[h1] A TRUE KAFKAESQUE HORROR MASTERPIECE [/h1] Having played every single [b]Resident Evil[/b] title up to this point, I can say for sure: [b]Revelations 2[/b] is unlike anything I’ve experienced in the entire series. At first, I was confused. The beginning of the first chapter felt a bit off, and I wasn't sure where the story was going. It actually gave me some [b]Life is Strange[/b] vibes early on. But then it hit me - and it hit me hard. The shift from action-packed survival into a psychological, story-driven narrative was a massive step forward. Suddenly, everything went to hell. You find yourself trapped on a deadly island prison that channels the terrifying atmosphere of [b]Outlast[/b] and [b]Silent Hill[/b]. As the psychological horror deepened, the vibes shifted toward [b]Alan Wake[/b] and [b]The Evil Within[/b], and I absolutely loved it. This game brings up so many different emotions and atmospheres all at once. The character dynamics are incredible. The return of iconic faces alongside new characters works perfectly. The bond between Barry and Natalia gives off pure [b]The Last of Us[/b] vibes - that beautiful father-daughter relationship between two people who aren't even related. Barry was always a fan-favorite side character in the original games, but his development peaks here. What a man he has become! Seeing him adopt little Natalia after everything she went through as a test subject is beautiful. The bonus episodes elevate the narrative even further. Experiencing Moira’s separate chapter showed her incredible development and introduced us to Evgeny. Even though his tragic story of losing his wife and daughter to Wesker’s work wasn't fully focused on and only briefly mentioned, it was absolutely everything! Then, Natalia’s episode perfectly explained her backstory, while leaving a huge question mark on how things will go in the future. This is where the game truly descends into a brilliant, surreal, and Kafkaesque nightmare. It all ties back to the freaky Alex Wesker. Her obsession with Franz Kafka completely dominates the world-building and drives her actions. I didn’t know much about Kafka before this, but the game's references to [b]In the Penal Colony[/b] and [b]The Metamorphosis[/b] made me research his work, and I am definitely going to check them out! It fits so perfectly because Alex herself underwent two parallel metamorphoses - mutating into a physical, psychotic monster while simultaneously uploading her consciousness into Natalia’s mind. The ending was pretty questionable in the best way possible, leaving deep concerns for what comes next. As a whole, the game expands the Wesker lore and creates a totally unique experience. With its perfect vibe, deep story, and amazing character development, this has easily become one of my absolute favorite [b]Resident Evil[/b] titles!
