Difficulty : 3/5 (Rather Hard) Global : 3/5 (Very Good) Curator page : Anokturnus Platonic is a 3D puzzle game in which you explore 5 areas and solve their puzzles. This is not really an open world, you might think it's a witness-like game but it's not; there are not that many puzzles, the main ones are pretty big in scale and at least half of the game is linear. Most of the puzzles involve the manipulation and alteration of the environment, the areas are like mazes and you need to figure out how to progress. So you need to be methodical in order not to struggle too much or get lost. Thorough observation and memorization of your environment are also key in order not to miss any important detail. This maze-like aspect can repel people but I found it to be very well done and not frustrating at all. You also gather hints that you have to screenshot in order to help you solve the other, more classic, logic puzzles. These puzzles can have a hint in an area and the solution in another. The way the areas are interconnected is nicely done, sometimes you will observe a detail that reminds you of an area, go there and find another solution at a previous puzzle. It's hard to rate the difficulty of that game. I personnally didn't get stuck at all but some puzzles still required full focus, some were quite obscure and easily missable... so I would say the game is rather hard, especially near the end. Overall, Platonic is a solid puzzle game and a very pleasant experience. Recommended, as long as you don't mind a bit of confusion.

This is a game for people with a very particular taste in puzzle games, and it aligned extremely well with my tastes. If you like MIT mystery hunt or have done 100 escape rooms and find most of them too easy, this might be the game for you. You definitely need pen and paper or a huge MS paint canvas full of screenshots. I would also recommend to block out a whole afternoon so you can finish it in one session, because you have to remember where things are and what they do over a vast world. It has the best "move the panel and the world moves along with it" puzzles that I've ever seen in a game (much better than skyward sword or obduction did). It will test your logical problem solving and your working memory a lot. You will have to notice things, test hypotheses, and discover how systems work through experimentation. But it's very rewarding and everything makes sense once you fully understand it. None of the puzzles felt excessively tenuous, although some of them would have been easier if I had noticed a certain detail sooner. The designer cares a lot about those details and it absolutely shows. One of the best I've played in a long time. High recommendation if you like hard puzzles.
Score: 90% Platonic is a fascinating experience. On first launch, it feels quite janky, and even though the graphics are rather basic it doesn't run terribly well. Initially, the puzzles seem simplistic and feel like they don't go anywhere. I even wondered if I wasted my money and if I considered refunding it. Am I happy that I decided to give it another chance! As you start to progress, you realize how the varying rooms are connected and that there is a central logic at play here. The puzzles become increasingly interesting and challenging and by the end you feel like a scientist trying to solve a massive maths problem. As I was reaching the ending, I was convinced I would give this a perfect score, but sadly I lucked out on "guessing" the final part of the final puzzle, which made the ending a bit underwhelming for me. I looked up some info online, and realized that I was 95 percent there, but I would have loved to have struggled around for an hour more and solved it by myself. It might not seem fair to criticize the game for this stroke of bad luck (or good luck), but I feel there should have been a better guard against guessing. I wasn't necessarily brute forcing the solution either, I was just toying around with the inputs to try and understand the underlying mechanic better. Still, this is a unique experience and a great example of a puzzle game in which every part is a cog in a greater machine! Especially for such a small developer, this is a grandiose achievement!
Pinnacle of environmental puzzle design
Difficulty: ★★★★★ (5/5) Taking screeshots and whipping out the pen & paper is highly recommended! Wow, what a game. I was not expecting it to be this difficult, especially towards the end. There were some serious headscratchers, but it was satisfying to finally beat. There is no story, just pure, refined environmental puzzles in a mind-bending open world. This is a true hidden gem you should not miss if you enjoyed the environmental aspect of games like The Witness.
This game scratches the same itch as the Witness. Platonic is about logical and pattern-based puzzles in a beautiful three dimensional environment. There are then some meta puzzles which require making mental connections between the game's separate areas. The coolest aspect for me was how the game teaches a sort of abstract mini-language which you need to master to solve the puzzles. The difficulty curve is quite good; the early game is pretty tame, while the hardest puzzles left me sweating. This is rough around the edges visually, but this does not get in the way of the puzzles.
end segments just werent fun
I thought this was a really excellent puzzle game, especially from a solo developer. Starts out easily enough, but soon turns up the difficulty. By the end I found it to be VERY challenging, I would have loved some hints but I wanted the satisfaction of beating the game with no outside info. I ended up doing just that and can say that it was immensely satisfying to put all the pieces together with out any hints or help. I'm not entirely sure the intended solution for a few of the puzzles, but it seems like there are multiple ways of solving things, each being challenging in their own way. I did get hard stuck a few times and felt a bit frustrated that I had NO idea what to do. But it seemed like there was always some loose thread to pull at. I would close the game for the night and come back the next day with fresh eyes and make more meaningful progress. Very highly recommend to anyone who likes games like Myst, Quern, the Witness, or obduction. Bring a pen and paper and get ready to take LOTS of screenshots.
Bought at 90% sale and spent a nice day solving this set of rather random puzzles. I say random because most of the puzzles have nothing to do with each other. You know how in The Witness you're introduced to a concept, then there's a whole area exploring various nuances of how that concept can be used in puzzles, then you also encounter it as part of other puzzles elsewhere combined with other concepts? There's almost none of that here. Most of the concepts are used once or twice. There are only a couple that are consistent through the whole game. And the game itself is quite short too, I've beeten it in a single day. So it's an alright little puzzle game for a day or a couple of evenings, but nothing special. P.S. Also something about FOV or rendering projection or something in this game makes it somewhat nauseating to look at. I personally was fine, just had this werid feeling like I wasn't quite in Euclidean space even as I was smply walking around in the game. But another person watching me play felt sick very quickly.
