it to buy full price or to 100%.
Yuito's Playthrough - Normal difficulty
After 57 hours, I completed Yuito's playthrough and more than half of the Steam achievements (with the remaining ones basically requiring me to beat Kasane's playthrough to unlock them). The worldbuilding is definitely intriguing thanks to the interesting 'brain-punk' aesthetic and the surrounding lore regarding brain powers, the Others, and
the moon folks, the secret research experiments, and the time travel
. While it gets convoluted with the repeated reveals of twists and such, the overall plot is sufficiently engaging to follow-through till the end. Beyond the plot, it's pretty weird how the game's reception comes true in different parts of the game. The characters criticisms being somewhat generic are very much valid at the start of the game - with the ensemble cast basically being superficial anime character tropes such as
bland protagonist, super-shy girl, cold and distant girl, cheerful childhood friend, rival guy who hates your guts from the get-go,
and so much more. That said, the moment-to-moment gameplay of psychokinesis and hack-and-slash combat is very much enjoyable. Throwing objects and combo-ing up with your basic attacks is very much satisfying. Closer to the end, you begin to see how the cast of characters become more unique as you explore their 'Bond Episodes' and you explore their personal struggles. By the end of Yuito's playthrough, I have grown very much attached to the platoon members. However, as the characters slowly break out of their trope-y mold, the combat fails to expand meaningfully despite the new team-based Vision and Combo powers, additional basic attacks, and a couple of new combat elements like brain field or brain drive. In addition, while linearity is overly-hated, this game's linear level design is only saved by the occasionally distinct environmental design from the basics like
unfinished construction site, streets and highway, snowy mountains, and abandoned hospital
to the occasional visually-distinct areas like the
interiors of advanced super computers as well as an underground entombment with a visual blend of basically every previous area
. The game's creative (or more likely budget-saving) decision of having basically 90% of the cutscenes and dialogue scenes being presented in stills with the occasional moving mouth is somewhat interesting but largely annoying. While I got pretty used to it by the end, it makes the Bond Episodes (especially at the start) and many exposition-laden cutscenes throughout the game feel very trite and painful to go through. However, some action scenes being conveyed in this method did lead to some interesting (what are basically) slide transitions to convey the momentum and motion to us. The universally-agreed criticism of boring sidequests is definitely accurate given they amount to nothing more than "collect X number of items" or "defeat X number of enemies" with some tacked-on conditions. Looking forward to Kasane's side of the story.
Unexplained systems, boring story, really mediocre characters, another Bandai Namco classic that follows the 'make a copy of a popular game but with anime waifus' pholosophy like God Eater and Code Vein before it. Just play a Tales game man. This is NOT worth your time or money, even on a CRAZY sale, which it goes on often.
Scarlet Nexus is marketed as an action-RPG, but it feels closer to a sluggish turn-based game in practice. Almost every action your character takes has long, unskippable animations. The faster animations deal very little to no damage, and because you can’t cancel recoveries, any hit interrupts you, often knocking you down and wasting even more time. The most effective 'strategy' ends up being: learn the enemy’s moveset, wait for them to whiff an attack, then punish. Rinse and repeat. It rarely feels like proper action. Even the perfect dodge feels inconsistent no matter how many times I test it, even when I’m just standing still and focusing solely on timing. The story starts with a tone I call 'Japanese logic': an ill-defined ancient evil, humanity on the brink of collapse, normal civilians having their brains gruesomely eaten by monsters to the point the government censors, and a bleak future that only promises to get worse. The protagonist is a police officer who went through brutal training, enduring unimaginable pain to gain supernatural powers that can kill him or leave permanent deep scars. Then, literally five minutes after this heavy prologue, the game completely undermines itself. Your superiors start talking about how there are so many 'cute' rookies this year, characters argue like middle-schoolers over who will be the leader of a training exercise, and there’s random flirting. Everything is delivered with typical anime dialogue and almost no expressions. Every character seems to have only 5–7 generic animations covering the full emotional spectrum. The English dub is particularly bad, though it might be a direction issue. In short, it’s impossible to take the world or the characters seriously. The game tries to be deep and dramatic but fails miserably in execution, a problem I’ve seen in many other Japanese titles. There are some cool concepts and powers, but they aren’t enough to carry the experience. I already bought it and will eventually finish it, but it wasn’t worth the price even on sale.
Оценка сугубо субъективная: СКУКОТА Дропнул на второй главе, сорян.
诈骗啊,二游不擦边,干嘛伪装成电脑游戏
I liked everything in this game except some of the quests, i don't think they are mandatory in any way tho. 4k 60fps except for the ice region and when you load into the hideout when you have 90% of gifts.
