The combat is trash and tends to really just boil down to just waiting for the enemy to attack before hitting a quick time event and attacking and just repeating that process. Most of the mechanics in this game are pointless and exist simply to be different but there’s a reason so many games use very similar mechanics.
This game is very fun at the beginning but as you move on past the demo version where you got locked out from, everything will start to change. The Liberation mode which allows you to straight charged up to the enemy upon executing the attack command is truly awesome! You usually only see this kind of combat style in Anime. To actually be the one using it, makes the experience even more Enjoyable. The costumes is very pretty too! The i-frame mechanics reminds me of PSO2. The gameplay to me i feel its like a combination of both PSO2 & Kingdom Hearts 2. Both of them are my favourite. After 20 hours into the game, I find it not worth the price anymore. There is no mode to select, it's hard already as it is. Troublesome quest and mechs.. The chapters is too long. The bosses hit pretty hard. After 32.3 hours, I finally managed to complete the game, I still find the game pretty hard, and not fun. I had radiant dlc to help me conquer most obtacles, if there weren't this dlc.. I probably would had died over 10 times in all the legacies boss match.
I can't understand how this game is being positively reviewed. The game isn't without positive qualities; the art direction, but by and large there is nothing here. The gameplay as of chapter 7 is extremely limited (subdued mode to build your attack bar, attack mode has one attack button and two magic spells, then a dodge button for both modes, and an "ult" that is just a big hit and drains your attack bar). The world is clearly designed for a handheld device as each "area" we load into it roughly the size of a shoe box, the npcs wandering around are bland and faceless, the traversal is non-existent, the world interactions (shops, time wasters) are also missing in action, but somehow this is a console game. Music is present. The story seems like it could be interesting as we play both sides of a conflict mirroring a sort of law vs justice argument, with criminals and magic monsters driving the plot, but the presentation of the story is just not good. We get drip fed tiny bite sized pieces of one side of the story every other chapter alternating back and forth in the sides of the conflict with supplemental story coming in paper thin side quests where we run between npcs, or run from one npc to a fight then back again. Worst of all is the asking price for this psp title, $60 usd to start or ~$90 usd for the ultimate version, which I cannot fathom how the talking heads at NIS thought this was a fair price. At best Reynatis is a $20 for the ultimate bundle game, do not make the same mistake as me and play for seven hours waiting for the world or gameplay to open up because then it will be too late and you'll be trapped owning this overpriced garbage.
I do recommend this game but it's not easy to do so. First things first - The pricing is horrific - I don't know who thought this should be priced like that but I think they're wrong and judging by the number of reviews, I would be willing to bet a lot of people agree. The game is fully complete now so just wait for an inevitable sale, please. I think the elephant in the room here is the graphics, they're not good - I can't sugarcoat it - it very much gives like, much older console vibes which if that's a dealbreaker you're not gonna like the game. That said I'm not a hater of the graphics and I think they're serviceable, if nothing else they do give the game it's own vibe. But this game was clearly made on a budget and it shows - there's a lack of variety in mob types, OSTs and NPC designs to name a few. Not the end of the world but again, clearly made on a budget and expectations should be tempered as such. Though to their credit they have a really solid cast of VA's working on this!! Which is great and I loved a lot. All that said I think the overworld is still quite pretty and cool how it's made to match the locations from real life. The combat is simple (Fill gauge, transform, spend gauge on spells, can swap characters) but I think the counter/parry system is cool (Although for some it might detract from the experience since you'll end up just waiting for them to attack, parry, then one shot them) but I do think they nail the excitement of 'unleashing' your power and attacking, very anime-esque! And each characters ultimate attack is cool! The OST is solid and fitting - Not jarring or out of place and the tracks work well, I just wish there was more of them and maybe a bit more experimentation (The TWEWY collab mission has banger tracks btw, I assume from TWEWY - they go HARD) The story and overall lore ... is tough to sell. I think their decision to do story additions as updates which are then optional extra chapters is a mistake - How you perceive the ending before and after doing these 'optional' chapters is different. Anyway the story was decent and at least decently intriguing!! Speaking of lore though there's a lot of additional content in the form of 'reports' which can be found in the overworld and inside of dungeons - there's two problems with this. First of all you may not even be aware these exist because of how you are meant to find them, which is the second problem. To find these reports you have to be 'liberated' to see them - this is a problem because walking around liberated essentially puts a bounty on you so you have limited time. Post game this isn't a problem but honestly I don't think a lot of people are going to go scouring for them after finishing the game and it doesn't feel very natural... I dunno, the game has a lot of flaws but I still liked the characters and the combat and everything in spite of those flaws, I think if anything from the game jumps out at you give the demo a try and if you're intrigued - get it!! On sale though.
