Excellent game, a must-play for all Retro-Arcade Fans, very replayable and with an Amazing OST.
It was good I am not amazing at these types of games but I really liked what I played
Savant – Ascent REMIX by D-Pad Studio is a tightly focused, high-energy action game that feels like an arcade experience distilled down to its purest form. It wastes no time setting up its premise—you are the Alchemist, cast down from your tower, and your only goal is to climb back up while fending off relentless waves of enemies. The narrative is minimal and largely symbolic, serving more as a backdrop than a driving force, but that simplicity works in the game’s favor. It keeps the experience centered on gameplay, allowing every second to be dedicated to movement, combat, and survival rather than exposition. What immediately sets the game apart is its unique movement system. Instead of freely navigating a wide environment, you are confined to two horizontal lanes, constantly shifting between them to dodge attacks and maintain positioning. At first, this limitation can feel restrictive, but it quickly reveals itself as the core of the game’s design. Every movement becomes deliberate, every switch between lanes carries risk, and mastering this system is essential to progressing. The controls are precise and responsive, which is crucial given how quickly the screen can fill with enemies and projectiles. As you grow more comfortable, the experience transforms into a fluid rhythm of movement and action, where success depends on your ability to anticipate and react in rapid succession. Combat builds on this foundation with a straightforward but effective shooting system. You can fire continuously while managing more powerful abilities that require timing and resource awareness, creating a balance between aggressive play and careful planning. Enemy variety plays a significant role in keeping the combat engaging, as different types introduce distinct patterns and behaviors that force you to adapt. Early encounters give you space to learn, but the game steadily increases the complexity by layering threats together, creating moments where survival requires both quick reflexes and an understanding of how different elements interact. Boss encounters further test these skills, presenting multi-phase battles that demand precision and pattern recognition. One of the most compelling aspects of the game is how deeply it integrates music into its design. The soundtrack, composed by Savant, is not just an accompaniment but a driving force behind the gameplay. Enemy patterns, pacing, and overall flow often align with the rhythm of the music, creating a sense of synchronization that enhances immersion. As you play, you begin to anticipate movements and attacks not just visually, but through sound, turning each stage into a kind of interactive performance. This connection between audio and gameplay gives the experience a distinct identity, making it feel both dynamic and cohesive. The game offers multiple modes that expand on its core mechanics and encourage replayability. A more structured mode allows you to progress while unlocking abilities and upgrades, gradually building your capabilities and experimenting with different approaches. A more intense variant shifts the focus toward score-based play, rewarding efficiency and aggressive strategies, while a survival mode tests endurance against increasingly difficult waves. These variations give players reasons to return even after completing the main ascent, particularly for those who enjoy refining their skills or competing for higher scores. However, the game’s scope is intentionally limited, and this becomes more apparent the longer you play. A full run can be completed relatively quickly, especially once you become familiar with the mechanics, and while replayability is clearly part of the design, not all players will find that enough to sustain long-term interest. The core loop remains largely unchanged across modes, and while it is satisfying, it does not evolve significantly beyond its initial framework. For some, this will reinforce its arcade appeal; for others, it may feel like a lack of content. Difficulty is another defining aspect that can divide players. Even early on, the game demands focus and precision, and it quickly escalates into a challenging experience that leaves little room for error. Higher difficulty levels amplify this further, requiring near-perfect execution and deep familiarity with enemy patterns. For players who enjoy skill-based progression and the process of mastering a system, this creates a strong sense of accomplishment. For others, it can feel unforgiving, particularly when progress depends on repeated attempts and gradual improvement. Visually, the game complements its mechanics with detailed pixel art and smooth animation. The environments and enemies are stylized without being overly complex, ensuring that the action remains clear even during intense sequences. Effects are vibrant but controlled, reinforcing the game’s rhythm-driven nature without overwhelming the player. Combined with the soundtrack, the presentation creates a cohesive audiovisual experience that enhances the sense of immersion and energy. In the end, Savant – Ascent REMIX succeeds by committing fully to its core ideas. It delivers a focused, mechanically tight experience that prioritizes movement, rhythm, and skill over narrative or scale. Its strengths lie in how well these elements come together, creating gameplay that feels both challenging and rewarding. Its limitations—short length, repetition, and high difficulty—are part of its identity, shaping it into an experience that will resonate most with players who appreciate arcade-style design and the pursuit of mastery. For those willing to engage with its systems and embrace its challenge, it offers a memorable and satisfying experience that stands out through its clarity of purpose and strong audiovisual integration. It may not be expansive, but it is confident in what it delivers, and that focus is ultimately what defines its appeal. Rating: 8/10
Really tuff game However a little too short for my liking even for an arcade bullet hell game. Really tight controls and the enemy waves are interesting. Have yet to try out the survivor mode but I have beaten the game on classic and reached the final boss on hardcore. Definitely worth getting especially if on sale.
Классная игрушка скилозависимая очень только жалко что я последнее достижение никак не могу выбить, и длс с овдбоем отменили казлы.
While Savant: Ascent was already an intriguing game, this remaster greatly improves on the flaws of the original. The gameplay feels better, smoother, and also comes equipped with different difficulty modes this time around. Several other things such as sound effects, enemies and the soundtrack were improved on, too. I had fun with this just for liking Savant's music, even though I usually don't touch this genre of game. Its short length is yet another positive, encouraging you to grind for high scores and adding some replayability value.
Game is so broken that the tutorial never ends, resulting in a softlock.
