Samson returns to Tyndalston, a city that shaped him hard, where every fight is close and every escape is earned. He owes dangerous people more than he can pay, and they’re using his sister to force his hand. The clock is ticking. The only way out is through anyone who stands in his way.

About
Samson comes home to the worst streets of Tyndalston, a place that built him hard and never forgave him. Muscle, speed, and nerve decide who stays upright. Close-quarters fights, tight corners, and no room for hesitation. He learned violence before he learned mercy, and the city hasn’t forgotten. Every clash matters. Every hit is meant to break or be broken. You cut through alleys, rooftops, and backroom dens designed to keep you moving, not sightseeing. Tyndalston shapes how you fight, climb, corner, and vanish. It’s familiar ground, but never safe ground.
Cars are not set dressing. They’re blunt instruments. You rip through the outskirts and industrial wastelands in battered machines held together with scrap and stubbornness. Ram, drift, smash, or outthink whoever chases you. Nothing here is clean. Samson’s debt hangs over everything, and his sister is the pressure point his enemies squeeze. Time is short, and the bill keeps growing. This is a focused, brutal chapter in his story, built with intent, no excess, no padding. He didn’t return to entertain. He returned because this is the only place where he can fight his way out.

Your debt grows by the hour, and the people holding it squeeze harder every day. Every job, every dollar, every choice cuts a path forward or shuts it down. No do-overs. No safety net.
Action Point System: Spend your limited points on missions that matter. Once you commit, you live with the outcome.
Law Response: Your chaos dictates their pressure. Push too far and the city pushes back harder.
Daily Quota: Each morning hits you with a new number. Miss it and the interest spikes, making tomorrow worse.

You built this mess. You’re the only one who can carve through it. Up close or behind the wheel, you fight with whatever the city gives you.
Unlock Samson’s Potential: Build his strength in both brawling and weaponized driving.
Brawler Combat: Use momentum, terrain, and improvised tools to break your enemies fast.
Cars as Weapons: Chases turn into collisions, traps, and close-quarters destruction.
Skill Tree: 25+ upgrades to shape Samson into the fighter this place demands.

Tyndalston made you tough. It’s familiar, never forgiving, and always shifting with your actions.
Open World Districts: Move through hostile blocks, hidden corners, and the history that built Samson’s past.
City With a Pulse: Faces, factions, and streets change as you rise or fall.
Story That Hits Back: Uncover what broke Samson’s family and what it takes to fix it before time runs out.