This is a very interesting action game and despite the small budget that the creators had, you can see that they put their whole heart into this game because it is definitely visible. The game has practically no technical problems, but the graphics may scare many of you away, and the graphics are not the strong point of this game, but the characters and its plot. Referring to the plot and characters, it must be said that both of these aspects of the game are really well done. The plot may not be sophisticated, but it is good and keeps the player's attention, and this is the most important thing. The combat system is also well done, and what is important, it is very fast and dynamic, and the game itself is not difficult, I myself only had a problem with one opponent and it was not the final one, but its predecessor. The only thing that I can actually have some reservations about is the price of this game because it is definitely too high for an „AA” game, but this is my subjective opinion. In any case, I highly recommend this title because it is worth playing. The game time is also quite good because the game is neither too short nor too long.
If you're that curious, stop being lazy and play the demo.
Keeping this one relatively short. If you played the demo and enjoyed it, you will likely enjoy the rest of the game. That being said... I had a lot of fun with this. Reynatis is a solid game. The beginning did a good job of setting the tone and drawing me into the setting, as well as introducing characters. I got some Robocop vibes from this game's Shibuya, being riddled with drug users and a police force struggling to keep things under control. I also enjoyed some of the mystery behind the story and determining what's going on in Shibuya. It mostly comes together pretty nicely. Switching between character perspectives wasn't jarring at all. Between the OST(someone make this available for purchase), characters, premise, and the interesting combat system, I can't say there's much I disliked. The main area where the game falls short is the execution of the story. I think there are some moments that could have been more impactful with improved scene direction. Despite that, voice acting is rock solid across the board, so delivery on that end was well-done. One might argue that the story takes some time to pick up, and it's not dramatic enough for some, but it wasn't a problem for me. The only other thing I could note was that the game leans on being easy. Lategame this isn't a big deal, since bosses are seriously out to kill you regardless of how you feel about random enemies, and you get some challenge levels for fun, but early to mid-game it might seem too easy to get through battles. If they implemented a similar system to Crymachina, where you choose when to level up, this could probably balance things out a bit more. I'm not really sure how else to better balance the game without changing fundamentally how attack/defense in combat works or seriously overhauling enemy behavior. It gets crazy when several enemies are attacking you at the same time, and I wouldn't know how to change that without, well, making the game into another game. Oh, and you get TONS of healing items. I used a total of 3 throughout the whole game. They didn't really feel necessary, so long as you knew how to stay alive. Good:

OST is excellent
The combat is fun to play, gives each character something different to play with, incentivizing you to try different characters, and the balance of switching between attack and defense works out well.
The game looks good enough for me. Shibuya looks good, and the character design is attractive and overall likeable.
The story plays out an interesting premise that isn't too over the top or typical.
Side quests aren't too tedious, and reducing malice is pretty rewarding over time.
Reasonable game length: Not too long, not too short. EDIT: For reference, my clear save shows about 28 hours of game time. Not as long as Tales, but not much shorter than the average Star Ocean. It'll be shorter if you don't do many side quests.
The stat parameters are clearer in this game than Crymachina. Furyu learned, lol
This game runs very well. I ran it at 120FPS at 4K with no trouble.
The "Bad," Note that I like most of what this game has to offer. I'm not that critical of it.

There are 2 main dungeons, and they do not change to any drastic extent. One might find their design boring.
One might prefer that dialogue plays out directly instead of so much taking place over the phone; I found this made for better pacing, and the conversations were still charming, so YMMV. There's only a select few cutscenes.
One might not think the graphics are good enough. If you're looking for high resolution textures across the board, you probably won't find it here.
The combat is not for everyone; do not come into this expecting it to be identical to another action/action RPG game you've played.
The story might not appeal to you as it did me. Some want more drama. As noted, some scenes could have had better direction.
There is a reveal later in the game that I feel could have been better explained. Note: I didn't collect all the reports yet.
Ease of combat might reduce the game to button mashing or cheesing power attacks; YMMV
I would have liked more time with the antagonist/s. A side story or something would be a nice addition.
Please give Nika's navel better textures, Furyu
I'm not going to complain about price or production value due to A) this game being standard retail price, and B) Coming from what is essentially a AA developer. I'm just not that petty. Overall, this game's a hit for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can I recommend it? Sure, but I suggest you at least play the demo first, so you have some idea of what to expect. If I had to rate it, I'd give a 7-7.5 out of 10. Would play again. Will play the epilogue chapters later.
Meh, definitely not worth the price
This game has a wonky battle system but very unique plot and good cast. If you get over the pricetag its a good purchase.
If you enjoyed The World Ends With You and really wished Final Fantasy Versus XIII was real as well as craving that Kingdom Hearts flair and style, this game maybe for you. The story is quite intriguing and the gameplay is alright, though a bit rough, I think you'd enjoy this game. Personally I think it's better to grab this when it's on sale, but that is a decision for you to make.
Story's good. Combat is basic, but I like YS which is also basic, so it's fine for me. Only issue is parry can be a little weird to learn. But otherwise it's fun, definitely feel the love for Square enix games like Twewy. Graphics look like ps2 era but cutscenes are good.
