This is right up my alley. There I was after playing Devotion saying I wasn't sure if ever I could find another game that plays almost exclusively on that surreal horror of disorientation, and yet here we are less than a month later with one that works on that exact plane to the absolute extreme. It is so weird in all the right ways, messing around with the form and structure constantly and being completely unpredictable in every sense. One or two story beats did get a little lost in the shuffle as a result but I genuinely didn't really care because it had me so hypnotised for the rest of it. I'm cishet so the actual themes didn't cut nearly as deep as the mere surface experience for me, but wow that experience.
TL;DR: GAME GOOD. after sitting on it forever after buying because i didn't have a controller (i didn't remember needing one for the demo i played previously but w/e), i played through my first run in a single sitting. I got immediately hooked by the mystery and the cyberpunk-like aesthetics and the nostalgia of playing this kind of explore-and-follow-the-puzzle-pieces type of game as a kid. the story was really interesting (and creepy! /pos) and I allowed myself to get very attached to a particular character in a "I've only known [X] for a half hour but if anything happened [etc etc]" kind of way. Now I need to replay at some point to get the bits I missed.
A fascinating and beautifully rendered little mystery. I was able to finish it in one sitting.
oh my goodness. this game is actually incredible. the artwork, the soundtrack, the story, everything. the gameplay is fun, but not very challenging, and leaves a lot of room for the story to be told. the characters feel whole and fleshed out, and really help build the world in which they exist. psychroma is an impactful, engaging, and artistic experience i think everyone should play at least once! 1000/10
Its just so peak words cant do it justice
I liked it. Play-through took about 2 hours all together. The story is pretty good imo, found myself feeling emotional for the characters at times. It feels like some things are left a little open ended/unexplained, which isn't a bad thing, I personally enjoy a little confusion in a story like this one. It is a fairly linear path though, the game progresses as you expect and there aren't really any hidden objectives (apart from some data logs you can collect). The art style is my favorite kind to see in a video game, its a detailed environment and if nothing else I enjoyed the exploration. However, don't go into it expecting to solve puzzles. At least past the extent of remembering item locations and basic associations.
I'd give it a shot if you enjoy narrative based games.
WOW. This game is quite good, though be ready for a bit of tedium while trying to progress, the gameplay is not very strong but the story is fantastic. I would recommend waiting for a sale as the runtime is rather short (my playtime reflects a 100% completion without guidance)
