Gameplay (Level 1 - 18 solutions): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJlK22lbXIs I didn't expect to play it for two hours straight but that's exactly what happened. It's set on an island which to date has the most realistic graphics I've experienced in VR. I've played 19 of 20 levels and so far it has been mostly hard puzzles. This was one of the first puzzle games I've tried on the Vive and it's now one of my favorite games. As a whole I truly recommend it! PROS - Graphics are very realistic and to me it's the most realistic environment I have experienced in VR. - For the most part the puzzles are hard. - No instructions. This is actually a good thing seeing as it made it more difficult in the beginning. - No mic in multiplayer. I've only been able to try out online multiplayer for 15 minutes or so but I liked the fact that there was no mic. Only being able to express myself with my hands actually made it more fun. Plus, he/she didn't hear when I raged about my failings! CONS - [strike]Some puzzles seemed only possible for really tall people OR you'd need a high ceiling and a ladder![/strike] Edit: The developer answered and clarified that it is in fact possible to solve all puzzles no matter your own height or the height of your ceiling. - Multiplayer doesn't seem to be an option, couldn't find an option to opt-out. - Multiplayer latency wasn't great. Maybe a better matching system otherwise it gets quite laggy. Improvements - Add more puzzles! There are just 20 levels right now. I've reached level 19 and soon I'll be done. - Possibility to skip levels. I like the fact some levels are hard but it would be nice if it was possible to skip a level if the player has tried it for maybe 30 minutes or so. - View solutions. It would be interesting to see other possible solutions for a level once you've completed it. Either visually in-game or just text instructions. Total playtime: For me it took somewhere around 2 hours to get to level 19. I've not played many puzzle games before so for newbies this is great!
Good day. Just bought and downloaded Puzzle Island on my Oculus Rift S. Game looked good and i was excited to play only to discover NOTHING works sigh.... pulling the trigger does NOT launch the rope. Teleport does not work unless i click the toggle sticks. Turn only works on the left controller not the right one. PLEASE FIX or advise. Since i cant even launch a rope no matter what i press i am unable to do a thing.. cheers
Thank you to the developer for a free copy of the game. I really liked the island environment. the music and ambiance is very relaxing. I think I could just sit on that beach and mediate, without ever bothering to try and solve the puzzles. The puzzles start out very easy, and serve has a good introduction to the mechanics of the game. The puzzles do a very good job of progressively getting harder as levels progress, but not overly so. I also really liked the items used for the puzzles, they reminded me of things that might have washed up on shore from a shipwreck. I was not a fan of "ropes" used for moving objects. I might have liked it better if I could have actually retracted the rope similar to a fishing line. Instead, it was "attach", "pull", "release". I also didn't like that I did not have free movement, and that I could not hold an item and "warp" at the same time. It made item placement more difficult than it needed to be, taking more steps to place an item. Use of the rope also meant "room scale" movement...which I have never really cared for. For a relaxing game like this... I prefer to play seated, not standing up and sitting down to place items. Floating blocks and "respawning" crates were immersion breaking to me. For a physics based game, I would have preferred puzzles that use real world physics. For example...if the puzzle requires that something can't be placed under the target...use a "fire" to show why a wooden object can't be placed there. Use trees or real world objects to suspend mission critical items in the air. I wasn't all that impressed with this game. Although I appreciate the free review copy, I don't plan on coming back to it.
Extremely buggy, multiplayer is barely working, the puzzles aren't very difficult IMO, and the game hasn't been updated in about a year. It's a cool concept, but it's a very short barebones game with no support or updates happening. Just skip right over this, unless you happen upon it for free somehow.
A fun puzzler that's deceptively simple looking but can be a real challenge. Great ambiance, The island atmosphere really sets the player at ease allowing you to focus on the solution without all the stress. Can't wait to get back into it! A good combination of relaxation and fun.
