The Shuffler/Randomizer Mode plays with a board game like progression. It picks a few randomly chosen games and each game plays for 3 rounds with the 3rd round playing at a faster speed. The main goal of Shuffler Mode is to get as high of a cumulative score as possible between the chosen games. The games are all designed to work well within this mode by keeping the controls and game mechanics simple, yet still be engaging and fun.
Retro Endurance 8bit features many games based on favorite classic 8bit games. Games based on popular genres such as platformers, puzzles, brawler, racing, RPG, and much much more! No two games play alike and they are all designed to be fun as possible.
Currently, there are 52 games in Shuffler Mode and 20 full arcade games in Arcade Mode with more being added as the game is updated. New games are first added to Shuffler mode, then eventually added to Arcade Mode as full multi-stage arcade games.

Solo developed game. Designed, coded, drawn, and composed by zsKnight of ZSNES.
Random generation algorithms in nearly all games so they will feel different each time you play them.
More games will be added and included free in future updates.
Many secrets and easter eggs to be discovered!

The game is quite fun on its current state, though I hope it will be even better for full release. With local multiplayer and more than 40 micro games to enjoy, at the current price, it's a steal.
This game is fun and very well made. The original games are fun and have a lot of reply value. I can tell the passion for retro games that went into this and the added bonus of multiple ways to play the game, from the arcade mode to local multiplayer, are just great. The dialog is great and kept be coming back to see what would be said next. Add all of this with a rouge-like feel with random bonus challenges and so many games to mix and match, this game is absolutely worth the price of admission. I am looking forward to seeing what else is added to the game. Maybe some spoof style retro gaming magazines where you can find hidden secrets in games and cheat code.
Really enjoyed it. It's pretty special to be able to make a game that can be enjoyed 10-seconds at a time, and this package has dozens of those.
I only bought this to support the guy who created ZSNES, but when I gave it a test play I ended up having way more fun than I thought I would. If you liked UFO 50 you might like this, although if you thought the UFO 50 games were too hard you might like this MORE because it starts off pretty soft and gentle, and then gradually ramps up as you progress through the game's concept (you start off with a small selection of games, and every 10 seconds they swap to the next game and the next, until you finish a small run, and if you get a good enough score it levels you up and throws a new game into the mix on your next run). The dev here definitely has a good grasp of what makes these games fun, and keeps them all simple enough that you can guess your way through each game's playstyle in just a few seconds. Some funny little gags throughout the game too, such as the first boss fight being you trying to save a cute kitty from being run over by a monster truck. Easily worth the price.
Is a fun game. A bit trippy on the eyes with some driving games perspective but the idea is great! I'm glad I found this one on steam (following a very simple story, you play a series of retro games inspired by the 80s arcade & nes classics as they switch on you, that's the tricky part as gameplay jump from one genre to another. as you get enough points to reach one of the top 3 scores you pass to the next level, unlocking each time a new mini-game that stack on the previous one, you have to get used to it but the "level" last enough time to not feel like a chore. I would say each of them is well coded as don't feel like are unbalanced or throwed in just for make numbers. They work as intended, some a bit harder than others but everything is playing with just 1 button and the directional arrows. The Bosses are the best part for me because you get to battle them with 3 out of the games you played to that point. Seems easy at the start but isn't. For what it gives I say well worth the price.
This game was developed by the creator of the ZSNES emulator. It's a love letter to NES games.
This is a fun collection of MORE THAN 50 games. If you think that UFO-50 was a good deal, this is even better. Plus the dev is behind one of the greatest emulators of all time, so he knows retro games! Plus, it's like FOUR DOLLARS. YOU BUY NOW! D: Seriously people, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS GAME! The library expands in a WarioWare style endurance fun of mini games.
