There are already a reasonable number of VR games where you have to defend yourself on the spot against incoming enemies or projectiles, but in Samurai Challenge you will also see a comparison between you and a known samurai after each stage based on your fighting style and accuracy in a ranking system. Check out Samurai Challenge gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUroPM-TnLY There are ten parts in the game, spread over beautiful locations that almost make you feel as a player in Feudal Japan, from among the well-known sakura trees, or cherry blossoms as it is better known, to the open expanses of a slaughter field and even in a castle. You will need to defeat incoming enemies and fired arrows using dual (or single) swords and avoid getting hit. These enemies can then be swordsmen, spear throwers, but also troops that run towards you on horseback, You will also have to dodge other projectiles such as incoming fireballs. The game lets you play very intensively when you really want to challenge yourself, of course you can create a getting used to gameplay, but once you set the game a bit more difficult you will quickly see that it doesn't always have to be that easy.
Not even up to Ninja legends standard. The physics is not good at all the frequently pauses during play
Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my initial impressions review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/sWQEjszXSqc Quite frankly, when you compare this game to other arena fighters / action melee combat games, this game comes out rather poorly in comparison. It's nowhere near the quality of Hellsplit: Arena, Until You Fall, Blade & Sorcery, Gorn, Swordsman VR, or even something like Ninja Legends or Eternity Warriors VR. The swordplay in this game is very basic. You have to match the colors (black or white) to get the maximum effect. Then you just swing your sword within the right timeframe and within the general area of the strike to parry. You don't have to be super accurate with your timing or location. It is true that you can't just wiggle your sword as you'll have to do some big strikes to get multiple enemies, however, the enemy animations are very few. You've seen one horseman, you've seen them all. They all strike the same. There's only a few different enemy types. You can just strike the spearman as soon as you can on his spear and he'll walk around dazed. The enemy AI just runs towards you. There is a big difficulty spike in this game. But it's simply from the sheer amount of enemies that come towards you. It can be difficult to even see them at times, let alone keep track of all the dangers. Those dangers include having to dodge cannonballs or strike arrow volleys from the air. You do need a nice playspace to play this game effectively. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting variable frame rates & poor performance, especially when there's several enemies on screen. There are no graphical settings. This is a strictly play within your play area game, there is no locomotion & no smooth or snap turning. At least you can set your height in-game. The visuals didn't look good to me either. It seemed blurry at a distance. Also, I could barely hear the music with all the yelling from NPCs. I didn't have fun playing this game at all. SAMURAI CHALLENGE is a paid VR hack and slash wave game. It worked on my HTC Vive, Meta Quest 3 via Steam Link and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Has instructions and tutorial. Has only roomscale movement. Incremental Increases in difficulty by adding more attackers per second. Maybe buy this game on sale, if you don't have others like it. I got a free key for this from the Steam Curator program. ViVE VR curator group
Just wanna preface this and say I used the Oculus Rift S. As much as I like games like this, and as fun as this COULD be, it just didn't do it right. I actually really enjoyed it at first, but the further in the game you get, the worse it gets. Difficulty in this game isn't decided by tougher opponents with different aspects to them, it just overwhelms you more and more with enemies each level. It get's absolutely ridiculous. Also what comes with more and more enemies and chaos, comes awful performance issues. FPS drops, the game crashes. Despite all of these issues, if the game was cheaper I might've still given it a positive review. With all of these problems, the price is not worth it. I think this could have potential to be a great game in the future, but not now.
it was ok but kind of disopontid
Not bad. Graphics are really good and immersive. The feel of slicing takes some getting used to. The slicing doesn't feel great. Hopefully they can update the game and make it feel better. The game has a Japanese feel to it which I like and the difficulty is borderline impossible even on the 4th stage out of 10 so I'm wondering if it's even possible to beat this game. Either way you can replay the early stages for a more relaxed experience I already feel myself getting better at it.
