They had something cooking here with the theming and voxel art. However as a puzzle game I think they took the wrong direction. There is a certain order you're expected to connect the stops to achieve the most cash (score). However, the high score is not based on economics or efficiency. Instead, the scoring is based on a game mechanic of "stacking" as many uncompleted connections up as you can for one big finishing connection. As a puzzle, it's fine, but as a *train themed game* I find it unrewarding to plan the lines in that manner.
generally i'm no fan of the pixel / voxel look in most games but luckily here you barely notice since you are zoomed out to the max most of the time to get the best overview of the map. it's a puzzle game, not a management game. in fact you don't get to manage much of anything. there are no switches, no signals, no schedules, no nothing. train length and delays don't matter, trains turn around on the spot and once placed you can't (!) change or remove anything. but if needed you can undo multiple steps so that's a plus. it's easy and relaxing. all you need on a sunday. at least at first it is. it may look like a game for kids but it offers more than the easiest solutions and tinkering is surprisingly rewarding. finishing the game took 20 hours plus 1 hour extra for 100% achievements. worth it!
The art style is really pretty. I was disappointed when I saw that this is yet another train-themed puzzler rather than a management sim or tycoon game but I tried it anyway and tried to like it. I've played through the first world and a half so far, and I'm not impressed. Mistakes are bound to happen, whether you accidentally block one of your terminals, use the wrong terminal, or just fail to leave yourself enough space. If you make even a minor mistake you have to sit through a loading screen. If your mistake was several steps earlier in the level, you have to either restart completely or pick through a bunch of autosaves with nondescript names. Each level has an additional budget challenge (complete as cheaply as possible / make as much money as possible) and an optional challenge, like building without bridges. With the annoyance of fixing mistakes mentioned above, the budget challenges just aren't fun to try to optimize your layout.
As a certified penguin, train goes choo choo
I bought this without reading any of the comments. I expected to be able to move the tracks after I placed them by editing or deleting them as I went a long, but it's not that. It's a puzzle game, about managing funds to get the optimal train set up to cover all the map between items that need a shared thing. So a city might need, fish, flour, milk and cheese.... and you have x amount of money to spend to make it work. The game runs a progression line, so you do a couple connections that can make you a little more funds and then the next pieces of the map unlock and maybe get a bonus card you can use to save money, and then you can unlock the next progress point and revert to a previous one or restart. I think this would be better for a comfy game vibe, if I could edit or delete the tracks as I go. I went in looking for a comfy game about trains, end up with a slightly frustrating train puzzle game about management of resources. Not exactly what I was looking for. I'm keeping it and I may play it again, because I see that it could be a satisfying game, if I were in the puzzle mood... I'd side thumb this if I could. Cause it wasn't what I was after, but has potential for being an ok puzzle thing.
An addicting puzzle/maitenance game with lots of ways to play. Not super long but still a decent amount of content.
I would love it, if it wasnt this unforgiving.. One small misplacement and you run out of money and have to revert. Placed a station a bit too far and didnt notice? welp, after you finished and started the next move, you cant revert easily. Whyy? This is a puzzle, nothing more. Charming, but not too friendly.
relaxing fun.
