About
--GAME OVERVIEW--
Rhythm Storm is a roguelike bullet heaven/horde survivor with heavy rhythmic elements. Your vehicle automatically aims and fires (player-controlled twin-stick firing is possible at any time) while you control movement and a special power. You select a vehicle, set it's initial configuration and powers, then proceed into the action. Nearly everything in the world (except you) moves to the beat, and your goal is to survive to the end of each song. There are 3 main worlds, a boss, and a bonus world, each with its own unique song and mix of enemies.
--VECTOR GRAPHICS, NO TEXTURES--
Rhythm Storm uses untextured lines and polygons in rendering the game world and UI (along with a few fullscreen effects). The game visuals are crisp and clear, and the more resolution you give it the better it looks. For the best experience, it is recommended that you play the game on a 1440p (or higher) monitor with a refresh rate of 120hz or higher. [Playing the game at 1080p/60hz is still enjoyable, just less than ideal.]
--RHYTHMIC GAMEPLAY--
Rhythm Storm is a musical experience, but it's not a traditional rhythm game. Nothing your vehicle does is synced to the music, but much of the world IS synced. Wave changes happen every 8 bars of music, powerups and the world pulse to the beat, the UI is jamming to the beat, and many of the enemies move to the beat. Enemy spawning is also synced. Though the game is heavily synced to the music, no musical talent or beat-synced button pressing is required to succeed at the game.
--REFINED BULLET HEAVEN FORMULA--
At its core, Rhythm Storm is similar to other Bullet Heaven/Swarm Survivor/Horde Survivor games in structure. At the start of the game, you configure your vehicle's default upgrades, which includes the starting weapon(s). You also select which 4 categories of upgrade types you want to see (these are called Upgrade Sets).
During gameplay, you destroy enemies and collect XP as usual. When you collect enough XP to upgrade, you'll choose between 2 sets of upgrades. Each set has 3 upgrades, two of which are from the upgrade set category, while the third upgrade is more random. It's simpler and more intuitive than it sounds, and keeps the pace of play going while still allowing for a variety of builds and dynamic choices. More choices are also available once you unlock the re-roll modifier (semi-permament meta-progression upgrades).

Geometry Wars + Survivor-like = Rhythm Storm.
Very quickly did I fell in love with this game. A well-executed hybrid of Geometry Wars and Vampire Survivors is always welcome in my library. The dev also cared for the optimisation and it works pretty well on my PC with Geforce GTX 1080 - a smooth gameplay with so much particles and other effects while having very high settings on. And I thought I would never see a worthy competitor for Geometry Wars or Waves 1/2 in terms of vector graphics eye candy! The gameplay also stands out nicely. As per survivor genre tradition, you have a wide variety of upgrades during the run. However if you insist, you can customize the vehicle to make it operate like a traditional twin-stick, instead of automated bullet heaven. I definitelly recommend it. Its full price is totally worth it.

Great replayability, and perfectly balanced! I normally lose interest after unlocking everything, but this has the right same-but-different details to keep installed. The balance is great too; so much is within the player's control (loadout, vehicle choice, RNG re-rolls) that there's no "right" way to win, and losses are usually on me.
The game is pretty fun, the music is good and the way it syncs with the action from time to time is cool, and the visuals are really great despite looking relatively simple on the surface. The game itself isn't very long/deep. You can beat it fairly easily and it pretty quickly turns into "how many different ways can I beat this," so if you like that sort of thing, this might be for you. The rogue-like elements were kinda confusing. I found it difficult to decipher the different weapon trees in order to plan builds, examine my past build, or unlock some of the special weapon combos, but it mostly didn't matter considering the game isn't very difficult. Overall, I would recommend the game, especially at the price point. I took a chance on it during the steam sale and don't regret it. I know this developer has made a few other games so hopefully in the future there's a bigger better one.
This game is very polished. There's a lot of little games in this genre. This one has remarkably good graphics, overwhelming hypnagogic like our fever dreams of 1980s arcades but on modern hardware. The gameplay is nicely varied and there's a motivating progression system. It has a lot to offer.
Incredibly fun and it looks incredible on my OLED Ultrawide.
Sometimes you just want a game that sears your screen and shakes your bones while you let your hands play on autopilot, occasionally "ooh"-ing at upgrade choices. The upgrades come quickly, the particles fly, it is never long until your screen is rocking and trembling at the sheer amount of neon STUFF happening at any one time.
Okay first of all, hell yes! Radian Games! I remember buying everything this guy ever did on the xbox xnaa whatever the hell framework. He was top tier. And my god, this game runs like a dream and it gets crazy insane. Folks, this is how you do this genre good and proper. Yes, the music that is included was retrofitted in a barely passable way, but the twin stick action is EPIC! Congrats RadianGames! This engine eats through eye bleeds like a boss.
Really fun game for what it is. Great visuals, music, and overall vibe. Even the menus are exciting! Just wish that there was more to it. While there's a ton of ships and upgrades, there's only a handful of levels and enemy types. Once you've played through those once, the novelty starts to wear off and it becomes just a repetitive loop of grind for points, use points to unlock more stuff, use new stuff to grind more points, etc. The ships, weapons, and power abilities do add some good variety to the gameplay as they each require mastering a different fighting style, but the limited environments in which to use those things is a bummer. Overall for what I paid for it this is an easy recommend. I just can't escape the feeling that this is sort of a teaser for the game this COULD be if there were more levels, more enemy types, more boss battles, more music tracks, just.... more. I'd gladly pay $20+ for THAT game. I hope the devs continue building on this b/c there is so much potential here.
