I wasn't expecting to enjoy this at all, let alone be crying at the end because I got up in my feels. It was a gift from a friend, because I love ducks. Apart from that, there's nothing that would make me even pause to look at it in the store, just not my general vibe in any way visually. I begrudgingly fired it up, and surprisingly, very quickly loved everything about it, its so freaking good, and the maps are super pretty! It's such a chill vibe, even down to the sourcing of materials and crafting. The dialogue with the geodes is fab, lots of side quests, fun mini games. I hope they give us a DLC! Nothing stands out about the game in particular, everything just gels so well together, to deliver ultimate dopamine from cosy exploration, which in turn made it a stand out game for me. I wasn't quite prepared for feeling emotional at the ending, but there I was blubbing like a fool. Please add the Floor is Lava to the soundtrack DLC, that tune slaps! Quack quaaaackk.
Duck Side of the Moon is a family friendly casual adventure and exploration game, based around a duck called Doug who is searching for a new Home World. Whilst falling asleep at the controls, Doug manages to crash the spaceship on a strange planet inhabited by cute, disco dancing addicted, talking rocks. Doug works with the aliens to fix his ship and along the way gets to know them and helps solve some of their problems too. It's a very relaxing experience with watered down exploration, mining, and crafting, and plenty of quests and amusing interactions with the cute rock population. If you've played games like Lil Gator Game, Smushi Come Home, or Squirreled Away then expect similar game play with item collections used for crafting better gear; exploration on land and sky; completing quests for the locals; light puzzling; and adorning your space ship with new items. All these elements felt a little basic from what you might expect in a title like this, with only two distinct places you can visit, although there are a handful of areas within where you meet different colourful characters and different biomes; very simple upgrading and crafting; a collection of outfits and apparels to wear; some furniture for practical and aesthetic use ; and the ship repairs to attend to also. Even though these elements are slightly watered down there's still a good seven hours of content and I enjoyed all of my time with Duck Side of the Moon. It is definitely very charming with some very cute rock-like people who all have their own personalities and problems. Some will just make a cheeky comment as you pass them whilst others you will get to know quite well and have to solve problems for them by performing simple fetch quests in the main, although towards the end of the game the tasks do get harder. The game does a good job at creating a community feel with everyone having specific roles and tasks to perform and often they'll have a quirkiness or adorable nature. Doug can either fly or waddle on the ground but mostly you'll be flying because the planet is adorned like an archipelago with various islands scattered around. There is a train which connects two areas together which you must take to reach the other place but it is easy to traverse the islands because the area is not that large. Doug has various gadgets which can be acquired through the crafting machine and some of these can be upgraded. Crafting requires items which Doug can collect with his mining gun but certain resources will need an upgrade to mine and certain places might be inaccessible until certain equipment is acquired. Some of these items are more useful than others, for example, the mining upgrade is crucial but the scanner, which is meant to locate gold and onyx, was a huge disappointment and unusable. Other items to earn are improved boosting, a magnetic grappler, a torch, an explosive charge, and better storage. I found exploration to be mostly enjoyable with the duck proving easy to control in the air and on the ground with simple controls, although sometimes I did get lost periodically trying to find certain areas because there is no quest finder apart from a big exclamation mark appearing over the character's head when you approach them. This can lead to a little aimless wandering around but it wasn't too annoying. Storage was also an issue with your backpack filling up quickly and preventing any more items being collected. There is a storage system in the ship to craft and use but it was a constant battle with resources. There is a story running through the game play which was quite touching. Doug has a close relationship with his onboard computer called Chip, who he has various dialogues with and there are a few scenes where we get to learn about Doug's past but there's nothing extensive here narrative wise but welcomed nonetheless. The main narrative is the interaction with the townsfolk and learning and solving their problems and getting to know them better.
Final Thoughts

Duck Side of the Moon is a very enjoyable casual adventure with colourful characters you will find amusing and adorable. There's a great community feel and some nice fetch quests and light puzzling which will enhance your relationship with them. It's a very feel good game. Due to its basic nature I think it would suit children perfectly but it is still enjoyable for adults as long as you are not looking for anything too deep when it comes to exploration and crafting. I had an absolute blast in space with Doug the Duck! A charming adventure packed with fun resource gathering, rewarding secrets to sniff out, and fantastic fashion choices to customize your cosmic fowl. Doing quests for the adorable rocky space folk was a major highlight, and the story wrapped everything together with a surprisingly heartwarming core. + The music is great too! 𓅰 𓅬 𓅭 𓅮 𓅯
Played Duckside of the Moon tonight and somehow turned space survival into pure cozy-cute chill. Between the scavenging, the unexpected panic moments, and the squad slowly becoming a flock of highly questionable astronauts, the stream was ridiculously fun from start to finish. Chat leaned fully into the chaos, the jokes kept escalating, and every tiny victory felt weirdly triumphant. The game has those moments of “this is adorable” and “whoa! that duck looks so cool! ” which makes for such a good stream experience. Definitely one of those nights where the vibe carried everything into the star-filled purple sky.
Considering this is a beginning small studio, congrats. This is a great start and I would hope to see more from you. Above all, I think it's a fun game. Some things I would have like to be in the game, I would like a tooltip menu on the side, and maby some ambiant sound for if you want to turn of the music. I understand sound is the hardest to crack when you just starting out.
BANGER of a game! Very cute and very fun to play! I loved the storyline and loved all of the little quirks each geode had. Boogiedale was my favorite with all of the little music-related jokes and minigames. I 100% the game and am glad I did. Very easy achievement list as well. Side note: SO glad the added the update to go back and forth between planets after the game ends because I had to start all the way over for ONE final achievements when I played near launch.
Relaxing and fun. Just the right amount of challenge and exploration to keep you engaged. I played through the main quest in maybe 4 hours and that includes as many side quests as I could find. Cute stylized world with some groovie music and fun puzzles. :) Runs great on Linux too. Overall very polished game, hoping for a DLC with some more content.