**Samson: A Tyndalston Story** is a short, gritty, and surprisingly tense open-world action game that wears its scars on its sleeve. Developed and published by Liquid Swords, it released on PC in April 2026 (with console versions planned later) and sits in that rare space of ambitious indie that almost pulls off something special. ### The Setup You play as Samson McCray, a hardened fighter who returns to the decaying city of Tyndalston after time away. He owes a dangerous underground syndicate a serious amount of money, and they’re holding his sister as leverage. Every day the debt grows. Every day you have a quota to meet. Miss it, and collectors start hunting you. Fail three days in a row and it’s game over. That simple pressure system is the best thing about *Samson*. It turns the usual open-world checklist into something with actual stakes. ### Combat and Gameplay Combat is pure close-quarters brawling. Light and heavy attacks, parries, environmental weapons, and momentum-based fights in tight alleys and backrooms. It’s intentionally raw and scrappy rather than flashy. When it clicks, it has a satisfying, brutal weight that fits the character. When it doesn’t, it can feel stiff and repetitive. Driving is the other half of the equation. Cars are blunt instruments. Ramming, drifting, and turning chases into destructive scrapes is often more fun than the fistfights. The skill tree (over 25 upgrades) lets you lean into either side — becoming a better brawler, a better driver, or a mix of both. The world itself is small but dense. Tyndalston feels lived-in and ugly in the best way: grimy streets, industrial wastelands, and a strong 90s crime-noir atmosphere. It doesn’t try to be a massive GTA clone. It’s more of a focused, street-level story with side activities and jobs that feed into the debt system. ### Presentation and Length The game looks good for its budget. The city has character, the lighting is moody, and the overall aesthetic sells the “broken man in a broken place” vibe. Story-wise, it goes to some dark, unexpected places involving gangs, drugs, and worse. It’s not reinventing crime fiction, but it has more bite than most games in this space. Expect around 8–12 hours for a full playthrough, which feels right for the $25 price point (often lower on sale). ### The Rough Edges This is where honesty matters. *Samson* launched in a rough state. Combat can feel janky. Some missions repeat too much. Technical issues and bugs were common at release, and the game doesn’t always feel as polished as its ambition. Steam reviews currently sit in Mixed territory for good reason. It has excellent bones, but the execution is uneven. That said, post-launch updates have helped, and the core fantasy still works if you meet the game on its own terms. ### Verdict *Samson* is not a polished AAA experience. It’s a scrappy, focused crime story with a clever daily-debt pressure system, strong atmosphere, and enough style to make the rough edges forgivable for many players. If you want a short, tense, street-level action game that doesn’t waste your time with endless padding, and you’re willing to accept some jank, it’s a solid buy — especially at its low price. It won’t convert everyone, but for the right player it hits a specific, satisfying note that bigger games often miss. **Score: 7/10** **Best for:** Players who like gritty crime stories, brawler combat, and games that create real pressure without being overly long.
Review but also FEEDBACK/ REQUEST FOR DEVS PLEASE READ. Review: Overall it’s a really good game, if you grew up playing games like Driver, The Gateway and True Crime, this feels similar to those games in both good and bad, so let get to it. Good: - Atmosphere and presentation is really good (I love it a lot) - Some of the soundtrack is really good (there’s specifically a lofi sounding one that I love) - Mission structure is somewhat simple, but feels like an old era PS2/3 game which I like and gives it more charm - Story isn’t the greatest, but it’s good enough to carry the motive and doesn’t get in the way of the gameplay - Tons of missions, side content/stories that slowly develop as you play, as well as random encounters. This is something I wasn’t expecting as I went in blind but I liked a lot. - it’s challenging (I’m playing on the hardest difficulty) but sometimes extremely clunky and unfair (I’ll expand on this further down) - Combat can and is fun sometimes, but if you don’t learn and get properly acquainted fast, you’ll get frustrated very fast because it’s not the most polished, but I still like the challenge nonetheless. - Being pursued by cops/gangs is fun but simple, I like how I can hide in a parking spot, turn off the engine and have them drive around trying to find me, feels a lot like Watch_Dogs. Bad: - Driving isn’t entirely bad, but it’s more on the bad side and it comes down to how the handling feels in most terrains. It somewhat slippery and high on the input latency side. I don’t want 100% snappy arcade, but a bit more grip would be nice. - Car combat is extremely limiting, for example, the best and honestly only way to actually do damage is to use the side swipe attack while next to the enemy car, because if you try to ram them head on, either from the back, front or Tbone them, it ends up doing very little damage and in some cases annoyingly it does more damage to your car than theirs. - Hand combat can be great, but needs some work as my experience has been extremely spammy on their end, inconsistent on who am I attacking and who I can attack, not being able to run towards someone (kinda like an MMO when you’re in combat and you can’t sprint but rather stuck in a “in combat” speed), not being able to leave combat and run away and last but not least the damage received by enemies can range from a couple hits, to 2 slaps and I’m knocked out (at least on the hardest difficulty) - Map is relatively small so you end up seeing everything quite fast. My first pursuit mission ended up with me chasing them down the same path which ran circles around the map. FOR THE DEVS, PLEASE READ: These are things that you can either add as an update (and should to build up the game) or for a potential sequel (which I 100% believe this deserves one) - Swimming: the fact I can fall into the water and instantly die as if I’m Tommy Vercetti in GTA VC is annoying, can’t you add a basic swimming system from Unreal Engine, add colliders to the north side or around areas you don’t want us to access and a button to “warp to shore” similar to how Saints Row does it - Combat: I believe making it so where your analog stick is facing is where he should punch would fix a lot of the jank in the fighting, a lot of times I parry someone swinging behind me, but I can’t turn my stick to him and attack him specifically, it’s whoever is in-front of me and that sucks a lot. Also, idk if this is because I played on the hardest difficulty, but as soon as I parry one guy, immediately the second guy wants to attack, I parry him and the first guy immediately swings back, I have no room to breathe and get a combo in most of the time. - Radio station(s) would go a long way at adding more personality and liveliness to the world, a talk show perhaps, or the news. - Climbing: I love that I can climb a lot of places that normally I didn’t think I could and idk if that by design, because you guys didn’t think to block off every nook and cranny but keep it that way, if anything LETS US EXPLORE MORE. My feedback here is 3 things. 