Nostalgia alone isn't enough
I bought this game way back in the early access days to support the developers because i really enjoyed Relic Hunter Zero, and was excited to be in the world with my favourite characters once again. But having 16 hours after so many years kind of proves that it wasn't enough to engage with me, despite trying a few more times this year. Being named Relic hunter, i was expecting to equip myself with tonnes of relics to power up my gameplay as i go through the world, but being close to 20 hours in game, i have not yet attained my first relic. The grind is real, and it seems so tedious that i don't know if i'll ever get it done before the game is unlisted, and it sure seems a high likelyhood due to the inactivity of developers and players. Almost all guides are from the early access days, and not much has changed in the few years since. Nothing to claw back players. other than cosmetics? it's odd. I wanted to like this game, and is one of the few games i bought on early access because of a belief that it could be done well by the developers. I'm sadly let down. The genre change from rougelite to looter shooter is a mind boggling one. they could have made it a lot more fun by enhacing what was there in Relic Hunter Zero. Dissapointment, not sure if i'll ever play again
Do you guys like Destiny, Borderlands and cartoons? Well, this game blends them all into a colorful time-travelling loot-gathering duck-slaying twin-stick shooting extravaganza. Story: The story follows "Seven", a silly little guy who finds himself thrust into a hopeless war against the mighty Ducan empire, which rules over the galaxy with its army of duckmen clones. Using his mysterious time-travelling powers, seven helps the local resistance (a goofy group of rebels called the Relic Hunters) while trying to recover his memories. Gameplay and progression: The game follows a level-based structure, in which there are various objective types such as payload, skirmish, capture points, defense, etc. Each level is about 5 to 10 min long, which makes the game highly playable in short bursts. The gunplay is fairly solid but simple, there are six characters from choose from, each with its own set of skills and builds, the game also encourages you to level them all up since level cap rises with your account level (rebel rank). The endgame follows a simple formula: "NUMBER GO UP", there are daily and weekly objectives which you must do to farm the mats for upgrading endgame gear, there are also factions to earn reputation with and a number of activities to choose from; treasure maps which are mini-sized dungeons for loot farming, special missions which are harder versions of story levels. There's also a mode which is specially tailored for multiplayer, which is a shame since as the time of writing there's little to no one playing (with a recent surge of players since the game was included in gamepass). Itemization: This game uses your classical aRPG itemization formula, items drop in a variety of rarities, tiers and with an specific number of stat affixes, all of which can be grinded for and modified, on top of that there's a gearscore system which governs difficulty, you can grind for that perfect roll or upgrade your gear to max, which is all fun and games, but sadly gun variety is not interesting enough. There are a ton of legendary weapons and gear, but I mostly used the first legendary gun I ever got and upgraded it from tier 1 to max and it overpowered most other drops I had by far. It's still fun to search for those synergies between gun/gear/character and theorycraft (since there's almost no info online). Final thoughts: I never expected much from this game but the gameplay is solid, the story is simple but effective (you can see plot twists from two miles away but when they hit they go hard) and the gameplay loop is addictive. The only gripe I have is that nobody plays it, I would have loved to find more people to do the final challenges since it's impossible to solo them, but well.. This game rocks, absolutely deserves more attention.
It's like Borderlands if it was a top-down shooter instead of an FPS. Very fun and definitely worth playing.
surprisingly competent and slept on twin stick shooter/ARPG. UI/UX and sound design is top tier.
垃圾游戏,不过在掌机可以玩玩
Play Time: 84.5 hours Achievements: 18 of 18 Date: Feb 13 2026 Rating: 7.2 out of 10 Relic Hunters Legend: The description tells you what it is, and in fact it is what it is. A top-down looter shooter that has a little bit of story. Yes it easily has 100+hours worth of play time, in fact it'll probably have more, or maybe have less depending on how the dev's continue with the game. The “grind” is real in this game, but there are mechanics to reduce that, but it's a looter shooter, so what do you expect there will be some grind. Over all a must buy for those who like the looter shooter genre with grinding. The game starts you off as playing 1 particular character then starts to introduce other characters as the story develops. Each playable character has a nice unique “passive” skill tree that will benefits their unique skills. There are currently 6 playable characters, each with 9 slots of equipment. And each piece of equipment may or maynot be wearable for a number of characters. Weapons have a variety of damage types that may or may not benefit you in each scenario. An idea situation is to have a primary weapon that does different damage than your secondary weapon. Example; one weapon may be good against shields, and the other may do better direct damage. A weapon may be capable of “freezing” an enemy, or setting them on fire. Continuing on with the game details; I mentioned that each character has unique skills and a unique skill tree. In addition there is a “stats/attributes” bar that you will be able to increase by increasing your “account level” and by leveling up your character. Take example my level 35 Jimmy has 136 Might, 140 Vigor, 96 agility, 82 spirit, this is with all my equipment. Currently you can only max each attribute to 80 with no equipment stats being included. Now to the grinding: I'm going to make an assumption here but I wouldn't be surprised if this game has over 600+ in game achievements/goals. In addition leveling up your equipment can be slow, especially Tier 4 items. But I don't think the grind is all that much considering