Sometimes a little game comes along in a genre I don’t normally play but then completely takes me by surprise. RogueSlide is a great example of this. You block slide around a small 6x6 map and basically bump into enemies to cause them damage. But beware, the ones behind you will then bump into you and you might find yourself in a sticky situation. Magic scrolls can help you clear out areas and health potion will keep you alive until you find the exit. To which I would advise booking it to as fast as you can.
THE PROS

+ filthy casual. ‘Roguelike’ is a genre I am finding myself enjoying more of in recent days (looking at you Vampire Survivors). I am by no stretch of the imagination any good at them but I really like the fact they are easy to put down after 20 minutes. RogueSlide feels very casual but at the same time there is potential here for challenges that will appeal to the more hardcore nuts of the genre.

+ addictive. I honestly went in thinking I’d play for about 30 minutes and ended up staying almost 2 hours on my first runs.

+ room for improvement. There are a lot of things this game could potentially do to keep it fresh and punters coming back. There are Daily Challenges, an Endless Arena and 5 characters to unlock at the moment. It is possible new enemies, zones and modes could get introduced later.

THE CONS (or in this case, nitpicking)

- no cards or cheevos….yet. I know that certain elements of the Steam community will be all over this if the devs add these things. Not really a con, just a personal preference.

THE CONCLUSION
I was quite happy to get my hands on a reviewer copy of this game before launch. It might have slipped by me otherwise because a game like this is a little out of my wheelhouse. But it just goes to show that some good game design can carry a genre to new players and might also scratch an itch of the more hardened rogue-like fans too.

Crim's Humble Opinion Curator
A well crafted Roguelike/Puzzle mash-up
I enjoy this game despite not being a fan of part of the inspiration title 2048. There is a lot less math involved, which I can thoroughly get behind. I'm a big fan of these "coffee break" type games. They take only a tiny amount of your time, are easy to pick up for a short run, and have entertaining mechanics that feel endlessly playable. This game seems to fall under that category. The mechanics are pretty simple. You slide your character in a direction on a 6x6 grid. Whatever direction the player moves, will slide their token until it collides with something, be that the edge of the grid, an enemy, a rock, or an item. Your main goal is to survive until you can escape. At first, it seems easy to do so, but enemies can quickly surround you dropped in, and you will have to think out your moves accordingly. My favorite aspect is the surprising amount of depth in this game. Enemies will attack each other, you can use rocks as placeholders to stop attacks, fire spells will wipe out plant enemies quickly, and some different strategies to master if you hope to tackle the game's current three dungeons. Aside from the adventure mode, there are five characters to unlock, a daily dungeon run, and an endless play.

(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ pros ♥
+Simple to learn, hard to master +Surprising layer of depth
The developer has done an excellent job on their first release. It's fun, easy to learn, and has an exciting layer of mechanics to dissect. As with any indie game, I hope for achievements and other accessibility features such as cards or backgrounds, but it doesn't hurt the game and not having them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CDNYeTfSK8 𝕀𝕗 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝔼𝕟𝕛𝕠𝕪 𝕋𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕋𝕣𝕪 https://store.steampowered.com/app/98800/Dungeons_of_Dredmor/
RogueSlide is a fun sokoban-ish roguelike dungeon crawler. While casual players will enjoy this, it gets hard fast and is definitely geared towards puzzle game enthusiasts. Not enough info for you? Here's my first play review video: https://youtu.be/yP2C_p4low4 Disclaimer: Steam key was provided in return for an honest review.
rogueslide combines 2048-like sliding gameplay with a dungeon crawler. it's not that innovative, but I really enjoyed twinfold and bone marrow, so I was curious about this as well. there's an optional tutorial, but it's all very simple: use the arrow keys (no alternatives or rebinds) to slide around until you hit something, kill enemies, repeat until a trapdoor appears (there's a turn counter), break it open, then do the same on the next floor 'til death. bumping into an adjacent enemy works, no need for momentum, and since it's a 2048 clone, most things move along with you, so it's possible to hurt a whole bunch of nasties with a single move, and of course they can hurt you too. there are 9 floors to clear, the scenery changes after every third and there's probably a congrats screen at the end, but even though I killed the boss once, I died this close to the last exit. oh well... decent variety of enemies with all sorts of abilities (spiders lay webs, skeletons can reanimate, slimes can absorb each other in true 2048 style, etc.). killing stuff grants xp, leveling up automatically increases stats (health, attack, defense, crit chance) for the current run. meta progression unlocks more characters with xp collected cumulatively. there are also scrolls to pick up, sometimes from breakable chests, but you can only carry one at a time because paper is famously heavy. shift previews their effect, space or click to cast (unless you're playing as an athlete, who can't read). checking what each tile is, restarting and menu navigation can only be done with the mouse, which is pretty bad in a game that should be completely controllable with the keyboard. and failing a tooltip hotkey, it'd be nice to have a help screen, codex or something to bring up anytime, though you'll remember what's what eventually, as it's not a complicated affair. no undo is never good news, of course, but in this case it wasn't a dealbreaker. besides the default game mode there's a daily run and an endless arena to unlock, they contribute to meta progression too. the former became available for me after completing the tutorial, the latter when I reached the volcano area (floor 7, basically). not much difference from regular gameplay, in fact, I have no idea how dailies differ, except you can only try them once a day with every character. the arena has its own color theme and every enemy can appear anytime, that's it. the presentation is average at best, not that something like this has to wow in the audiovisual department. separate volume settings and window scaling are all the options, with 100%, 150%, 200% and full screen as choices. unfortunately, full screen renders alt+tab useless, the game is always on top, which is incredibly annoying. you can access settings anytime, but it's too finicky and alt+enter doesn't work. it's pretty good overall, but with annoying issues it's only recommendable on sale, unless the devs put in a bit more work and smooth things out.
It's been a while since I've played a game that legitimately makes me think differently. I love all the deck builders, tower defense, auto battlers, platformers, rogue-likes, etc that come out in the indie scene, but this one just feels fresh and new. It's not like there haven't been sliding puzzles in the past, but combining it with chess-like tactics is just one of those things where you wonder, "Why didn't I think to design a game like this?" I really appreciate games that go with a simple premise but just execute on it so elegantly that it doesn't feel simple at all. Insert all the usual "easy to learn, difficult to master" cliches here, but it's true. Once you realize what's going on it just clicks and pulls you right in. Here's another cliche: "it keeps you wanting to play just one more time". Kudos to Retromation for featuring this on his channel. I give it 9/10
I got sucked in right away. Fun visuals and sound design. Easy and intuitive to get started. Very satisfying swipe attack movements. Really fun.
Ultra repetitive after ONE minute. Literally. One. Minute. This game should be free.
A very nice, well designed and aesthetic little game. Fun gameplay. I wish it had more content. However. I have to post a negative review because I thought i was buying a rouge-like, but it isn't one in any way shape or form. Edit: fine, fine.
