Good music, nice art style, silly story but unfortunately ruined by the fact that it's frustrating and not in a fun motivating way. Like I want to like the game and there are elements that I do enjoy (Again, good music, art style, story.) but i just can't get past the issues it has. The difficult curb is more of a wall than a curb that you have to run into repeatedly to try and climb with slowly dished out upgrades/tools. Also the controls and abilities are klutzy. I've had issues where the game can't make up it's mind if the air-dash and roll if it'll give invincibility frames or not. The attacks don't seem like they connect sometimes. Most of the fights past the first two in stone land are filled with extremely cheap deaths till you managed to grind out certain upgrades and even then I found myself not really caring to continue to keep playing. It's a great concept but a very flawed execution.
meh
Pretty good funny artwork and... that's it. 20mn in it and ok. you get the overall quality. Repetitive, not interesting fights. Slow controls responses. Feels heavy and clunky. No voices or any jingles sounds for an intergalactic TV show story line. Only poor moves and strikes sounds on top of an average music. High price for what it is if not on sales like today 90% off. If you hesitate then don't anymore and get something else. Even if it is on sales. I would not play it even if it was free. I don't ask for a refund for the only reasons I paid less than 2$ and the cartoonist deserve to get paid for his good work...
Redneck Ed: Astro Monsters Show is an action-packed beat ‘em up developed by Rustic Fantastic and published by 101XP. Blending arcade-style combat, platforming challenges, puzzle mechanics, and a wildly imaginative science-fiction setting, the game delivers an experience that feels unlike most modern brawlers. It embraces absurdity from the very beginning, throwing players into a colorful intergalactic spectacle where survival depends on fighting through dangerous arenas while unraveling a bizarre story filled with eccentric characters and unexpected twists. The game's premise is one of its most memorable qualities. Players step into the role of Ed, an ordinary mechanic whose life is turned upside down when aliens steal his face and force him into a deadly cosmic television show. What follows is a strange and often hilarious adventure through a universe obsessed with entertainment, competition, and spectacle. Ed's quest to recover what was taken from him serves as the foundation for a narrative that constantly shifts between comedy, satire, and action. The concept is undeniably unusual, but it helps establish a unique identity that remains consistent throughout the entire experience. The story unfolds through a series of increasingly bizarre encounters and locations. As Ed progresses through the show, he meets strange alien contestants, uncovers secrets hidden behind the entertainment industry, and learns more about the forces manipulating events from the shadows. While the narrative never abandons its humorous tone, it occasionally explores themes related to exploitation, fame, and manipulation. These elements add depth to the adventure without overshadowing the game's primary focus on action and entertainment. Combat is the centerpiece of the experience. Players engage in arena-based battles where waves of enemies attack from all directions. Success requires careful movement, effective use of attacks, and the ability to adapt to different enemy types. The combat system is easy to understand but offers enough challenge to remain engaging throughout the campaign. As new enemies are introduced, players must learn attack patterns and develop strategies rather than relying solely on aggressive button presses. This steady increase in complexity keeps encounters fresh and rewarding. The game's arena structure contributes significantly to its pacing. Each battle feels like a separate performance within the larger television competition. This format allows the developers to constantly introduce new mechanics, enemy combinations, and environmental hazards. Every arena has its own identity, preventing the action from becoming repetitive. The variety of challenges ensures that players remain engaged even during longer play sessions. Boss battles stand out as some of the strongest moments in the game. These encounters feature oversized personalities, creative designs, and unique mechanics that often require more than simple combat proficiency. Many bosses feel like interactive set pieces, combining spectacle with genuine challenge. Their exaggerated appearances and memorable behaviors fit perfectly within the game's over-the-top universe, making each confrontation feel like a major event. Beyond combat, the game introduces platforming sequences and environmental puzzles that provide variety between battles. These sections help prevent the experience from becoming one-dimensional by encouraging players to interact with the world in different ways. While platforming is not as refined as the combat system, it serves as a welcome change of pace and helps maintain a balanced rhythm throughout the campaign. The visual presentation is arguably the game's greatest achievement. Every character, environment, and animation is crafted in a hand-drawn style that bursts with personality. The alien designs are imaginative, the environments are packed with detail, and the animation quality consistently impresses. The world feels alive because nearly everything on screen has a distinctive appearance and expressive movement. This artistic commitment helps make even minor characters memorable and gives the game a strong visual identity. The soundtrack complements the action effectively. Fast-paced tracks accompany battles, helping maintain energy and excitement during intense encounters. The music works well alongside the colorful visuals, reinforcing the feeling that players are participating in a bizarre intergalactic spectacle. Sound effects are equally satisfying, providing strong feedback during combat and helping make every successful attack feel impactful. Humor is another defining aspect of the experience. The game constantly delivers strange jokes, absurd situations, and unexpected visual gags. It frequently pokes fun at entertainment culture, science-fiction conventions, and even itself. Not every joke will appeal to every player, but the writing consistently demonstrates confidence in its unique style. The result is a world that feels unpredictable and full of surprises. One of the game's strengths is its willingness to take creative risks. Many action games follow familiar formulas, but Redneck Ed embraces weirdness without hesitation. From its premise to its character designs, everything feels intentionally unconventional. This originality helps the game stand out in a crowded genre and makes it memorable long after completion. The experience is not entirely without flaws. Certain combat encounters can feel more difficult than expected, and some platforming sections occasionally disrupt the flow of the action. The controls may also require some adjustment before they feel completely natural. Additionally, while the presentation is consistently strong, the gameplay systems do not always reach the same level of polish as the visual design. These issues can create occasional frustration, though they rarely overshadow the overall experience. Ultimately, Redneck Ed: Astro Monsters Show succeeds because of its creativity and personality. It transforms a straightforward beat ‘em up formula into something much stranger and far more memorable. The combination of hand-drawn visuals, entertaining combat, unusual storytelling, and constant surprises creates a game that feels genuinely distinct from its peers. For players seeking an action game that prioritizes originality and style as much as combat, Redneck Ed: Astro Monsters Show is a worthwhile adventure. Its bizarre world, memorable characters, strong artistic direction, and energetic gameplay make it an entertaining journey from start to finish. While not every mechanic is perfect, the game's charm, ambition, and willingness to embrace the absurd help it leave a lasting impression. Rating: 5/10
Классный платформер, для людей с крепкими нервами.Все в старых традициях, но здесь нужно все подмечать и исследовать, чтобы получить удовольствие от прохождения.
It's fun at first but the game has a lot of small bugs that lower the impression from the game. Another thing are the arenas. Often I don't understand what I'm required to do to get the gold or even the silver medal. The movment of the character is strange making dodging almost impossible. The only thing holding the game from total imbalance is the air dash that makes the character invulnerable. I played a game named Grime recently. It's a little similar to Redneck Ed in regard of battle pacing, but has a parry mecanic. Maybe this could change the game and make it better?
