the nostalgia is what makes this game interesting. Not a fan of the grappling system. A grapple automatically being initialized as soon as you get remotely close to someone makes the game not enjoyable for me. I think a grapple should be manually initialized with a button or button combination. If you grew up in the golden era of wrestling and the beginning of the attitude era, this is worth a play through. If not, this is a game you can probably skip.
This game, SUCKS! I REALLY hoped this game would be good, but the AWFUL grappling system means it's almost impossible to beat Blue Meanie in the second story match. He just grapples you, with no way to escape, and builds his momentum 5 times faster than you. So not only can you not do anything, but you need to do 5 things to counter his 1, and it is just pointless. So I tried a no-grapple match, just strike him and try to negate it. NOPE! You can maybe get one punch combo in, and the odd running attack, but then he just ignores your next combo (because you can't hit unless you stand at the EXACT right distance from him, on the EXACT same level) and grapples you which basically means the match is over. The game looks beautiful. The roster is AWESOME! I was REALLY looking forward to playing as Nick Aldis. But the gameplay sucks so bad, that I could't play for even half an hour.
A great game! Just the right amount of nostalgia and simplistic enjoyment!
LOVE THIS GAME, the DLC just added alot more fun for this, was really looking forward to Demolition vs Road Warriors and it didn't let me down. This takes Wrestlefest to another level with all the different arenas and different play modes. The gameplay is addictive. Hope to get more DLC please!
WWF Wrestlefest is probably the most fun, pick up and play wrestling video game ever created. You put a quarter in, start pressing buttons, and you start doing things that make sense. RetroMania Wrestling obviously takes a lot of inspiration from that game, but the core game engine isn't the fun, intuitive, pick up and play system of Wrestlefest. It's based off the timing driven Fire Pro Wrestling engine. Which I hate. I never know what the game wants me to do. Mercilessly, this game has an option to turn on indicators that tell you exactly why you are losing every single grapple, and that helps, but it also exposes what I had been suspecting after struggling with games like this for a long time which is a large number of lock ups are just randomly awarded to your opponent regardless of how good your timing was. I hate that. It makes a confusing, obtuse system even more confusing and obtuse. This never ends up being the fun and experimental experience I want it to be. I never have the time or space to think ahead and try to uncover new techniques because I am always straining to survive the next 5 seconds. This one just isn't for me.
The game is unfinished mess. No controls ui in main meniu for keyboard? Guess which button to press, no luck. Without controller unplayable, without navigation no control over meniu. Art style is bad. What is up with bubble heads??? Icons are ok BUT NOT IN THE GAME!!!! Refund is better option as this game offers no modding.
Went into it with low expectations, came out of it with more STD's than Johnny wrestling a ring rat after a show at a bar in southern Illinois. 5 Stars, minus the STD's.
Happy that this game is still being updated! Played more on the switch, but good for a few minutes of fun :)
If you loved WWF Wrestlefest then you’ll love this.
I have this game on everything. This is likely to be my favorite wrestling game ever. It was made with passion and love and features some of the coolest combinations of wrestlers ever. It has a few bumps here and there, but the small dev team is committed to polishing it. Love this game!
