I've had a certain itch while waiting for danganronpa 2x2. This fills this void perfectly right now. By far the most high quality danganronpa-like game on the market right now. It does feel too danganronpa though, but that's why I bought the game in the first place. 8/10. I see a lot of potential in this. I love the card battling mechanic.
If Capcom U.S.A. Inc. v. Data East Corp (the lawsuit) had gone in favor of Capcom, this game would not exist. They said it was "inspired" by Danganronpa. Bollocks. This is a note-for-note RIP OFF. Several characters are recognizably there, just with a few fundamental changes to keep Spike Chunsoft's lawyers at bay. There are clear analogues to Monokuma (I could swear they even got the same VA), the Ultimates, the Class Trial, and the executions. They have something that's Hangman's Gambit But Worse. They have the S-Link thing. A lot of the music is very similar in composition. The "make a comic" thing at the end of the trial is so identical to the ones in DR that they don't even give you instructions on how to do it. The fact that they put Kodaka in the Special Thanks SECOND after Rumiko Takahashi is quite frankly taking the p*ss, HAVING SAID ALL THAT, I enjoyed it. What it does differently is generally done better. They didn't have to set it in Japan or in the 1980s, because the developers are clearly from neither. It's painted-over Danganronpa, but the paint is mostly pretty.
After the sad downfall of Eden garden, i have to say this is honestly one of the best dangan inspired games i have played in a long time, the cast is so loveable they have really decent motives and personalities that makes you attached to them and it leaves you questioning who will die, the artstyle and music is very well done as well, the voice acting is something i was shocked by the sheer effort and love they put into their roles is very amazing and sold the immersion for me, i can't wait for the next episodes i highly recommend any danganronpa lovers to check this out its worth the 15 for just the first ep alone.
dang it grandpa
At first, I was not sure if I was fully onboard with Kumitantei. but after finishing the first chapter, I'd say I'm down to play it to the end. It's got my foot through the door, at least. To say Kumitantei is Danganronpa-inspired game is to be a comedian. This game is wearing DR's skin, using DR's social security number and trying to pass itself off as DR in front of DR's relatives. It's copying the DR formula down to an exact science. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, Kumitantei. I'm not complaining. I can never say no to a competently done Danganronpa-esque murder nocturne, so here I am. If I have to give some thoughts, it would be these: - The cast did not click for me at first. They are ESPECIALLY abrasive for a DR-esque cast. In DR and other DR-inspired games, the cast can at least talk to each other normally and introduce themselves on first contact; the Kumitantei cast can do no such thing. It's like they were designed to be as unlikable as possible. The problem isn't even that they don't have any chemistry with one another; the problem is that half of them are just unpleasant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to be around. I don't intrinsically hate this setup, however. ANY cast can work if the writers know how to use them. It's an interesting cast, to say the least, and starting them at their lowest point allows them to grow and develop relationships in an organic manner throughout the story. Another thing that made them not click with me was the artstyle. They're supposed to be inspired by Takahashi Rumiko's artstyle from the 80s, with some looking like they came straight out of Urusei Yatsura. Unfortunately, this is not the artstyle I would choose for a horror thriller murder mystery game. The Dangan style (thick lines, big eyes, concentric circle pupils, expressive faces, vibrant colors) is so ingrained into my perception of what these games should look like that I needed some time to adjust. Fortunately, they both grew on me - the artstyle and the characters. By the end of chapter 1, I'm still not completely sold on them, but I can see spending another 20 to 30 hours with them, at least. I'm excited to see how they're handled in the rest of the chapters. - The setting for now is a bit basic and on the nose. It's literally just DR1 (and V3). Don't fix what's not broken, I guess, but I would have liked something with a bit more flair. It's not a dealbreaker, at least, since the important thing is how they'll utilize this tried and true setting in the remainder of the story, and I'm excited to see that. - I was not expecting the music to be THIS good. It was the highlight of the whole experience. It's less psycho-pop like DR, and more gritty, noisy and horrorcore? I like it a lot. It sets the tone of this game apart from any DR game. - Case 1 was interesting. Though the overall experience was good, something was off with the pacing: it's only half the length of an average Danganronpa case. As a result, the last leg of the trial really raced towards the finish line, and I can't help but feel like we skipped quite a few steps in between to clinch the solution. It was still enjoyable, though.
