epitome of classic PC RPGs
It played perfectly and only crashed once due to an error after a few hours of gameplay. It doesn't like to be minimized.. it's like 50/50 you won't have to reload after minimize but other than that it played perfectly! It's an old game, and it took me a moment to remember how to save, meticulous attention to detail and exhaustion of dialogue must be pursued in order to complete quests. You'll think the game is broken or hasn't loaded correctly and it turns out you didn't interact with a shelf, or exhaust dialogue with certain characters, so pay attention to everything they say!
Great game. I played it back then in 2000 and was addicted to it.
Fun retro RPG game!

I've always enjoyed Return to Krondor and although not quite as good as Betrayal at Krondor I still highly recommend it. A must for any Sierra fan as well as anyone who likes games from the era when they were in their best.
The game that evokes childhood memories - even the initial loading screen gives me goosebumps. So much of this game works well. Combat is exciting and varied. Characters are engaging and endearing, with (mostly) developed and distinct personalities. Graphics are aged but pleasant. You are taken on a journey from the streets of Krondor to haunted villages to ancient temples, with an entertaining story pulling you along. The main downside is the lack of flexibility. If you come to this game after playing Betrayal at Krondor, this will be the primary disappointment. 'Ah,' you might say. 'An alchemy system initially greyed out but indicated to be usable once you leave Krondor must show that I will be venturing into Midkemia to explore.' This will happen, but briefly, and without flexibility. You'll be guided through a series of maps, some with combat encounters and other interesting things, but it will all end rather hurriedly. There's no exploring huge forests and scurrying behind mountains to find lost chests. Most critically, there are no side quests to find here, ore really anywhere. I recall one in the first chapter with a dagger and a witch, but have never found any others. Betrayal at Krondor was densely packed with adventures and items only discoverable through the main side quests that peppered the game. Not so Return to Krondor. That said, highly recommended, but with these caveats.
