About
Jump a rift, fight off monsters, and plunder their world. Rift Riff is a tower defense game noteworthy in two ways: it's particularly strategic and remarkably forgiving.
At the heart of the strategic layer of Rift Riff is a mix of choosing what towers you bring into each rift and being clever about the various monster behaviors. Monsters attack in waves, either going straight for your Extractor (your main tower) or attacking every tower in proximity. To defend yourself, you choose a handful of towers at the start of a scenario and build them on predetermined spots on the map. You obtain juice (your build resource) during monster waves and have the ability to build and upgrade towers before and during each wave. Surviving the onslaught of monsters gives you prisms, which in turn unlocks more rifts, towers, companions, and tower upgrades.
Don’t have enough juice to build your tower? Schedule it. Built the wrong tower? Get a full refund. Lost a tower? It’ll respawn for free after the wave. Lost your Extractor? Only redo the last wave. Having a hard time? Pick flowers for a bit of extra juice.
The full game currently features ± 15–20 hours of gameplay:
20 worlds with 2 or more scenarios each.
17 tower types with 7 overpowered upgrades.
25 monster types with varying behaviors.
6 companions who'll assist you and your towers.
45 challenges for die hards.
All the good Steam stuff: achievements, stats, controller support, cloud saves, etc.

sweet game, but the input lag on the current linux build is insane
Simple but challenging enough to be fun. Good amount of variety and content for the price. Hope the devs keep working on the game, it's awesome!
The art is simply lovely. The sound design is incredibly thoughtful. The controls are really intuitive.

Very fun and cute tower defense game. It's more of a puzzle game than a classical tower defense, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! I like how polished it feels and plays, and the challenge levels are true to its name, would definitely recommend for leisure!
This is a very cute and well-designed tower defense game! It's hard to do something terribly revolutionary with the genre, but the developers definitely did a great job with understanding how to shift objectives to make a map interesting. The sound design is great! I love hearing the little voice of the character humming along. The end-game content needs a little work - it seems there is a lot of unspent currency at the end, which is admittedly not really a problem as far as completing all the other objectives.
I just finished the last challenge and I thought this was a very good game. Highly recommended. Just a few gripes - I wasn't a fan of having to restart the entire scenario just to change one tower late in the game. Perhaps you can allow people to choose towers as they go to a limit of 5 instead of having to choose all 5 towers at the beginning, this way I still retain the flexibilty of experimenting with differnent towers in the late waves. Also, maybe you can allow people to rewind to a particular wave instead of just restarting the previous one. But on the whole the game is very good.
Baffling gameplay. The teaser in the intro of "You'll figure it out" comes across as hostile to casual gamers, not playful. Controls seem like a weird mix of 2D top-down shooter and point-and-click mystery, yet the game is fundamentally a tower-defense game???
A love letter to game design.
Perfect!
A simplistic tower defense game with a minimalist style. Very challenging and very entertaining. It is, as the other reviews would say, very forgiving but it does allow you to quickly change out your load out or redo the wave and tweak your layout and see if that does the trick. There is no speed up button BUT you don't really need it due to its forgiving mechanics and nature of the waves and map itself. Either you succeed or you don't. Game wise, there are a variety of enemy types and towers (some are better than others or are direct upgrades by nature ie. the pylon being better than the obelisk and etc). While most of the content is simple, you really have to think about your load out, Most of the time, simple and straightforward works best but with the challenges and the other variables in play, slotting in a certain tower and building around that is the obvious way to go. The music doesn't tire you out and blends seamlessly with the simple nature of the game, which draws obvious inspirations from other games like Thronefall and Monument Valley (both great games, highly recommend). Achievement wise, you can easily get them by going through the game and the moment you get them all is the moment you actually finish the game. While it is sad there is no more content as of this time (like a daily challenge or endless), it is a comfort to know there is an actual end to the game and you can move on with the peace of mind that you've done everything and anything the game has to offer. A fantastic game worth the money you are gonna spend, pretty cheap already but if you can get it on sale or in a bundle, then that is just smart spending. I look forward to whatever else the devs and publishers put out, whether it be another game or an update. It is also works on the steamdeck (even the LCD one). Enjoy! XD