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/indieretrogamers 48 mini games that switch up every 15 seconds or so. Interesting to see if this game gets out of early access, and if more mini games are added or more things to do in the arcade are added. Full controller support. More familiar than nostalgic. 7/10
Retro Endurance 8bit will appear familiar on first glance to fans of Nintendo’s classic WarioWare and Mossmouth’s recent UFO 50, but it nonetheless relies on its own formula to create a unique experience that’s both great for short bursts and as an outlet for a satisfying sense of progression that’s reminiscent of the retro era that zsKnight captures in their own game. The main draw, and where you’ll likely spend most of your time, is the Shuffler Story Mode. After a fun little intro where you, the player, have been grounded by Mechanical Order Machine, or M.O.M., for entering the “Forbidden Zone”, you’ll find yourself with no other choice but to tackle several dozen games over and over to compete for high scores, defeat bosses, and unlock new games and features. These games cover all the genres you would expect, including platformers, scrolling shooters, block-based puzzlers, racing, beat ‘em ups, and a whole lot more. The catch is that you’ll never spend very long on each game per session, which are all drawn from a gradually growing pool that you build up over time and are randomly selected for each run. Later on, you’ll acquire the ability to manipulate which games appear, if you prefer. Just a sidenote here: you’ll hear me use the word “run” more than once in this review, but this isn’t necessarily a run-based game with permanent death or any of the usual features you’d expect for that genre. That isn’t a slight against this game at all, it’s just to say that Retro Endurance 8bit is about the experience of sitting down with a handful of cartridges to kill an hour or two. And that’s something it does very well. If this also sounds to you like a deliberate invocation of the WarioWare core loop, you wouldn’t be far off the mark; controls here in Retro Endurance 8bit are similarly simplified with only the requirement of a trusty DPad and a single button for each game. Keyboard controls are supported, too, and while you can’t remap them there’s a wide range of choices for your movement and action buttons. But as I said before, Retro Endurance 8bit isn’t merely a reimagining of another game or series. Where it differs from something like WarioWare is that it’s a loop prioritizing progression in its games (now totaling 52 at the time of this review) over the rapid puzzle solving of microgames. An inspiration for sure, but a cool angle worth stressing. While randomness is a key feature for Shuffler Mode, there are a few things you can count on to persist. One is that you’ll always begin and end with a racing-type game and another is that you’ll always return to each game in a set order. This incentivizes developing a strategy around the progression meter, which tracks your overall progress for the run and handily flashes to warn you of an incoming shuffle. And so, you’ll find yourself encouraged, whenever possible, to leave yourself in an ideal position for the next go round. Finally, each run will conclude with your high score, which is then funneled into your overall progress toward leveling up. Each level is a mark of progression on the world map, with most representing new games, while a select few lead to a handful of boss fights. Retro Endurance 8bit’s boss fights boil down to challenging the player with a knowledge check of their mastery of the most recent games they’ve been shuffling through. To win, you’ll make use of each game’s mechanics and turn them against the boss while also avoiding a game over by preventing your health from running out. And if that’s all not enough for you, there’s also random events that add an extra layer of challenge, including wind gusts that push you around and inversed controls. As this is an early access game, it has grown in the months since it was released in January of this year. Not only has the total count of games grown to 52, covering just about every genre and homage you would hope for, but the developer has been gradually converting each game into an unlockable arcade machine, as well, with leaderboard tracking and multiple levels. Arcades are unlocked with coins earned by playing through the main Shuffler Mode, but a later update added an additional mode, called Arcade Only. With this, you can bypass shuffling games and enjoy each one as is. Located within the game’s main hub are various challenges, which have similarly been updated during the early access period. Currently, they include a daily challenge that rotates a selection of games from the entire pool, a speedrun challenge that tasks you to reach a target score as quickly as possible, and “Insane Mode” for those that crave the hardest variations possible. Overall, this is a game that entered early access with a clear vision, has so far executed on what it set out to do, and threw in some surprises along the way, including the addition of full games outside of the shuffler. As it is now during early access, Retro Endurance 8bit’s $3.99 price point makes it an extremely easy recommendation based on how much game there is here. But, summing it up like that would be a disservice to the game underneath. Simply put, this is a great pick-up-and-play experience that doesn’t seek to soak up all your time and rewards you for coming back as you please. Each game itself is a fun throwback or general nod of respect to the history of video games, while the whole thing is itself wrapped up in a neat modern concept that actually exists within the emulation scene. Get it and support more fun passion projects like this.
A really fun quick-paced retro experience. The best bit is that the games you blast through are also good.
