NOTE: As with all my reviews im not saying dont buy the game, im just giving my opinion of the game in its current state and how i feel about it after playing it as it is now. Cant recommend this game due to constant crashing. Also and this is not a reason not to buy the game but it is rediculously hard in some spots there are lots of things in the game that can one shot kill you at which the narrator constantly drones on when you die the same three or four phrasese over and over then a loading screen. Then you may have to play through a large area again with no checkpoint. After about the 900th time dieing this becomes a little maddening. There is at least three different areas that the game crashes constantly ive came across so far that need to be patched. Which is why i cant recommend the game at present. If this gets fixed even though its insanely hard id still recommend it because im sure some people enjoy that sort of challenge. Apparently as ive gotten older i am NOT one of them lol. The game itself is not that bad and the artstyle looks really great the game is actually fun but theres some frustrating portions in it. One is where if you die in this area where the ceiling is falling down on you, you have to watch a cutscene over each time until you get through the area. Theres also quite a few other areas that its like the game is not that hard but it becomes hard when youre having to play through a whole area again because theres not a checkpoint there. The story is pretty interesting, the controls are decent, still not exactly "spot on" but theyre tight enough that you can do most of the jumps with no problems. The main thing im talking about is when you go to jump in the air and trying to guide yourself back down to get coins etc it feels a little wonky. Hard to explain like theyre almost too tight if that makes sense. I feel like there should be a little bit more of a dead zone when in the air. I was playing this with a controller btw. Also theres skins in the game you pick up i had no idea how to even apply or what they were for, i found no information on this.
There's a bug in this game !! fix it please !! i cant play with Bug in this game!! after you defeated the new enemy..and then you move forward and then you go downstairs..and then you walk to the leftside andthen you became a rage golem..and after u punch the rock!! and i jump down!! and SURPRAISE MOTHER ♥♥♥♥♥♥!!! the cam not follow the player..but the player not dead!!!..so this is a nice bug!! then fix it!! please!! it's a cool game!! i recommended this game..but how we feel if there's a bug!! can u feel it?! so please fix this game..so we can play normal again!! FIX IT FASTLY!! thanks :)
When a 10€ game crashes at the start of a fight, that cant be good. 2/10 on this game
A very qualified recommendation. By itself, the game is not great, it's also not terrible. Within the context of it's creation, it's kind of interesting. By itself, the art style is enjoyable and the music and sound design works pretty well. The platforming is somewhat good and the combat sections are OK. The negatives include a handful of crashes (Windows 10) and a frustrating restart system (~12 seconds on an SSD) where you hear the same handful of quips from the narrator over and over. The game feels like it had grand ambitions, yet delivered something much more modest. The context for this: The game appears to have initially been partially developed by an animation studio with lots of ambition before going to Kickstarter to complete the game. A non-linear metroidvania with skill trees, three very different stances / forms, lots of interesting narratives, releasing on several consoles and PC, etc. The game only made ~$40,000 USD on Kickstarter. I would imagine at that point the studio had to regroup and decide what was doable within the meager budget. Where they landed is kind of interesting: what is the core of each element they need to make the game? - They reduced the scope of the three stances / forms. Originally, each would have a skill tree and different gameplay. In the shipped game, the main form is used for platforming and the fire and ice forms are used for combat. The fire and ice forms are identical apart from inflicting more damage on similarly colored enemies and blocks. In the Kickstarter pitch, one played out with stealth mechanics and the other with heavy combat. They were heavily involved in navigating the world. In the shipped game, these other forms are only used to break similarly colored blocks (gates) while outside combat. - They probably reduced the structure from an interconnected level design to what ends up being essentially linear sections. You do cross over the paths a few times, but rarely go back to an area with new abilities that transform the way you see the space. Instead, "I couldn't reach that ledge and now I can". - They reduced the narrative from "battling with your subconscious" to a "bad guy takes over the world, kill the monsters and you get the throne." There are hints of something more, but they never go anywhere. There is an unreliable narrator, whispers from unreliable ghosts, etc, but none of them really lead to surprises. - They reduced the number of enemies to a handful. They don't show up often enough for this to be a negative, but they aren't interesting enough to be a positive. - The bosses were reduced to two repeated mini bosses (golems) and one final boss with phases and attack patterns. The golems are not fun and they have difficult to read hit boxes. After many deaths, I learned to role back and forth and do upper cuts to chip away at them. It felt like I found a design flaw and exploited it rather than solved a combat puzzle. The final boss was OK, but a little finicky. - They likely reduced the platforming elements. These are done OK. You get a typical double jump and wall jump, but the most interesting part is a hover ability and a dash ability. The dash can be used as up / down / left / right and the hover holds you in place or lets you slide left or right. Those get combined and are fairly interesting. However, the later part of the game places lots of fairly challenging sections that require more than the controls can handle. It's a lot of retries with ~12 seconds (SSD) to wait between goes. I read another review that said they waited ~40 seconds between goes and I would have stopped at that point. In conclusion, there are a few clever moments and points that hint at something better than the game can achieve. It's impressive that the studio was able to take a small budget, distill game design elements into achievable cores and put something out the door. If you want something that plays great and does lots of new things successfully, this is not that game. If you enjoy metroidvania / platform games and like thinking about the game while you're playing it, give it a go.