This game requires full mobility and a large play area; if your mobility is limited or you don't have over a 6x6 area to play in, then you will have problems. Most games accommodate limited mobility (limited range of motion) and compensate for standing or sitting - this game does not. I normally stay away from any game that requires full movement (as my right arm is limited and I can't move my hand much higher than the top of my head), and in order to do many of these puzzles you have to be able to do that (and more). You cannot shut off the music (or mute it) and there is no option menu that I can find to change anything. While I don't expect a lot for a $1.24 on sale - I guess I got what I paid for.
I'm not really sure if Puzzle Island VR is an asset flip. Some elements of this game certainly make it seem like the developer put some effort into assembling some kind of original here. On the other hand, a lot of the game assets don't seem like they were created by the developer, but they haven't credited any asset creators for supplying assets, which might be a case of plagiarism. There's no evidence, so we need to give the benefit of the doubt... regardless, asset flip or not, the quality here is indistinguishable from many asset flip/cash grab scams, and that's a problem in itself. Puzzle Island VR is a very simple VR exclusive "puzzle" game where you're on an island with what look a lot like a bunch of uncredited stock assets (plagiarism is bad, mmkay). Use your VR controllers to move stuff around. There was a multiplayer component but the "developer" didn't know how to make it work properly, so they pulled it from the game. Which is kind of the problem with this "game" and many others like it... developers who don't know what they're doing, but they have $100 and access to Steam Direct, so there's no stopping them dumping valueless shovelware onto Steam. Valueless shovelware like "Puzzle Island VR". The game is very simplistic, small and limited in scope and ambition. This feels more like a tech demo, proof of concept or student homework assignment rather than a fully fledged product designed for PC gamers. As such it doesn't offer any real value as a serious PC game. This seems to have been made a VR exclusive to prevent any comparison with non-VR 3D games, a comparison that this game would fail very badly at. Developers must learn that while VR is great, if the only thing that makes the game great is the VR, then the game isn't great at all. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Puzzle Island VR has the far too high price of around $5 USD (I thought it was a joke at first but they seriously think this tech demo is worth $5), it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. For comparison, the $5 asking price for this game could get you games like "X-Com: Enemy Unknown", "Fallout: New Vegas" or "Frostpunk". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Fun and strangely compulsive. If you need some "mindfulness" to yourself ... this is probably the right prescription ... very tranquil and restful alone on the island (didn't try multiplayer) and a submarine stroll is also relaxing .. you need your wits when the wind blows ... and be aware that when you have everything you need to complete a level some (expected) functionality changes as part of the challenge of the game. Worked well no glitches, though the wiggly worm ropes took some mastering ......
A bit short indie puzzle game with a small isolated island setting, not much content, simplish gameplay, relaxing setting. The game consists of 20 physics based levels, some of them are very simple, others make you feel clever, others the main issue is your handling of the items. The puzzles are pretty simple, where "stacking" will be your more required talent. You throw ropes out of your hands, and you "grab" boxes, crates, barrels, spheres and other items and stack them so they are touching a floating orb, they have to stay there for a few seconds until it registers, then you finish the level. Some levels made me think "how am i gonna solve this!?" until something clicked, or i looked up and around to find something i might have missed. A couple of levels where a bit frustrating as i felt it was more "luck" that i could fling something correctly into place (not that it took that many tries) or maybe i was trying to solve it the hard way?? There is teleport only, but you dont ever leave the island, which is the only environment in the game. Overall the game has clever puzzles, a very calm setting, good music for the setting, and personally i liked the physics, performance was great (+120fps), graphics are... ok i guess, they are boxes. Ive had this game in my library for a while, lately ive been playing more puzzle games, and this one was a pretty ok 1 time time waster, i dont regret playing it, even if its very simplistic and short, i mean, its an indie game. Im recommending because all the puzzles work, i finished all 20 of them in ~40 minutes so, if you are looking for a simple relaxing puzzle game to kill a few minutes, for the price its pretty decent.
