There is only you and the Forest. In "Rooten" there are no compulsory tasks, time just goes by, and days pass by independently of you. You can explore the Forest, try to get out, or even do nothing at all. The forest has always been here, and always will be. You won't change it no matter what.

Доволі прохідна гра
Overall an interesting experience, worth a shot. Its strongest points are its setting and atmosphere, as well as the art style. Beginning with the latter, I felt that the art worked really well here despite - or maybe thanks to - its simplicity. As if a very skilled kid drew distorted images for quite a morbid story. I mean it as a compliment, as the style has a distinctive and deliberate direction, which is well executed and properly implemented in its 3D surroundings. Good job. Regarding the setting, I saw many comments referencing Darkwood and I definitely agree. Not even close to being as scary, not by a very long shot, but it did feel pleasantly unsettling at times. Sadly, a lot of this tension comes from some poor level design choices. When you traverse some parts of the forest, especially area to the east-south, you can spend way too much time walking from one path-blocker to another, trying to find any crossable spot and getting stopped by invisible walls and tiny hills that look - and at some points are - passable, but in other places are not, despite looking flat. And because this area is far from your house, the nightfall approaches quickly and it gets stupidly dark. You can spend minutes stumbling around blind, unable to make any progress or find your way back, before your character finally decides to use a flashlight - which helps almost nothing. either way. Might as well just make friends with monsters while waiting for morning. Because yes, when the game progresses, you have multiple threats constantly haunting the forest and a huge spawn of them in that area. And because you walk awfully slowly and can't make more than a few steps in the dark before getting stuck on something invisible, you might as well start enjoying their presence. At least the little mole guys were super cute. They were a good company while trying to bite my legs off. Good mole boys. This confusing design - getting lost in the dark forest - would be great for building tension if only it stemmed from thoughtful level design, with clear presentation of which obstacles are crossable and which aren't. If I'm trying to make my way through at this slow pace, getting blocked by invisible wall at one spot, crossing through a similar location just a bit further, but then again getting stuck on a very similar thing a few steps later, it's not a matter of the game playing tricks on me, but rather the game being unpolished in its design. What could get deliciously nerve wracking becomes a stressful chore instead. Besides super slow walking and unclear level design, the other problem I had was awkward translation to English, which made it more difficult to immerse myself with the game. Still, it did manage to pull it off in the end, despite all these cons. Other than that, I see potential in this game. Good job and congrats on making it with so few people involved. It was quite a unique experience and I applaud the effort. Good luck with future titles as well!
I think I already have a fungal infection
Es un juego sobre raíces y hongos..... hongos alucinógenos que estoy seguro que el creador se comió mientras escribía la historia, no hay otra explicación. Al principio no entendía nada de la historia, al final tampoco.
I bought this game during the Lovecraftian Days sale 2023, for two reasons: 1. For under 0,39€, you cant do much wrong. 2. All reviews mentioned that this game is kinda like darkwood. Im a big Darkwood fan, and I have to say, the reviews are right, at least in regards to story and themes. You are a guy that gets
I'm a little mixed in regards to this game. I was confused a lot of the time, the gameplay was slow and tedious and it was hard to get into the story, but the ambience is great, the design of the world is unsettling and you get that uneasy feeling that you'd expect from a horror game. All in all- I'd say it's best to try yourself and come to your own conclusion.
It's odd, strange, bizarre, perhaps too slow in some points, still a great experience. Great discovery, I can assure you It will move something inside you.
Awesome game if you want a short sweet horror fix. The art style really adds to the creepy atmosphere. Simple but effective