This game just crashing, file verifying not helping. Creators don't fix the bugs.
Beautiful game. But it is all style with no substance, I think that's the saying at least. The combat is ♥♥♥♥. You punch. That's it. I guess you can uppercut if you want but it doesn't really change much so... The platforming is fine but no where near as crisp as a metroidvainia platformer usually is. It's just so slow and, quiet honestly, boring. The controls are bad on controller apparently. I can activate rage mode with the keyboard but not on the controller, even though the controller can cancel the rage mode (which i assume is the same way to equip it, but I wouldn't know since it doesn't tell me and the controls for controllers are not listed in the control settings). That's where I just stopped playing. Not worth all that ♥♥♥♥ after it being so slow. Lastly, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ narrator. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the narrator. His voice isn't bed but he feels like he was just reading off a piece of paper and they didn't tell him what emotion to have in his voice so he went with nothingness. Sure. You can't skip the voice stuff and you can't really advance without it compelting so every few feet you just kind of have to wait for him to shut up. NO ♥♥♥♥ I HAVE TO PUSH THE BIG RED BUTTON MAN. WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO DO?? Just. So unnecessary and it annoys you unlike in a game like Bastion where the dude kind of makes you giggle every now and then or explains something that isn't 100% overly obvious. All in all, I feel like this game got rushed and they wanted it to be for like little kids or something. I wouldn't recommend this even if it was on sale.
Unfortunately I can't recommend this game. Adventure games and platformers are my favorite type of game and I was expecting to really enjoy this. The games art style impressed me and I even like what I've seen of the story, however... I have a lot of complaints. First, the game gave me fatal errors 3 times within 67 minutes of playing. The first two happened in the same spot and I almost quit right there, but decided to see if I could get past it. Surprisingly I did and got a ways further, but after getting past a part where the controls were being particularly fidgety to me and it crashed again, I don't have a lot of motivation to continue. The next complaint I have to give is one I never would have expected to bother me SO MUCH, but this game NEVER STOPS TALKING AT YOU. I'm the kind of person who it takes a lot to annoy in my games. Like, Navi from Ocarina of Time rarely bothered me and I usually found her rather cute, even when she was being overbearing. This game thinks it's a book. To me the annoying thing wasn't even necessarily how much this slows down the game (although don't get me wrong, that's really annoying too) but how none of the added narration is needed. First, there's a character who pops up and literally stops the flow of gameplay to speaks to you. Their dialogue is short and I assume they are plot relavent so this actually doesn't bother me that much (although I could do without them popping in to point out that spikes are pointy), however the game ALSO has text narration (not sure if it's voiced, I played with the sound off) scrolling along the top of the screen which tells you literally everything that is going on to the point of redundancy. Divine did this and felt like this. That character just told her this. This thing looked dangerous. 80% of this narration is stuff like that. The other 20% is expostion about Divine and her planet, which, while interesting, would be so much MORE interesting if you could discover it yourself through gameplay, dialogue, and inner elements instead of just having a narrator tell it to you. It removes all of the mystery and intrigue of the world building and makes it a chore to explore what you've set up because I know the narrator is going to rehash everything. Seriously, just taking that out would make this game go from a 3 to 5. Fixing the glitches would bring it up to a 6. I don't know if I'll ever explore the rest of what this game has offer, but I feel sad about what it could have been.
GOOD GOD SHUT THE HELL UP ALREADY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
