Character building and gameplay gains new depth when working with a squad to build synergy and overcome increasingly difficult enemies. Rune Knights offers MANY ways for squads of up to 4 to work together and theorycraft.
11 Skill Trees, over 100 unique talents, more than 200 unique skills, 10+ Super Abilities, and over 150 legendary items let you build characters and playstyles that other games can't offer with their restricted progression systems. Invest in any skill tree at any time as you level up, and quickly respec your character if you decide to try something new or take advantage of particularly lucky loot.
Gear isn't just about stats. Each piece of gear has an ability assigned to it, which you can use once you equip it. Experimentation and improvisation are key to survival until you can afford to put the perfect build together.
You're in control of every aspect of your gear. Special crafting items drop from enemies and can be purchased in Town. These items allow you to upgrade your items, change their skills, and reroll their mods (sometimes to powerful Legendary mods).
Investing heavily in a skill tree can reward you with special Super abilities. These abilities charge up as you kill enemies, and allow you short windows of massive power once activated. Each skill tree has its own unique Super.
Legendary items can drop at any time, and provide unique and powerful ways to play and build your character. Certain Legendaries are only dropped from the most powerful enemies in the game. There are currently more than 150 legendaries to find and experiment with. Good luck collecting them all!
Recruit AI-controlled Companions to your party which have all the same customization options that you do. Equip them with any gear you find, customize their talents and flask effects, and put together your own ideal squad.
Over 60 different enemies including 15 unique Bosses and 15 powerful Elite enemies will require you to improvise and react quickly and tactically to overcome them.
Trade your items and currency with allies in game.
Crusades will test your build to the limits and allow you to customize your own difficulty in exchange for greater rewards. Excel and gain access to Raid bosses which will test your build, reflexes, and strategy against unique and difficult encounters. Infinite Arena pits your character against waves of increasingly difficult enemies and bosses for a chance to top the leaderboards. All of these can be done solo and with a party.

Many of RK's skills, talents, weapons, and features originated as suggestions by players like you. Join our Discord to suggest your own ideas for the game, report bugs, discuss character builds and synergies, and share memes.
For the masochists. Hardcore characters are permanently deleted on death, have a separate gold collection and stash that can be accessed by other Hardcore characters, and can only trade with other Hardcore characters.
Rune Knights does not require an internet connection for solo play, because that's ridiculous. (Use Steam Offline Mode).
To preserve the integrity of leaderboards and the online games of players who don't wish to cheat, Rune Knights implements an anti-cheat that will close the game upon detecting an outside intrusion. Cheaters be warned.
Rune Knights is a cooperative, third-person, hack-and-slash action RPG focused on customization, crafting, and combat. Level up by killing monsters, collect loot, craft your own weapons and armor, and choose from over 120 unique talents and 60 different powerful abilities. Customize your character's aesthetics, stats, and gameplay as you battle through procedurally generated and hand-crafted levels with a variety of enemies and bosses.
Rune Knights is still early in development and I intend to let the community determine the future direction of the game. Please provide feedback about what you would like to see changed or added to the game. No suggestion is too big or too small.

The "About this game" section pretty much tells everything there is to know about the gameplay. You can spend hours thinking about what you want to do with your character : damage dealer, tank, support, running around doing nothing or any other way of playing the game is a good way of playing it. If you don't like to think too much you can also just jump in the action and fight monsters in very dynamical fights. Getting bored of it ? Change your build in a few clicks and add another 20 hours of new gameplay. The game is lacking something ? The little thing that will make your character truly shine ? Or maybe just a little quality of life change ? Just join the discord and suggest it, you will most likely be received with "This will be included in the next update, great suggestion!" or "That is AMAZING, thank you so much!" (those are real example by the way). In a few words, an awesome game with several hundred hours of playtime, awesome dev listening to the players and an awesome community (for what I have seen) that will help you learn the game and improve your builds.
I don't normally write reviews but decided to do one for this game. Rune knights is a 3rd person hack and slash style game with traditional elements of the genre including affixed gear, levels, classes, and skills. The game has a huge variety of character options and gear choices as well as a diverse endgame. It lends itself well to multiple play throughs for those who enjoy that as there are multiple different archetypes of characters, such as bowmen, magic casters, summoners, tanks and the like with multiple different builds for each of these archetypes. Additionally the game is updated fairly regularly and the developer is quick to respond to bugs with patches as well as taking feedback and suggestions from the community. The game features a crafting system similar to that found in games such as path of exile, using currency like items to change or modify the affixes of gear. Overall the game is great and if you're on the fence I would get it.
Kill monsters, get loot. I enjoy the game because the combat and loot acquisition is fun. In the endgame, I find so many legendary items that have me go "that gives me a new build idea", and the crafting system supports whatever goals I have for my builds. There are multiple endgame systems to challenge you and to optimize your builds for. Dozens and dozens of build options, thanks to a passive system that's allows you to build your own archetype, as standard or as weird as you like.