this is a looter shooter after all. There are relics in the game that are “hidden” within the world map within each level.... I bet that majority of players maybe get 1-3 relics out of the 15+ relics. Relic hunting just wasn't my thing. Granted I did find my self looking all over for secret area's so please not that there is an element of “secret locations” if you like that kind of thing. Story: I really enjoyed the story, but I do believe there should be a few “modes” of this game. There should be a “looter shooter mode” that has the story in it, essentially the current game that we have. And then a story mode. The story mode would be far shorter, and require less grinding. Unlocking characters would be still an issue for some people but hey that's who most games are, you get unlockable characters when you encounter them in the story. But I do believe that adding a less grinding version of the game would allow for more people to enjoy the game. There is so much “character” to each character and the story is very enjoyable. But it's hidden behind a grind, which many people will not tolerate. I think the “mixed” review this game has has a lot to do with the development of this game and the grinding. You can go into the discussion board and view many individuals venting that this game isn't “free as promised”. You'll see people complaining about “bugs” which have been patched, essentially you can tell this game attracted some kind of community and then they got all pissed about how the game ended up. Which honestly it may change up. This game was also supported on kickstarter thus creating more controversy, being as I've backed a few kickstarter video games and all 3 didn't end up how I had envisioned I can understand the frustration. But when you review the kickstarter honestly they delivered a game extremely close to what they promised in fact I would argue it's the exact same game. As of this moment the game is still supported by the developer. I'm adding such a lengthy review because overall this game does not deserve a mix review, it's a very solid looter shooter, with super fun characters, an interesting story, surprising events, and just some fun things to it over all. The customization of character, the capability to play multiplayer (online only) not on the couch, the nice art, this game is something uniquely special and I would highly recommend it to any person who's a fan of top down games. I Didn't pay full price for this game in fact I think I payed ½ price or maybe 2/3 price I can't remember. PROS: Story Unique Characters Character customization Looting proximity is nice Responsive controls Difficulty Art Voice Acting when it happens Unique bosses Online co-op, across platforms. Neutral: Grinding Relic Hunting/finding secret locations within each map scenario Cons: Needs to be another MODE of play. The main mode is great for someone like me but if you are looking to enjoy some great characters and a fun story there's no mode for people who are looking for that. It's sad because I believe more people would enjoy the game if they could just play each story mission. Get rid of the exploration, get rid of the grinding, provide people with unique sets they can chose to equip, and reduce the world map.
Feels like playing a cartoon network game. It's perfect. Voice acting was a really nice and fun surprise! I really liked it! I'll definitely play more at some point, but I'm not dying to get every moment out of this game or anything.
It is a top-down class-based looter shooter, basically 2D Borderlands with bits of an ARPG chimeraed in. My understanding is, game REALLY suffered from a weak start. A lot of top reviews complain about the issues that are since solved. There are some pacing and balancing problems that would have been ironed out, if the game just held on water for a little longer. What it does well: - Upgrade / resource management is MMORPG-style, with some rather forgiving features. You get a lot of value from enhancing your weapon to +10 or whatever, and you can move the enhancement to a different weapon of the same tier pretty much for free. Got a low-tier weapon with a perfect crit damage roll? You can upgrade its tier and rarity. Got unwanted extra affixes from rarity? You can reroll them (although hunting for "perfect" stats in this way does get expensive quick, so drops matter, which is also a good thing) - Affix machinery is ARPG-style. Not too basic, but nothing really complicated either. Looks good to me - Better time travel plot bits than Last Epoch (because this game actually ties loose ends) - Second difficulty combat starts getting intense. It's less of a run and gun situation, you kinda need to make use of your character combos, damage scaling becomes valuable. - Checklist gaming, MMORPG style again. If you like it you like it, if you hate it you hate it. Implementation is good What it doesn't do well: - Well it does the "PEGI 7 cartoon" trope for style and writing. Most of the time, compared to Borderlands, the cringe is tolerable. - Early game is too easy for the most part. One day you are run and gunning, the next day you need to actually read and understand what your skills & passives do. It seems that some reviewers were farming Normal for 50 hours, no wonder they are unhappy.
Relic Hunters Legend
Jumped in ready to hunt relics and blast through space… stayed for a bit, then realized I was just grinding the same relics on repeat. Pros:

Core gameplay is actually fun—shooting, abilities, and chaos can feel great in short bursts
Colorful world and characters give it a nice, lighthearted vibe
Co-op has its moments when it clicks with the right squad
Cons:

Grind is heavy—feels like you’re farming the same missions over and over for small gains
Gameplay loop gets repetitive fast—relic hunt starts feeling more like relic chores
Playerbase feels limited and slowly dropping, which hurts matchmaking
UI has a mobile-style feel—not bad, but gives off that “not fully polished for PC” vibe
Lack of variety in missions and progression systems
Summary: At first, hunting relics and blasting enemies feels great—but after a while, it turns into an endless loop of doing the same thing with slightly better numbers. The fun is there, just buried under layers of repetition and grind. The relics might be legendary… but the gameplay loop starts feeling all too familiar.
