This was one of the first modern "Survivors-like" I ever played. Maybe I have nostalgic glasses because of that but I don't think so - even in hindsight I really enjoyed my time with Run Build Pew! It's got balance issues, sure. Maybe some are even significant as within a few hours you'll gravitate toward same-y (or meme) builds. But I enjoyed my time constructing each of those ships and seeing them reach their inevitable end. It's worth noting that your "one of three" upgrades you pick require placement on your craft - and you expand your craft by building with those modules. It's pretty basic but there's definitely side, range, etc. limitations to consider. And what's there works well and is really well implemented with the other systems. Some have critiqued the limited duration of the game's appeal. You're (probably) not going to get a bajillion hours out of this, but what you will get is a few, maybe 12+ hours of solid fun. Though it looks like some new modes and such were added since last I played, so probably longer! Plus Steam Deck approved! And it's three danm dollars. It is *absolutely* worth three danm dollars. And know this was the first game from the newly minted Knight Owl Games - a studio made by friends over 7 years of effort who apparently only build super well constructed charming games. Three danm dollars to be part of that is pretty rad. TL;DR - talking about this game makes me want to boot it up again and that's what I'm gonna do. Spend the three danm dollars.
