After the new update (28.10.2023) this is now one of my favorite TDs. The update fixes the lag problem, adds a new tower and a lot of balance changes. Clear recommendation if you like TDs :)
Very fun little game. I highly recommend it if you're into TD. Big improvements in terms of late-game latency with the latest patch as well.
I wanted to like this game, I really did. When playing I originally thought that is was a cute, nice, pixel TD game, and it kind of is but being blunt it plays like a phone game. The upgrades are limited, the land cards are frustrating and there are inconsistencies and limitations with cards and their descriptions. At several points I assumed I was not using cards correctly, but even down to the Ork being capable of AOE damage, it really felt like a stronger goblin (a single shot, low damage unit) and I thought if I played and upgraded myskill tree that this would fix itself and gradually get easier as I figure out strategy along while I play. This was wrong. The land cards: I have only played to obtaining both swamp and mountain and they are so weak that the punishment for them is not worth it. I was praying every draw I'd get plains cards because mountain ranges were manipulating my strategy and swamps were also limiting my placement. These cards slow down other units and, yest they do, but I am not dealing the damage required to keep me alive more than I would having 5/6 towers on the same square. Waves: At a random point the game just increases its difficulty. This isn't gradual and it isn't a boss wave. It does this within the 30th to 40th wave. I then noticed that this is common through the whole game that randomly waves would pick up with incredible difficulty. I was ether prepared or not prepared but again this ultimately came down to the land tiles I could play, esspecially after figuring out that the towers attack the closest unit to the castle. If I could give words to the devs Id ask for, more towers, individual skill trees for the towers, enemies used to increase difficulty rather than quantity. I think this would be a good start. This is just shy of a positive review and all it needs is a tune up and some care for a year or 2 and I could see it being better. Other than this. Great job, I know making games is difficult and I still had fun at some point. EDIT: I managed to beat the game, not through skill, but RNG of obtaining markets and sacrafic locations and got my way to a dragon. EVEN with the dragon I can still see, though not really affected by, the random increase in difficulty.
Yeah, the whole "You have to beat a boss to get any progression" is just a bad idea. It's not even that it's unfair, overly hard, or anything like that, it's just slow and unfun to start. maybe the game gets better as you unlock more stuff but having that all be locked behind such a slow, unrewarding experience is not a good look.
Update. Played through again. Still unplayable at the later levels because of the tinkerer. Made it to wave 99 and avoided using bugbears. I really want to like this game and will probably give them one more patch before I give up. There is a lot of potential. Also realizing the money isnt really balanced for higher levels either. Great Potential, this game has so much potential, great art style, interesting tech tree with rogue like mechanics. But the unit the Tinker has broken the game and ruined the experience completely for me. It feels like this was done to make it more challenging, as there are no rewards and way too many spawns it simply makes it not fun to me and completely unplayable in the later levels. The first time I got past wave 60 was my last experience and I have waited a few days to post this in hopes of calming down. The unit which spans a perpetual wave minions at a pretty high rate slows the game down to unplayable levels in my experience. By wave 80 there were soo many I could no longer fast forward I gave up using the fireball spell at 86 after the center of my screen turned white using it and remained white for the rest of the game. As you don't get crowns when you quit the sweet sweet release of death finaly came at wave 96. The game was also operating as at really slow rate so getting from 86-95 took about 3 hours of leaving it on and adding a tile at the end of the level. If this unit could be turned on or off or somehow kept out of the core gameplay I would recomend this game to any Tower Defense rouge player in a heartbeat but as of now my experince was that it quickly becomes unplayable due to one unit.
+Some player choice +Aesthetics are pretty neat -Music doesn't work for me -Game felt too simple -Roguelite-mechanics made this one feel like a chore, my main issue = Disappointing. Neutral review though. I wouldn't recommend this for myself so I won't do it you either.
Nice game and all, but its not polished enough for a full release. The later stages feel like a slideshow and the endless mode is basically unplayable. there are better TD game out there for a lower price
This is really fun and addictive game.
