Visually and gameplay-wise, reminds me a bit of Monument Valley. It's not gonna hold your hand through any sort of tutorial, so solving puzzles is mostly just trial-and-error. The game isn't difficult, it just requires exploration, and I think that's really fun. A puzzle in this game feels less like a traditional, neat videogame puzzle and more like trying to get an unfamiliar piece of machinery working without instructions - solvable through lots of tinkering.
Short open world game with lots of charm, great Monument Valley-like graphics, and great sound design. Unfortunately, the puzzles kind of stink.
Pan-Pan presents itself as a visually captivating and atmospherically rich open-world adventure (developed by SPELKRAFT) that skillfully merges environmental storytelling, clever puzzle mechanics and an ambient soundtrack. This combination offers players a memorable journey through a lush and vibrant world. As you embark on a quest to repair your crashed spaceship and navigate your way home, you'll encounter a mesmerizing landscape, adorned with vivid colors and soothing environmental sounds, masterfully composed by Simon Viklund. With a strong emphasis on environmental-narrative storytelling, Pan-Pan invites exploration and discovery, weaving an immersive and compelling narrative. Throughout your adventure, you will meet a diverse array of characters and face challenging puzzles, each requiring your ingenuity and resourcefulness to successfully navigate. The gameplay strikes a balanced mix of exploration and puzzle-solving elements, keeping the experience entertaining and rewarding from beginning to end. However, it is important to note that there exists some occasional sound stuttering, which may briefly detract from the otherwise seamless experience. Although this may be a minor inconvenience, it does not significantly undermine the overall enjoyment of the game. One of the primary strengths lies in its dedication to player-driven progression, allowing individuals to unlock new areas by collecting items and solving puzzles at their own pace. By employing a diverse array of tools, gadgets and devices, players will navigate through this intricately detailed world, uncovering the path to their ultimate goal. In addition to featuring support for various graphic resolutions, window mode and a user-friendly interface, Pan-Pan emphasizes accessibility and visual customization to cater to individual player preferences. Furthermore, with a multilingual interface, 13 Steam Achievements to unlock and the capability to adjust settings such as Anti Aliasing and Vertical Sync, this immersive adventure presents a wealth of content to explore. However, while the absence of hints or directions may be daunting for some players, the overall journey remains a captivating experience that rewards curiosity and exploration. The open-world design, coupled with thought-provoking puzzles, combines to create an unforgettable adventure through a mesmerizing landscape. In conclusion, Pan-Pan represents a remarkably unforgettable open-world adventure that effortlessly intertwines atmospheric storytelling, captivating puzzles and breathtaking visuals to forge an immersive and enchanting experience. Although there are sporadic instances of sound stuttering, the entrancing soundtrack, engaging gameplay and memorable characters breathe life into the world in a manner that is sure to enthrall players from beginning to end. Pan-Pan is a compact yet distinctive puzzle-adventure developed by Spelkraft and published by Might and Delight, built around exploration, curiosity, and a strong sense of visual identity. From the opening moments, the game places you in an unfamiliar world after a crash landing, offering little explanation and no spoken dialogue. Instead of directing you with objectives or text, Pan-Pan trusts the environment itself to communicate purpose and possibility. This design choice immediately sets the tone for an experience that values discovery and intuition over explicit storytelling or traditional progression systems. Exploration forms the backbone of the game. The island you find yourself on is small but densely crafted, filled with colorful landmarks, strange machinery, and subtle visual cues that hint at how the world functions. Movement is simple and accessible, allowing you to freely roam and rotate the camera to observe your surroundings from different angles. The lack of a minimap or quest log encourages players to slow down and take in the environment, learning its logic organically. As areas gradually open up through puzzle completion, the world feels cohesive and intentionally designed rather than sprawling or aimless. Puzzles in Pan-Pan are environmental and largely contextual. Instead of abstract logic challenges, they revolve around interacting