Rune knights was my favorite game about 4 years or so ago. Since then, the dev has implemented a lot of changes (which is good, he's dedicated on the games development), though a lot of the changes ruined what made the game fun to begin with. Since then ive redownloaded the game every update hoping the dev might see the problem with some of these changes: 1. you can no longer roll out of normal melee attacks??? not even the heavy ones? So like wheres the mechanical skill in that, you just get hit? 2. dodging sometimes gets glitched and you cant roll so you just die 3. the bow charges slower and feels way less crisp than it used to 4. the dodging speed playstyle got nerfed so hard that its not even usable (meaning you are now mechanically skill capped x.x) 5. minions got nerfed so bad(this is a reasonable change), but what made minions fun was spam spawning them to run in and die, like sacrificial lambs. Maybe not the big minions but the small ones. 6. Made the UI WAY more complicated than it was before, bro im lost and i had like over 1000 hours. For example, the trees i cant even read the names anymore since they are on the side of the screen. Is this because of stretch rez? The charge up bar also is so blindingly big, needs to be smaller. 7. New items, too many items, not simple anymore. And all the items looks the same. Before, the items looked way different from one another, especially the rune stones. 8. Wildshot was like the most fun thing in the game and it got nerfed into the ground 9. Mana regen and stamina regen builds got nerfed into the ground. Even with the best of the best stats you couldnt dodge unlimited(and thats with the trash dodging too). Also couldnt spam magic anymore with crazy mana regen. 10. The most important one... You cant reach high invasions anymore (like level 100), which gave SUCH a rush... like the movement speed of the enemies was TERRIFYING and you had to PLAN out how to approach every enemy that will spawn(with the randomness of what will spawn). It was the most fun thing in the game, even though the drop rates were still garbo. Like it was fun just to play not even get the loot. 11. Dev seems to want to skill cap players by nerfing playstyles mechanically. If your class is good, dont expect it to be playable after the next update, the dev will change something to make your kit actually unplayable With this being said, there is a few things the dev has improved since that time 1. Matchmaking seemed way way better, easier to connect to friends 2. Way more bosses 3. More abilities allowing for more playstyles 4. More maps to avoid repetition 5. More raids for challenges 6. Health ui looks pretty good 7. Frames are WAY WAY better 8. The most important... NO CRASHING omfg, this games biggest problem was that your pc would overheat and now it seems to have NO problems.
Rune Knights is a very solid co-op ARPG, with fast-paced combat, deep build variety, and a lot of freedom in how you play your character. You can clearly feel inspiration from games like Dauntless, Dungeon of Sundaria, and other co-op ARPGs, but the game still has its own identity. The game really shines thanks to: the wide variety of builds (Shadow, Primal, minions, bow, melee, hybrids, etc.), the depth of gear and synergies, a well-developed endgame, including the Obelisk, debuffs, and raids, and a very fun co-op experience, especially when pushing higher difficulty. With my group, we cleared Obelisk 11 with all 8 debuffs enabled, then moved on to the raid content, which shows that the game already offers a real endgame challenge. It rewards players who enjoy optimizing builds, coordinating as a team, and thinking carefully about survivability, DPS, and group synergies. The difficulty feels well balanced and meaningful. Another great feature is that if you don’t play with real players, the game allows you to build your own squad of companions/minions. These companions can be fully geared and optimized from A to Z, just like a real party, making the game completely viable solo while still keeping its tactical depth and optimization aspect. The business model is also a huge plus: “pay once, get all.” No microtransactions, no paid DLCs — all future updates are included. This is honestly refreshing and increasingly rare. Finally, the developer is very responsive and listens to feedback. Player reports are taken seriously, translations have been improved quickly, bugs are fixed regularly, and you can really feel the desire to keep improving the game in the right direction. Having a dev this involved and open to feedback is awesome. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys co-op ARPGs with depth and long-term progression.
Rune Knights is a first-time project by a single developer, one of the few third-person dungeon crawlers. When you think about it, I'm still amazed at what a single person can produce compared to a "AAAA" title. Sure, the game has its flaws when it comes to the graphics, but that's something you can get used to. On the other hand it has huge advantages: - a variety of builds (e.g. tank, summoner, spellblade, 2H, 1H, monk, mage, etc.) - an enormous number of skills - Legendaries - endless arena waves - endless invasion difficulty (random maps) - Raids (currently only 1) - online co-op with useful support builds (if you don't have friends you can replace them with NPCs, which you can skill, level and equip) - Transmog One of the most important points is that the developer interacts with the Discord community, accepts suggestions, asks for ideas for new content, explains different concepts and asks for your opinion. Bottom line: It's worth more than every penny even though it's EA, thanks Aeromir.
Very fun game & definitely worth the $14.99. Rather than having classes with innate abilities, your abilities come from armor and weapons, and you can choose to specialize in certain roles by spending talent points in any of the ten trees. The abilities on weapons/armor are random, so you aren't restricted to using something like a "Fireball Staff" if you want to throw fireballs. You might get a belt or ring that gives you a fireball ability, but if you want to change it, you can buy skills from a skill vendor in-game and then apply them to an item. The flexibility of the skills and talent trees also give you lots of room for creativity in customizing a play style you enjoy. The 10 trees which are currently available probably fall under the archetypes of warrior, rogue, archer, tank, golemancer, spellblade, mage, summoner, healer, and monk/martial artist. You get 30 points in all, and every 5 points you spend in a tree unlocks a selection of passives to improve your performance in that role, and every 10 points unlocks an ultimate ability. The customization comes in mixing and matching various trees together with the many item abilities to choose from. You could choose to spend all 30 points in the archer tree to really buff your ability to deal damage with a bow, or you could spend 10 in the archer tree, 10 in spellblade, and 10 in the mage tree to create something of a "mystic archer" that uses a combination of bow skills and spells that would normally require a staff/focus type weapon. The game also gets progressively more difficult as you go along, so even after you reach max level, you'll still have challenging content to play. You can also farm legendary items that may add new skills or change the way current skills work, like a pair of gloves with a "wildshot" modifier that causes every projectile skill to fire additional shots. I definitely recommend Rune Knights if you like games that are more focused on combat than story, enjoy a mixture of traditional RPG classes with the option of mixing/matching roles, and don't mind an action combat system that requires you to aim and react etc. If you prefer games with a strong story/narrative focus, open world games with large maps to explore, or you prefer games with more forgiving combat systems, this game probably isn't for you.
