hocus 2 is very similar to the first game, but offers enough changes to deserve to be called a proper sequel. unfortunately, the changes are not all good and what's similar should've been changed, so the result is pretty disappointing. the game consists of 85 escherian levels. much like the first game, all about the perspective, but instead of rolling a block around, it plays more like a sliding game. nothing wrong with that, I like both, except the stretchy-slimy thing often doesn't stretch far enough. while it'll automatically move again until it reaches the next junction or stopping point, no need to click again, I found it pretty annoying, as it often stopped just a block or two too soon. instead of reaching the exit, this time all the dots have to be collected to finish a level. nothing wrong with this on paper either, except some balls will do their best to move away from you with every turn, while others start moving in real-time after the first move. the former is frustrating enough, but who thought adding a real-time element to a game like this was a good idea? other new things include sections that can be moved, rotated, expanded, or used as a zip-line, and ones that automatically rotate once stepped on. another type disappears after moving over it once, but unlike other pieces, these all have to be removed along with the dots for completion, and can cause a fail state on the current level. another not so fun block type near the end turns hollow when you move over it, but have to be turned back to blue block by block to complete the level. basically, most of the new mechanics are more annoying than fun, especially when free-running blue balls wreak havoc on those changeable blue blocks, so I decided not to bother with the last few levels, as one was blocking the final section on the mostly branching map, which is the only change I'm completely on board with. it lets you tackle more than a single level most of the time, though the game doesn't offer much of a challenge besides the timing thing. as for things that didn't change but should have, there's still only a single audio on/off toggle, no volume settings, no level numbers anywhere (even more important with a branching map), and no windowed mode (alt+enter makes a non-resizable window). as much as I was looking forward to the game, it proved to be a huge disappointment, and the fact that the developer was unwilling to improve the technical aspects 5+ years after the first game means they're not worth supporting.

It's just like hocus but with a lot of new features and puzzles. I love it so far! Edit: I finished the game and it was marvellous! But there is a bug at the most far right level. Sometimes the black moving cube goes out of the puzzle, hits an invisible wall and comes back on the puzzle.
This game made me lose contact with my central nervous system.
Unlike its predecessor, hocus 2 goes for a handful of gimmicky features, making it feel more like a generic maze game than an exploration of intriguing M.C. Escher-esque shapes.
Interesting puzzle game which uses Escher pictures
