Klang 2 is a movement-based rhythm game. You click, drag, or hold points on the screen in a swordfight against adversaries to dodge or parry their attacks and win. Similar to osu, but much more flexible in the mapping. The game, like its predecessor, takes place in a neon-lit ancient Greek society where music is all powerful, and the greatest warriors can think so far ahead in a swordfight, it becomes a rhythm game in itself. The visuals are striking, and outlandish, yet familiar, and they do a great job of setting the theme. Also like its predecessor, it throws you straight into the thick of it, with little explanation. When starting the game, I would advise just going with it until you have seen enough for the story to make sense. You may or may not have played Klang, a rhythm action platformer which revolves around the same universe, but tries to convey the plot only through visuals. Klang 2 eliminated the platforming aspect in exchange for massive amounts of polish. You also do not need to have played the first game, as most of it is explained in Klang 2's story, though you may find that this does include spoilers for the first game, though not major in my opinion. While I have mixed feelings about lacking platforming, as it made the game significantly more unique, Klang was very rough and unpolished, whereas Klang 2 is an extremely smooth experience. What few glitches I found in beta phase were quickly solved, and I have not seen a single bug or glitch after release. There are no timing errors (which is quite a lot more rare than it should be for a rhythm game), and even on fast mode, which speeds up songs for a challenge, the music stays consistent with the inputs. While I lament the platforming not crossing over, I would fully that Klang 2 is a worthy and superior sequel, and, if you remotely like rhythm games, absolutely worth your time. The track list is fantastic, the difficulty is just high enough, and the world design is excellent.
Klang 2 takes a bold step away from the platforming rhythm-action gameplay of its predecessor, opting for a new style that feels reminiscent of Osu! but with a unique twist. The game focuses on precise timing within a single frame, adding its own flavor that sets it apart and keeps it feeling fresh. The story this time introduces dialogue and a fascinating narrative structure that jumps between timelines, adding depth and intrigue. It’s a notable shift from Klang 1’s minimalist storytelling, and while the approach is different, it’s engaging in its own right. When it comes to the soundtrack, only about 5 or 6 tracks truly stand out as top-notch, while the rest are somewhat mediocre. The visual presentation and gameplay mechanics still deliver a satisfying experience, but I couldn’t help feeling that Klang 1’s mix of rhythm and platforming left a more lasting impression. While I liked Klang 1 slightly more, Klang 2 still carves its own path and offers a unique and enjoyable rhythm game experience. It’s worth playing for anyone looking for something different (Or similar to Osu!) in the rhythm game genre.
As someone who hasnt played OSU. this feels like a good entry point for my mouse tracking skills. Overall this game is a good recommend. The Good: The rest of the music are good and fitting to the theme of the game The story and characters are really interesting and mysterious (I havent played Klang 1 but not knowing Klang 1's story wont hurt the experience) more than enough to make you curious about the world Has potential for user created levels the artstyle is pretty unique with its blending of CG and 2D art. has the Cyber techno vibe with a hint of oriental The animated fights during gameplay are real eye candy. left me expecting more The Bad: Really dislike some tracks and they don't really fit to the aesthetic. The suspects of this are the ones with vocals. (sheelam for example) Sound Effects arent as impactful as I thought it would be. Hitting the notes feel very quiet even with the sfx volume up with Multiple monitors on even in fullscreen. my mouse can go outside and to the other monitor.
Aaaah, much better than the first. It seems many complaints were addressed, most notably that gameplay is synced to the music, as opposed to stuff just going on with a track playing. Adversely, the gameplay now has you in a stationary position, which the original was a (poor) platformer broken-up with enemy encounters. Stationary combat, while seemingly stiff, allows the game to properly represent itself as a rhythm game. The interface is much more fitting of a rhythm game, with directional attack prompts a good distance from Klang, instead of being mashed right on him. However in my experience, responding to the rather large prompts wholly distract me from viewing Klang's attacks and animations. The story.... is a story. Like many gameplay-centric indie games, it has a cryptic plot that progresses as you earn points from the arcade mode (where you select tracks; unlocked as you progress) and face bosses that further progress the plot. There's an encyclopedia that makes you aware of the games settings and events, but it doesn't help piece elements together. Again, it's a gameplay-centric game, so make of it what you will. There's even an option to make story elements go away, and you just cycle between bosses and earning points to fight them. Sound... it's a masterpiece if you're into EDM. Artists worldwide contributed excellent tracks of which I found none boring or "not my cup of tea." Having Nhato songs is a particular treat, as he contributes to stuff like Beatmania. So overall, is it worth your time and paper? Yes. Don't be frustrated the first few times you play the first track, it's confusing at first and isn't straightforward like notechart games. Once you get the sense of direction down, the rest comes naturally. OSU players might feel right at home, then again they might find it brain-dead compared to the mayhem that typically comes with OSU's gameplay and gimmick variety. Jack-in, brave Klang, Sonus awaits.
So many banging tracks! What a great soundtrack! Vast improvement from the first game as far as the controls to hit the notes! This game was so fun! Fast speed is tough! Story is simple but a real trip! Really awesome rhythm game! Definitely recommend this one!
Great game with cool and challenging songs and interesting mechanics. Definitely recommend all rhythm games fans to check it out!
Quick Description: -Klang 2 is an awesome rhythm game w/ a sleek aesthetic and fast reaction time required. This is a great game for those that enjoy electronic music, dig Tronlike visuals, and can't read music to save their life. I am usually terrible at rhythm games b/c I have no tempo, but this is a really fun and beatable game as long as you have decent hand eye coordination. I have never played the original Klang, but I can happily recommend this sweet sequel. Consensus: -Solid Game (Tier 3 and makes up 35% of my reviews). It only takes about 3-5 hrs to complete the main campaign, but that's really just the tip of the iceberg. If you want to master this game, get all of the highest scores, complete all of the achievements, than you are looking at 15-20+ hrs of fast, fluid, and fun rhythm action. Pick it up and have a blast!
Great game, reminded me of Osu! Music is great, story is enjoyable even if you did not played Klang 1. The game has a lot of customization options in case you want an easier experience, want different control options or don't care about the story. The game itself is a bit short, but the good songs, simple but great gameplay and extra diffculty challenges help with that.
