Its pretty ♥♥♥♥ tbh i never was a fan of Runescape and this is just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ half assed survival game that takes ammo to gather :D Add an EXTRA step to an absolutely tedious feature of all survival games, Essentially what it got from it was that its an unreal asset dumped survival game that makes survival even more boring than good survival games. Shallow and the more expensive Valheim.
combat is utterly janky
I really like this game for the base building. It's intuitive and allows for cute cozy builds. Looking forward to having livestock in future updates. The game really shines when you play with friends though. I mooched off of my friends who already progressed a lot, followed them and watched them fight a massive dragon. I died multiple times but they waited for me to respawn and come back to the boss area, so that I was there when they finished off the dragon 😂. I'll remember that.
The game clearly feels early access. I dropped it fairly fast compared to my Valheim and Enshrouded playtime. I can't recommend buying it at full price right now — only at around a 50% discount, and only if you're starving for a survival game. Performance-wise, I was getting a smooth, capped 120 FPS with DLSS on. Without DLSS, it was dropping to the 80s fairly often, so I'd recommend keeping DLSS enabled. That said, I really liked the leveling system — think Valheim on steroids, since you get not just passive bonuses when leveling your skills but active abilities that are genuinely fun and useful. I was playing with the staff, and switching between different runes was a really cool idea. My only wish is for more runes to be usable and to have more utility functions rather than just flat damage dealing. On the downside, combat feels stale, and exploration gets boring fast since every chest is just junk plus endless decoration recipes. I hope half the game isn't going to turn into a decoration and building-block collection simulator (right, Enshrouded?). There are also no builds to speak of — every piece of gear is just a damage iteration of the previous one with a re-skin.
its fun once you figure it out
The early access definitely shows. That is not to say it isn't a good game. I did not enjoy valheim, but the lack of gameplay friction in Dragonwilds makes it a significantly more chill experience. You will never encounter brick walls in progression. If you don't like grindy games, and want a serious difficulty challenge, it isn't for you. If you like prepping for a long time for bosses like in Terraria, this game is for you. In traditional runescape, gear swaps for specific bosses are required, in Dragonwilds it's possible to pick any class. In dragonwilds, most things are gear-locked rather than level-locked like in runescape. Levelling up certain skills is worthwhile, but the grind does not need to be as long as it is. Multiplayer is where the game really shines. Similar to project zomboid, having specific players be experts in specific things is a giant boon. Many things are level-locked rather than gear locked, like runecrafting, meaning dedicating one player to runecrafting or having each player lock themselves to a class can be convenient for all parties involved. The game optimization is not very good. DLSS is not a crutch for bad optimization. Without DLSS, expect framerates in the 80s at medium settings even with good hardware. The game does feel quite clunky in certain places; combat is extremely easy to cheese and the fatigue system usually tires you out before you finish a dungeon, meaning that for longer dungeons you have to walk back to the entrance to rest or just endure the stamina loss. I would prefer if the fatigue system was completely removed. It adds nothing to the game other than waste time; there's a spell to create a portable shelter to restore fatigue that's extremely easy to unlock. The mining spell unlocked by skill level is entirely dependent on luck, as most ore veins aren't tightly packed enough to break with the spell. The spell is also so powerful that it's faster to wait for the cooldown and go on a "mining run" than to actually mine deposits. Despite the jank, which I'm sure will be ironed out in later patches, the game is relatively feature complete and is a complete experience on its own, well worth the price tag.
BuffaloWildWings this player maliciously destroyed my buildings and stole all my valuable items . HIS behavior is extremely toxic and malicious , disgusting ----- selfish, evil and beyond contempt!!!!! HE ruins the game for other on poposue!!!!
