Ugh, I wish I can recommend this game because the Mokos - I personally call them Floofs - are so insanely cute and adorable. But the game mechanics just don't do Pulse justice. Pros: - Insanely cute Mokos (Floofs) that make you happy every time you see them - Nice soundtrack - Nice aesthetic artwork - Very interesting concept with potential for an interesting plot Cons: - The gameplay can be extremely frustrating. There are parts where you have to land a jump at exactly the right corner at exactly the right time to make your landing. It is almost rage-inducing. - The visual elements in the game can also be frustrating. It's extremely easy to get lost, and sometimes it's hard to figure out where you're supposed to go. If you stop moving for even a second, your surroundings all turn to black. - The story was just confusing. There was little closure or anything to make much sense of it all. It sounded like a great fable with so much potential but the execution was poor. Pulse had so much potential - and it still has! But seriously, those game mechanics need some work. And the story needs more clarity. It's really hard to get into a plot when there's so many unanswered questions.
It is an interesting concept, and certain scenes are quite visually appealing, but overall there are too many aspects that felt unpolished. I found myself wondering far more often than I feel I should have as to whether certain aspects were purposeful design or an annoying accident.
A fun and good looking game ruined by poor execution and busted controller support. I'd love to give it a thumbs up but the flaws and bugs really ruin what could have been a fun game.
I was one of the Kickstarter backers of this game, which seemed like an interesting experiment. I never got around to trying it out until now, and am disappointed to find that it's such a mess of a game. The environment is a sparkly translucent mess; ironically for a game about a character who is blind, they show you *too* much for it to be useful. Trying to navigate this world gave me an actual physical headache, and that's not something I'm generally prone to in gaming. I had to just give up playing this after a while; it just wasn't fun or enjoyable, and I later skimmed through others' playthroughs and discussions to get a feel for what I missed out on by not continuing. For a game about a blind character who ostensibly navigates through sound, the sound isn't very useful. The game's audio is vague and only the slightest bit directional, and offers almost no help in finding your way. The story is vague to the point of barely-trying, whatever questions you may have about the character and her world are hardly addressed. It seems little actual writing was done. There aren't any control-options or other guidance given; unless you dig through the user discussions and such you won't even know how to move or do much. Even when you do know how to move, there's almost no way to figure out where you're supposed to go or what you're supposed to do; you're left blundering about until you achieve something, get lost, or die. A supreme basic irony of this game: for a game about a character who is blind and which attempts to use that blindness as a novelty game mechanic, it's a completely inaccessible and unplayable mess for players with low or no vision. Though I'm sighted I've worked in the field of accessibility for the blind and low-vision community and I have experience playing and enjoying alternatively-accessible games, and this game is definitely not one of them. All in all, this is a really disappointing effort and a missed opportunity. I'm uninstalling and forgetting about it.
It's really not that bad as steam reviews might imply.
Cute and short game with a mysterious story. The ice level is one to rage out... it's difficult and buggy but possible to beat.
As ive seen the other reviews that were so bad i didnt expect much of the game. Well, in the end it was good. Nice experience and it has a nice story. For this price its okay.
The experience provided by this game is not notably impacted by playing without sound. A little disappointing as the charter you play is, according to the narrative, navigating the world entirely by sound.
Interesting playstyles are always welcome for me. there could have been better executions on the concept, but on a sale, this game is definitely worth the cost. Kept me thinking, and the visuals are very nice throughout. Overall, a nice game, with a neat story and an interesting aesthetic.