1) the camera always increases the FOV when I climb and it’s very dumb and distracting, just don’t change it the FOV. 2) when I’m climbing a box to get on top of something that’s above it, if I spam the jump button, it’s as if the game thinks I’m still on the ground floor and it repeats the first climb animation, idk how but that needs to be fixed. 3) lastly, when I jump while moving or running forward, he jumps 90% UP and 10% FORWARD, it feels very clunky and not intuitive, I want to leap forward so I can cross a rooftop easier. Mission length: I beat all the chapters and only after doing so is when I started the get missions with multiple objectives, I don’t know if it’ll continue to be that way, but I believe this is how it should be going forward, I want missions where I have to do multiple things in multiple areas around the map so that the stakes are high and the fear of getting knocked out and losing are even higher, but the reward is massive if completed. Final thoughts: I honestly think this game can easily turn into a franchise, either by sequels with Samson, or with another entirely new character that also has a debt to pay, but having their own entirely unique story with plot twist, investigations, heartbreaking moments and so on, either set in the same city (kinda like GTA episodes of liberty city), or a new city entirely. I don’t know how successful this game has been, but I truly hope the developers lean into it and give us more of this kind of games in the future . I came in blind and ended up loving most of the hours I put into the game, even the frustrating bits. I want more pay your debts by doing odd jobs and beating people up simulator.
Wanted to like it, couldn't help but hate it. Trailers made it look about 1000 times better than it is. Brutally repetitive and boring.
100 percent, non gamer rage, head up butt included lol. I will start out by saying the price point is 100 percent fair. the world isn't very big, but the side content is very dense. People say that the driving is clunky and unwieldy, but it seems like that gamers today forget that they are driving a... car? Or gamers judging the driving have never driven a car in their lives. Car drives like a car. The fighting works fairly well for what it is, but I will say that there is no... directional combat, if your character is facing away from where you are moving your left joystick, he will attack where he's looking instead of where he's trying to go. I feel like for what they are going for, they almost NEED a lock on function, but they just.. don't have it? OR they could just make it to where samson is attacking where the joystick is telling him to lol. But the fighting is fun overall. You want some breathing room? Cool, throw a guy against a wall, and beat the other guy's ass. I will say though, the mid fight healing mechanic has caused me quite a bit of grief, you are locked into staying still, and are not allowed to move for an entire like.. second. Which, may not seem like a lot, but when you have 3 guys attacking you at once, it does matter lol. All in all, the game is worth it kinda, but it does have that feel of a AA game. Some jank along with high ambitions, looking forward to see how they improve it from here lol. ALSO, they got a fun voice actor in here for the main character, Ronan Summers. Loved him as Ryan from Dead island 2, and as Fabien from vampire masquerade bloodlines 2. Anyways, overall, I'm thinking I'd give it a solid 7.8/10
The whole game I was thinking to myself, "for such a mixed game, the soundtrack is great." Then in the credits I saw Jesper Kyd, and it all made sense. First off this is a lot more enjoyable than most 5/10 games. It's closer to a 6 than a 4 and if you are ok with repetitive gameplay, it's not hard to squeeze fun out of this game. For me, this game combines two of my favorite things: driving fast and sending npcs to physical therapy. Which is why I love Arkham Knight and Mad Max. The structure is interesting because every day you have to make enough money to make a payment on Samson's debt, it fixes some issues with a lot of open world games as there is this immediate goal that provides purpose to the typical "go here, do this" fare. The debt also feels real, it's not hard to make some money for the day, get into a fistfight, get knocked out and lose most of your cash with little time left in the day and miss a payment. There were a few times some guy with a car shock KO'd me from half health and made me alt+f4. The environmental design of the city of Tyndalston is excellent and it feels like the dingy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Samson makes it out to be. It's a small area that feels a lot bigger because of how detailed the place is. The one ways, back alleys, and muddy wharfs you'll spend time in feel like a living world. The real issue that knocks the game down is that the driving and combat system need to be better. I'm going to compare this game to Mad Max; which shares developers with this game the combat isn't as crunchy and immediate. There is some weirdness with the counter system where sometimes my input gets eaten and I never understood what made a counter perfect, I would get those randomly. The addition of throwing enemies into environmental objects is great, I loved throwing guys off docks, into circuit breakers, crates or other enemies. It has a lot of use for breaking an enemy's posture which lets you do a finishing move to build a berserk meter for extra damage. The decision to do the finishing move with clicking the stick down instead of a button was not wise, it feels weird to do and there's a delay on when you can do the move that leads to you pressing the button and then nothing happens even though you saw the gray circle for it. The driving is certainly better than the combat system. It will feel weird at first because the city streets are narrow and the turning is loose. Towards the end of the game, you will have a great feel for the amount of gas you need to press during a handbrake turn to get around the city fast. I like the kind of control they're chasing as my favorite feeling controls in a driving game is the OG Driver, I don't think this reaches that, but it is certainly more interesting to drive around in this game than Mad Max but that may be due more to being in a city than any changes to the vehicle controls. However, I'm on a 2070 super and when I go fast, sometimes, I get a stutter that will derail my fun because I'll either overturn or go into a wall. This game has moments in it where I see greatness. Driving at night, listening to the soundtrack had me thinking of the monologue from Taxi Driver where De Niro is talking about the scum on the streets. There are these real evocative moments and if the game was able to match its gameplay to the quality of the art design and soundtrack it could really be something. I hope we see liquid swords tackle another game like this as I'm always hungry for another beat 'em up/driving game like Mad Max, Sleeping Dogs, and Arkham Knight and from what I've seen here they are working with real talent.
I like it… the game have guns, or at least the cops have them. One bug so far and hand-ro-hand can some time be a bit glitchy. But, I like it…
