Your aunt’s dead, your cousin hates you, and you’re stuck in the dead-end town of Scarlet Hollow. Choose your path through a branching narrative so dense that you'll see less than 1/5 of the game on a single playthrough. You won't be able to save everyone. Good luck, and welcome home.

About
From the developers of Slay the Princess, Scarlet Hollow is an immersive horror-mystery with sharp writing, impactful choices, and meticulously hand-drawn art.

Coal mines sealed off after a deadly collapse. Strange creatures preying on livestock. Houses infested with vengeful spirits. The sleepy town of Scarlet Hollow has suddenly come alive with horrors, just in time for your arrival. This was supposed to be a quiet getaway in the rural mountains of North Carolina. All you had to do was finally meet your long-lost cousin and comfort her through her mother’s funeral. But now, each new day welcomes new nightmares.
You only have to survive a week. But can you get to the bottom of the horrifying mysteries haunting Scarlet Hollow before they claim your life?
The first five episodes are available now, with one major content update planned before the story reaches its conclusion.
Features
A heavily branching narrative where your decisions (actually) matter. The relationships you forge and the decisions you make will dramatically alter your journey.
A complex paranormal mystery. Investigate haunted houses, strange sightings in the woods, a deteriorating mine, and more as you try and piece together what happened in Scarlet Hollow.
Trait-based dialogue and role-playing. Scarlet Hollow's dialogue system is driven by role-playing elements that let you choose who you want to be. Are you quiet and observant? Hot and clueless? Can you talk to animals? 21 different character builds change how you interact with the world and how your story unfolds.
A dynamic relationship system that reacts to your every choice and changes how your story unfolds. People won't just like or dislike you. Become friendly rivals, bitter adversaries, best friends, or mild acquaintances with everyone in town based on how you approach the story.
Original monster designs inspired by Appalachian myths and cryptids.
No jumpscares. All of the horror in Scarlet Hollow comes from dread, tension, and a sprinkle of disturbing imagery.
A touch of romance. Whether you're into goths, dads, moms, paranormal investigators, mysterious recluses, or actual monsters, you'll find something waiting for you here. And if you'd rather avoid that entirely, your story won't be any less for it.
Hundreds of meticulously hand-drawn and traditionally inked backgrounds. Every background in the game is hand drawn and inked by Ignatz-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
Fully immersive art. Each major character has dozens—and often hundreds—of hand-drawn sprites that interact with backgrounds and capture a full range of lighting, emotion, environment, and outfit changes.
Sums Steam only; GOG publishes no volume signal, so the true total is higher by an unknown amount.

CYOA/IF in the form of VN, needless to say its peak....
great game. didn't realize it was unfinished tho. but with how many choices you have that's maybe not a bad thing. there is so much content put into this that you will definitely not see it all in 1 playthrough. ok now im gonna go redo it but this time talk to every cat

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I put 4 hours into the demo of this game alone, and know that the additional 12 hours I've played will barely scratch the surface of my playtime by the time the full game is released. I know slay the princess is a masterpiece but this game is something so special. The way it pulls you into connecting with the charcters by having them talk like actual people, mentioning things from the real world, to the point I cried multiple times with barely any playtime because the charcters were so meaningful. That's not mentioning the amazing story that while at times can feel a bit cliche, is so well written and has me itching to play with every possible combination of traits to find out more. Easily the best indie game I've ever bought, hell better than most critically acclaimed games I have.
it the best visual novel I have ever played
The Good Stuff
Choices Actually Matter: A lot of games promise that "your choices will change the story," but this game actually delivers. Your decisions have real, sometimes devastating consequences that completely alter how the narrative unfolds. Insane Replayability: The branching storylines are massive. When you start, you pick traits for your character
(like being able to talk to animals or having mystical intuition).
These traits open up entirely new dialogue options and make previously impossible decisions possible, meaning a second or third playthrough feels like a totally different game. Captivating, Gritty Vibe: The dark, gritty theme grabs you immediately. The atmosphere in this decaying Appalachian town is deeply unsettling, blending cosmic horror with small-town secrets perfectly. Memorable Characters: The writing for the cast is top-tier. You will find yourself genuinely attached to these people, and several of them undergo some really significant character growth depending on how you interact with them.

The Catch
To keep it completely real, the game is not perfect, and there are two big things to keep in mind: > It is still incomplete. The developers are releasing the game episodically. While the episodes out now offer dozens of hours of content due to the branching paths, you will eventually hit a wall and have to wait for the final chapters to release. Additionally, the drop in visual polish in Episode 5 is noticeable. While the art style across the board is usually fantastic and hand-drawn, some of the scenes and character art in the fifth episode feel a bit rushed or unpolished compared to the stellar quality of the earlier chapters.

The Verdict
Even with the wait for the ending and a slight dip in the recent episode's visuals, the sheer depth of the writing and the replay value make it incredibly easy to recommend. It is an excellent, gripping experience, just go into it knowing the story isn't finished yet.
