Rail Route seems like a promising game, but the tutorial is one of the most frustrating I've ever played. It's oddly slow where it doesn't matter (storytelling and pacing), yet incredibly impatient where it does matter; actually learning and understanding the mechanics. Every few seconds, the game bombards you with both an audio cue and a visual ping telling you to perform the next tutorial action. I could understand this if the player appeared to be stuck, but it starts after only a few seconds and repeats constantly. For example, about 10 minutes in, the tutorial introduces auto-signaling upgrades. It does a good job guiding you to the upgrade screen and showing you which upgrade to select. Once there, however, I wanted to read the upgrade description and understand what it actually did before installing it. Instead, the game repeatedly pinged and reminded me every few seconds to install it immediately, making it feel as though I wasn't allowed to stop and read. Later, when automatic routing is introduced, the tutorial has the opposite problem: it barely explains how the feature should actually be used. The same issue appears earlier when teaching contracts. The tutorial pre-selects the correct options for you, congratulates you for completing the task, and moves on as if you've learned something, even though you haven't really done anything yourself. The voice acting itself is good, and the narrator's delivery is solid. The problem isn't the presentation; it's how the tutorial is designed. It constantly rushes the player through actions while often failing to explain the reasoning behind them. The core game looks genuinely fun, and I can see the appeal of designing, upgrading, and automating a railway network. Unfortunately, the tutorial does the game no favors. At the moment, I'm genuinely split between pushing through it or refunding the game because the onboarding experience feels more frustrating than informative.
Not a bad thing necessarily, but don't expect that Rail Route is an indepth/realistic simulation of real world signal operations. It's a very basic train dispatcher program which does what it says on the tin. Basically route a train while using very basic pathing and signalling. Without purchasing extra DLC things are always perfect, there's no trains or equipment breaking down, no random events - everything is predictable. Other things of note - - You can only use 3 track types that have their own locked speeds (40, 80, 200km/hr) . You can't set your own track speed. - There's no advanced signal types or signal indications. Indications are only stop or go. - Bridges don't exist for track laying. You can only use tunnels. - There's no option to reverse trains without using departure sensors/automatic signals - Trains can't start spawned into a scenario that has already begin - Run numbers/Train names can't be changed when trains turn around/routed to new destinations. - The Contract editor to make your own maps/timetables turns into a nightmare when dealing with a lot of contracts. The menu and interface in general is just messy and unforgiving. Personally I feel the developers started well with a good working basic core product and for me I would have loved to have seen them go in a different direction to their current DLC direction with a DLC focusing more on the advanced realism - Introduce more advanced signalling, bridges, different types of track, custom speed limits, a more friendly editor etc. Good time waster anyhoo, 6/10
The idea is cool but the UI and tutorials are infuriatingly bad, to the point I asked for a refund before the 2h limit. The UI is full of confusing details, with too much information thrown at once, coupled with obscure icons. As a result I found myself constantly trying to separate what matters from what doesn't, trying to understand what was happening to the trains. Unfortunately the tutorial doesn't help, because - like many other people say - it does a horrible job to explain you how the game mechanics work. It's full of irrelevant storytelling mixed with unnecessarily pedantic instructions ("click here", "great job!"), leaving you to scratch your head on what and why something is happening on screen. I'm sure the game is richer than this, but I guess I'm too old to gloss over a bad onboarding experience - so it's a no for me. If you want to try it, just prepare for a steep learning curve and arm yourself with a lot of patience.

The idea is good, but the execution less than stellar. The tutorial is utter crap and switches between rushing through explaning the basic concepts and then takes forever to move on to the next step - I quickly decided to ditch this awful tutorial completely, because the descriptions in the tech tree are far more useful than any of the tutorial instructions. The next part that quickly becomes obvious, is the complete lack of basic construction elements like bridges and one-way track. Especially with the auto-signals, it becomes immediately obvious that they're not coded well enough to work as expected when you have parallel tracks that can't be constructed as one-way. And judging by the limited options available later in the tech tree, it's obvious these basic things don't become available later. As I'm used to literally every other train game ever made, it quickly became obvious that Rail Route is just far too limited to live up to its premise. It just doesn't feel like a finished game.
Hra nabízí tři hlavní módy a každý z nich testuje trochu jiné dovednosti:
1. Nekonečný mód
Na začátku nemáte nic. Postupně přidáváte koleje a vlaky, nikam nespěcháte – zkrátka taková pohodová nuda.
2. Jízdní řád (Timetable)
Snad můj nejoblíbenější mód. Máte hotové koleje, návěsti, celou síť a jasně daný řád – odkud, kam a v kolik hodin vlaky pojedou.
Běží vám čas, máte omezený počet kolejí i návěstí a pár vlaků, které musíte dostat z bodu A do bodu B. Provoz postupně houstne, vlaky přibývají a prostor neroste. Určitě si to najde své příznivce, a i když mezi ně nepatřím, herní režim je to stejně skvělý jako ty předchozí.
🎨 Minimalismus, který žije zvukem
Vizuální stránka sází na čistý, minimalistický design. Nečekejte žádné komplexní textury – je to prostě pár čárek, které dohromady dávají funkční umělecké dílo, jež dokonale imituje skutečné dispečerské obrazovky. Krásně s tím hrají i zvuky. Žádné přehnané efekty, jen uspokojivé cvakání výhybek a upozornění. Zvuková kulisa navíc reaguje na fázi hry. Když je provoz klidný, hudba a zvuky vás udržují v relaxačním módu. Jakmile ale nastane chaos, vlaky čekají a nabírají zpoždění, zvuková upozornění začnou gradovat a přesně vám nadávkují tu správnou porci dispečerského stresu.
This game makes my autism go brrrrr
I though this game would be easy going, chilling, etc. to play and yet it seems quite the opposite. I would like to see three major overhauls made: Tutorial: the first parts like (like 30min or so) is good and straightforward. And then it just relaxes and becomes "well you go figure out genius" type of tutorial. The track laying out become difficult to understand where to ideally place with limited areas that you have to work with. And what stations to unlock. Contract: Let me start with this, why are "fulfilled" contracted show in the active contracts tab? If they are FULFILLED, then they are DONE, CLOSED, OUT, etc., right?? But yet, its seems the training jut keep coming in the fulfilled contracts. I don't understand the logic here, please help, someone to understand this!!?? And this bring me to the final one: Time Table: Look, it seems that I NEED to change arrival times and quite a bit to number of contracts, but how in the world would I figure out what times to change them to. I'm going to need a whiteboard (or maybe two or three) for many contracts. If you checkout Airport CEO or equivalent games, you can see if uses a board that shows time slots when the planes land and takeoff, this is similar what this games really needs.
It's a very good game of an international team of train-enthusiasts for train-enthusiasts. I'm sorry, but i don't get the problem with the tutorial. Maybe im very smart? ;-P