I think this game is great, and it's definitely scratching my itch while we lead up to 2x2. I enjoyed the cast (despite how one-dimensional some of them are) and while I was NOT at all a fan of (Ch1 Killer Spoiler)
Moichiro, his ending speech still had an impact on me since I mostly took it in the eyes of Himari
. That being said, the game at the end of the trial where you had to endlessly combo took me way too long to beat and I hated the space invaders game because I couldn't go back to look at my evidence, so if I didn't immediately know what conspiracy theorist said I'd have to game over to go look at the evidence after restarting. I like it
ON EVERYONE SOUL WE ARE CRACKING MOICHIRO.
Одна из лучших фанронп на данный момент. Анимационные вставки между диалогами, приятный интерфейс и оч крутой ост, да и сюжетка хороша
First of all: I liked this game, or rather, this first chapter, and therefore I recommend it. However, I feel I should give a complete review, covering both the pros and the cons. Let me start with a disclaimer: I bought the game based purely on trust. The only thing I knew beforehand was the card system, and I had assumed it would be a game inspired by Danganronpa but with different mechanics. If that's what you're expecting, that's not what you'll get. The game is heavily inspired by the black and-white bear: the trial minigame Word of War is literally Danganronpa's Non-Stop Debate, with the same mechanics and no differences. Likewise, the final manga-style sequence where you reconstruct the events is almost identical in both art style and gameplay. These are the two strongest examples of the similarities, but even the Free Time sections are essentially the same. At the same time, the game does try to be something different. For example, Danganronpa's Hangman's Gambit appears here in a different form, where you control a spaceship and shoot the correct letters, essentially an arcade shooter. Personally, I don't enjoy this minigame very much, but then again, I never liked Hangman's Gambit either. On the other hand, the final execution sequence distinguishes itself from Danganronpa, and I appreciated it a lot. It also lasts quite a while, I didn't time it, but I'd estimate between two and three minutes. Most importantly, the game's most unique feature is its card-based combat system (the part I already knew about before buying it). It's an addition with a lot of potential, but it still feels somewhat underdeveloped. The pacing of combat doesn't really sync well with the cards available in your deck, and the player is forced either to memorize or constantly look down at the icon indicating each card's weakness before playing a card. I absolutely love the concept, it's genuinely unique, so I hope it gets improved in future episodes. I also hope to see more original minigames, because at the moment I see the game more as a tribute to Danganronpa with a few deviations here and there, rather than something that truly stands apart. Now, let's talk about the voice acting. Every voice fits its character perfectly, and the voice actors did an excellent job. However, I often noticed that the pacing, the speed at which the characters speak, is extremely slow sometimes. At times it feels more like a stage play than a video game. I could give many examples, but the most obvious one to me is Sanada during his internal monologues (the green dialogues), especially before the trial when all the character sprites appear on screen. Kaguya's voice actress was my favorite, and she's probably the only character whose slow pacing feels completely justified. I also really liked Moichi, Hoshisaki, and Kutsuki. But as I said, I enjoyed everyone's performance, great job, everyone! The story is interesting, although I do have some criticisms regarding the trial itself. The culprit's behavior didn't make much sense to me, or rather, it felt unnecessarily risky.
Why would Moichi hide in the closet, risking being discovered? It's important to remember that up until that moment, nobody knew there was going to be an announcement, not even Moichi. As a prosecutor, he would have been even more likely to choose a safer hiding place. He certainly wouldn't have hidden just three meters from the corpse, alerting the others to go into the very room where he was hiding.
Furthermore, the final minigame where you reconstruct the events in manga form doesn't make sense in certain parts, because Sanada somehow knows details that are only revealed later after the trial. The trials don't reach the heights of Danganronpa's best cases, but overall I still enjoyed them. What really intrigued me, however, is the "outside" storyline, the one shown when Sanada falls asleep. The ending left me very curious to see where things are headed. Overall, this first chapter was a lot of fun, and I think it has a great deal of potential. Its biggest challenge going forward will be finding a way to distinguish itself more clearly from the work that inspired it.