with objects in the world, collecting unusual items, and understanding how different elements connect to one another. Many solutions rely on observation and experimentation, asking players to notice patterns, visual relationships, or mechanical behaviors rather than decipher explicit clues. This can be deeply satisfying when a solution clicks naturally, but it can also lead to moments of confusion when the intended interaction is not immediately clear. The game rarely confirms whether you are on the right track, which reinforces its exploratory nature but may frustrate players who prefer clearer feedback. Visually, Pan-Pan is one of those games that leaves a lasting impression despite its modest scope. The art style is clean, vibrant, and stylized, with bold colors and simple shapes that give the world a warm, almost toy-like charm. Environments feel alive thanks to subtle animation and thoughtful composition, even though there are no NPCs or traditional characters to interact with. This aesthetic choice pairs well with the game’s quiet atmosphere, making exploration feel inviting rather than lonely or oppressive. Sound design plays a crucial supporting role. The soundtrack is gentle and atmospheric, often fading into the background to let ambient sounds take center stage. Rustling foliage, mechanical hums, and environmental audio cues subtly guide the player’s attention without overt instruction. The absence of dialogue allows sound and music to shape the emotional tone, creating a calm, almost meditative experience that encourages immersion rather than urgency. Narratively, Pan-Pan is intentionally minimal. There is a clear goal—repairing your ship and escaping the island—but the broader context is left open to interpretation. Storytelling is delivered entirely through visuals and implication, allowing players to project their own meaning onto the world. This ambiguity works well for players who enjoy symbolic or abstract narratives, though it may feel unsatisfying to those looking for character-driven plots or explicit lore. The game’s length reflects its focused design. Most players will complete Pan-Pan in just a few hours, and there is limited replay value once all puzzles are solved. However, the experience feels complete rather than truncated, delivering a concise journey that doesn’t overstay its welcome. The short runtime also complements the game’s gentle pacing, making it ideal for a single, uninterrupted play session. Overall, Pan-Pan succeeds as an artistic and exploratory puzzle-adventure that prioritizes mood, visual storytelling, and player curiosity. Its strengths lie in its presentation, atmosphere, and willingness to let players find their own way without constant guidance. While its cryptic puzzles and brief length may not appeal to everyone, the game offers a memorable and thoughtfully crafted experience for those who appreciate subtle design and discovery-driven gameplay. It stands as a quiet but confident example of how small-scale indie games can leave a strong impression through creativity and restraint rather than complexity or scale. Rating: 8/10
I feel badly about this, because a lot of love obviously went into this game, but I just can't recommend it. I probably could have given it more of a chance, but after 20 minutes, I just felt no desire to keep playing, and I really wanted to like it. It's style is really cute, and the colors are bright and fun. But it's just not fun. The controls for M/K were not great, you can't drop stuff you've picked up, the puzzles are either extremely easy or so obfuscated I don't know what I'm supposed to even be doing, the 'story' is so unclear I was mostly guessing, and the environmental storytelling felt more like someone relying on the fact that there is an environment that could maybe tell a story if you fill in most of the blanks yourself. I got it on sale a while back so I'm not too fussed about what I spent, because it certainly didn't feel worth 20 USD, (though, to be fair, I don't know how long the game is), especially when the game crashed because I went up to a save station and hit the no option. I know games are expensive to make, and I like to support indie devs, but come on.
Pan-Pan is a short puzzle game with no dialogue/narration. You play as what I assume is the titular character who needs to fix their spaceship after crashing it. This involves solving puzzles to procure the missing/damaged pieces from the world around you. All in all, I found this game very charming and calming. The music is relaxed, there's a clear story here even despite the lack dialogue, the puzzles are fun, and the characters are cute. Some of the puzzles landed on the more obscure side of things, but nothing too crazy IMO. AVOID | LACKING | MAYBE | WORTHWHILE | COMPELLING | UNMISSABLE
