About
R-Type Delta is one of the finest shoot ‘em ups ever and took the gaming world by storm upon its release in 1998. Now, 27 years later, history repeats itself with R-Type Delta HD Boosted. With its tight level design, three selectable ships, powerful Delta Attacks, and the brilliant Force mechanic, this new edition proves that gaming classics of this caliber are truly timeless. If you played R-Type Delta back in the day, this is the perfect opportunity to return to its dark science fiction action. If you've never experienced this essential piece of gaming history before, now is the time.
R-Type Delta HD Boosted features high-resolution graphics that hone the polygonal edges of this PlayStation masterpiece until they’re sharp enough to cut glass. You simply haven’t experienced R-Type Delta until you've played it in high definition! Of course, the game also comes equipped with modern quality-of-life improvements.
What has always made R-Type Delta so fantastic is its dark, eerie atmosphere. Shoot-'em-ups are not typically known for storytelling, but R-Type Delta HD Boosted excels with its simple, minimalist environmental storytelling, characteristic of the late ’90s. It’s a narrative that is as fascinating as it is unsettling, as adrenaline-pumping as it is deeply disturbing. And all this without a single word being spoken.
The name “Delta” carries several meanings. Firstly, the Greek letter delta resembles a triangle, which coincidentally has as many sides as there are playable ships in the game. It is also the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet, and R-Type Delta is the fourth game in the R-Type series. Additionally, the delta triangle is the simplest type of polygon, which is fitting since R-Type Delta was the first game in the series to use three-dimensional polygon graphics instead of two-dimensional sprites.
The year is 2163, and the badly damaged R9 Arrowhead fighter has just returned to Earth after its mission to destroy the Bydo Empire. The vessel is rescued by the battle-cruiser Croque-Monsieur and transported to an orbital space station. One year later, astronomers in Central Asia observe mysterious objects falling from the sky, and moments later, control is lost over the orbiting annihilation platform Moritz-G. This high-tech machine, capable of destroying the entire planet, descends over a city and levels it to the ground. Although its planet-destroying weapons have not yet been activated, its advanced defense systems make Moritz-G virtually impossible to approach. A desperate military operation is launched, and the prototype ship R9aII Delta is deployed to resolve the situation. Thus begins the epic battle that is R-Type Delta!

following this, the forthcoming tactics 1*2 Cosmos collection and Dimensions 3rd Lightning; the only remaining R-Type games to yet get a modern port are the original Final, Super R-type, the Evolved content from Final 3 and Leo. this port does the job nicely at replicating the original PSX release save for the hic-ups at launch...would i say get this over obtaining the original? that depends on how deep your pockets are
Great port of a classic game back from 1999 (on PS1), it was revolutionary at the time, offering an intense 2.5D experience. I am extremely happy that this game has been released on Steam 26 years later with so much love and care. The old game with its typical R-Type strengths is still there, as are the old “3D” graphics. Great work and a "must have" for retro gamers :)
Excellent schmup. Excellent port, as well. Props to the developer/publisher for opting to make a port vs emulation. As a result, the game is so responsive and controls great.
Obra-prima do PS1. Nota 10.
eu fui uma criança feliz
So, I do recommend this game. It stands as one of the best R-Type games ever made, and it is still a great game today. However, this "port" is disappointing in several ways. You may have noticed that I put the word port in quotation marks. That's because I strongly suspect that this is not a port, but rather a game being run in an emulation layer presented under a custom front-end. Here's the skinny. First, the graphics options are extremely limited. You have some control over the output resolution, and you have 3 aspect ratio options. None of them are optimal in 2025. There is no true widescreen support. You get standard 4:3, a mode that extends the viewable area beyond standard 4:3, but it isn't 16:9. It's probably more like 3:2. If you want 16:9, your only option is to stretch the image. That SUCKS. Second, I hope you like wobbly polygons and tons of texture warping, because there's no option to correct it. Even modern PSX emulators have the ability to correct the PlayStation's awful vertex snapping issues. I think most of us can appreciate the pixelated textures, and I'm fine with no texture filtering options. However, I very much doubt many people want texture warping and polygon wobble in 2025. It's distracting, and the HD resolution bump only serves to magnify these distractions. Speaking of HD, that's the one thing this "port" gets right in the visual department. It does scale the internal rendering resolution properly. It's just a shame that the presentation is marred by blemishes from 30 years ago that nobody misses. At minimum, there should be options to toggle texture warping and vertex snapping. Instead we're left with a very lazy, barebones "port", and you can get considerably better image quality (including true widescreen) out of Duckstation or even ePSXe. Oh, there are issues with the soundtrack that others have pointed out, too. What a shame. I'm going to hold onto the game for now in hopes that the devs fix these things and add some better options.
ステージがどんどん攻略できる感覚が楽しい!デルタの世界観がステージが上がるごとに変化し、その世界観が好き!
This game is easily top 10 shmups for me for the experience, as well as having well designed levels and atmosphere. It rethinks a lot of the old systems, you can touch walls without dying and the dose meter adds another layer of strategy on top of a strategy focused (as opposed to reaction focused) shmup. The good art direction and use of setpieces make the memorization process easier but the punishing difficulty remains, and has aged well for coming from the PS1. As a port it's good enough to play the game 1:1 with the original but there are minor issues with the music timing you wouldn't notice unless you're familiar with the original.
