I personally never buy a visual novel because it has Yuri content or any other specific theme for that matter, frankly I don't even read the store page, when I see a game that visually looks different from the standard cookie cutter, that is what usually gets me interested. Slightly unusual look for a romantic game I must admit, especially in contrast to all the anime games out there, it stands out, the character specific panels look very nice, and I like that overexposed feel you have for the shading. BTW, you priced it at $6.66 just so you can complement the occult dialogue :)? It's an early access but the game is relatively long for one path, depending on your speed probably 3.5+ hours, I went for the Bec's choices, I assume Clara can also be romancer based on the locked artwork and choices, but I am not sure, and I am not betraying my love for Bec either way so. There are some horror and psychological elements, maybe 5% of the game, and I am not sure if it's meant to be taken literally, it seems it's more about overcoming the abusive relationship the character had in the family, and the supernatural events are more reflective of her previous trauma, but we'll have to see because apparently there is still another 14 hours of story planned for the game, so it could still go in multiple directions at this point. For the most part the game focuses on the small moments between the characters, much more than similar games, literally hours of casual interactions and building that friendship or romantic chemistry, which is fine, if that is what you looking for. Sometimes yuri games can be a little over the top, but I thought the dialogue for this game was very down to earth, the characters for the most part feel genuine and I don't get that "writer's" vibe from it. The game is only partially voice acted, only some specific lines and emotes, that said the little voice acting it had was on point, never really had any issues with it. I don't know if the music is original, but I liked the main song so much it actually wasn't a problem listening it to it for 3 hours, got those optimistic vibes going for it.
Pros:
(+) I bought the game mostly because of the visuals and they do stand out among other yuri games, many nice character specific panels without falling into that anime hole, and overall I like the art direction in general, including backgrounds, shading, and overall atmosphere. (+) Not sure if the music is original (well it does say original OST), but either way it was really nice main song for the game, and the music/sound effects for psychological moments had appropriate tone to them. (+) While Yuri themed games are not exactly my cup of tea, I still thought the dialogue and the character interactions felt genuine, it was very low key, but in a good way, focusing on small details and chill moments is never a bad thing. (+) Decently large game, even in early access a single path can take multiple hours, has some choices/specific scenes to unlock.
Feedback:
- I don't have any objective criticism for the game, nothing really stood out as particularly bad, if I had to pick something small, I do feel like the game could progress a little faster, it feels like you stay within the same areas a bit too long, for me playing a visual novel is also about having that new visual feedback, and I don't want to feel like you stretching the mileage of the panels after I lost interest in them, I think you can get your point across just as well in a shorter time, move with a purpose, sure you can always take 30-60 minutes for a set up, but I still want those bigger and rewarding moments in the narrative. - If I am not mistaken part of the narrative is self-image of the main character, but I also feel like some panels show the character in a much better light, so I have a bit of a disconnect with the main art you use during dialogue because I am not entirely sure what the character looks like, you keep giving me different versions and some are better than others, maybe not showing the facial features as well as you could, and I don't have a problem with the character being a little bulky, I am just pointing out a slight lack of consistency on your end, maybe the default art should be more similar to what you have on the close up panels because that is what I assume the character looks like (oh and, maybe add some title music) Overall Thoughts: EA 6/20/2025 Ignoring a few horror elements, at the core it's still a romance/relationship experience, mainly going for small character moments, slow burn, and overcoming some personal challenges. I thought you handled every part of the game well so far, the art is cool, the music choices were nice, and the dialogue is not bad by any means, just a lot of it. EA version already has at least 3.5+ hours of content for one path, and you probably could replay it for the second character panels too, if you wanted to. Not really my cup of tea TBH, but decently made otherwise.
Niche, obscure and underrated games: http://store.steampowered.com/curator/31294838-Hidden-Gem-Discovery/
The game is good! I've been following development for a while, and you can really tell a lot of love and care has gone in to this game.
There’s something off about the world of Devil’s Liminal – and the more I played, the more I wanted to stay lost in it. I've started yesterday and haven't been able to put it down since. It's story is haunting from the very first scene and there's a good balance of trying to uncover what actually is going on, building up the characters you meet along the way, as well as finding out more about Margo's life before the events of the game. I love the contrasting personalities of Bec and Clara – I just wish I could give Margo a big hug. I also want to highlight how much I like the art style and OST, the environments and characters all look amazing and the accompanying score for some of the scenes are really good. I just got to the end of the Early Access version and can't wait to play more!
Devil's Liminal is a well-paced intriguing visual novel that's a joy to play. Plenty of interesting characters to meet and get to know, and an interesting mystery at the center of it all. Thoughtfully made and definitely worth your time :)
While I did need to play this game during the day, with the lights on, I did enjoy it so far and am excited to see how it develops further. Big thumbs up to the excellent music
Clara my Beloved <3 Straight out the gate this game has been awesome: No Gen AI {Thank God}; ACTUALLY DIVERSE YURI {Hell Yeah} AND the Dev has clear trigger warnings available for people to see and make educated decisions on their own mental health when playing which has been so helpful personally!! This game itself also has been just so lovely to play through so far! It's such a fun departure from some other classic jumpscare heavy titles in the horror genre, leaning into more eldritch horror & eerie things lurking in the dark that turn grotesque and vicious very fast before fading again & leaving you anxious for the next time they'll appear. The characters also feel way more nuanced than I expected, they all have like positive & negative sides to them that get revealed more as you play which keeps the interactions feeling dynamic & surprisingly fluid! I am SO excited to see where the story leads, especially with it being this entertaining and well done in Early Access already!
Sehr interessant und gut geschrieben ,bitte mehr 🙏
Well-written visual novel story that starts off in the natural and slowly builds into the supernatural. I'm not finished with the existing content so far (as of the initial early access release) but I find myself looking forward to seeing where things go next. The supernatural elements so far have surprised me, and the occasional use of color is very well done. At the same time, spending time with potential love interests provides a nice break when things get too heavy. The story dips into some complex spaces, but content warnings are prominently featured in the settings without giving much away. [disclaimer: I previously playtested an early build of the game with the developer, who is a friend, but purchased the game to play myself]
Devil’s Liminal is a rare kind of visual novel experience—the kind of game that crawls into your brain and stays there. The art style is beautiful (and at times haunting) and I look forward to seeing how scenes continue to expand visually over time. What begins as an intimate, emotional journey... confronting trauma, abuse, and the complications and complexities of human connection... quickly unfolds into something darker and stranger. The game sets itself up to be a clever and engrossing balance of psychological tension, relational intimacy, and a confrontation with unknown forces. This already feels like something special. I can't wait for the next round of updates because I need to see where my choices bring me and there's a LOT that I still need to unpack! PLAY IT! Let it get its claws in you. You’ll be thinking about it long after you step away.
Pros: - Art - Story/writing - LGBTQIA+ characters - Heavy topics are handled quite well - Unique concepts - No typos that I'm aware of yet! Cons: - Pacing - Not a lot of horror elements, wanted more - Overuse of similar/same voice line, primarily "yes" instead of also using "okay", "sure", "yeah", "uh-huh", etc. - Very little voice acting, wished there was more! - Wish there was more pops of red in specific scenes around objects of importance maybe? Only saw it a handful of times.
