Product no longer works as you cannot contact the master server. Single player still requires to contact the server. Game needs a patch to remove this requirement. Until then it is unplayable. I believe you can still play with couch co-op in single player, but there are better ways to program this for a shutdown.
Trident's Wake is a cooperative isometric shooter with up to four people against all sorts of alien critters. But stingy ammo yet frenetic action (total weapon mismatch) and the lack of real difference among the different "sentinels" (robot bodies) made the game lack a certain something that other twin-stick shooters, such as Helldivers actually worth playing. The backstory is pretty good... Earth is desperately trying to launch Trident, a colony ship that is the last best hope for mankind, in order to flee "The Phage". Sentinels, inhabited by various ECHOs (digital humans) are trying to hold the line. They did see Trident launch, but it was quickly intercepted by alien ships. Human ships roared in pursuit, only to find the Trident dead in space, having been boarded by unknown aliens. Now as one of the few remaining Terran units, choose your sentinel, you must wrest back control of the ship by conquering the different sectors and take on the enemies, in order to secure humanity's future. However, in practice, the objectives are pretty lame. You basically play on slight variations of the map, kill lone enemies before they can sound the alarm, make your way to the objective, then play Alamo for about 20 seconds, where you need to hold back a long wave of enemies of various types that rush you, while whatever you do finishes. Some tie you to the spot (like computer terminal) while others are grab and run, while enemies come at you. And let's just say some enemies are pretty big and pretty darn resilient. The problem is there's a fundamental mismatch between the type of enemies and the guns given. With all the enemies that rush you, you'd think you'd be given a lot of firepower, like assault rifles and shotguns. You do get assault rifle and shotgun, but they are rather weak, and you don't ever seem to have enough ammo. There is an ability to throw out an ammo pack, which I supposed you can throw it out for yourself, but that's just... lame? It's clear that solo play is an afterthought. But any way, you'd be dodging left and right while enemies rush you and shoot at you. And this game does NOT have auto-reload. If you empty a magazine, you have to MANUALLY hit reload in order to reload. And your reloads are limited. Once you're out, you're out. You only have 2 weapons, the unit special power, and the "backpack" (could be repairs or ammo). A lot of the weapons are completely unsuitable for fighting a swarm, like sniper rifle, railgun, flamer, and so on. There's a minigun, but it takes a WHOLE SECOND to spin up, making it useless to handle single enemies, and very hard to use on bosses. Shotgun does VERY little damage unless you're point-blank and all the shots went into one target. Plasma gun is okay, but strangely, the only GOOD weapon is the hand cannon... If you click fast enough, it shoots almost as fast as assault rifle, but doing much more damage. You have 10 mags of 15 rounds each, so if you ration yourself a bit you can do a LOT of damage. Much better than holding the trigger down with the weak assault rifle, or worse, the SMG. There are no grenades or other explosives in the game. No mines or traps of any kind. The ugprade mechanism is unexplained and also weird. You get "weapons part" on missions, and you are also supposed to raid "closets" for "materia", the currency in the game. With enough weapon parts and materia, you can upgrade one or more of your weapons to a higher tier, which raises "base stats". You can then spend some more materia to "recalibrate" the gun, basically randomize dice roll to raise some stats and lower others. From the few times I tried it, the calibration didn't do anything worthwhile, and the tier upgrades are EXPENSIVE, costing several THOUSAND materia per tier (you get anywhere from 300-500 per mission, depending on how thorough you are searching for loot). The upgrades are simply too slow and too much effort. There are about 10 sentinels (robot bodies) you can choose, each has a special ability, plus slight differences in how much armor vs. how much shields, how fast the shield recharges, and how many "dash"es can it do (basically short teleport where you blink and you're couple squares away) Some sentinels can deploy a portable wall, others can conduct a rocket barrage, yet another can unleash blades to eviscerate enemies. It depends on how you use each one to its best strength, which is again, why solo play is PITA. There are better games suitable for solo play or even group play... like Helldivers.
As many have pointed out... the game devs decided against using steams free matching and server listing api and instead decided to host their own at their own cost which is now shut down making much of this game unplayable. There is only single player when the game was built around being upto 4 player coop. So yeah... pretty lame.. they could have made their game playable for ever but no they wanted the ability to lock it down and stop their customers from ever using a huge part of the game.. for what reasons we can only guess... generally its only for profits or power (control)..
SCAM ALERT!! I got the STEAM key via 3rd party for £2.5. This is the only good part. When I tried to launch the game, turns out there are no active servers. OK so I decided to host SP game. This is also not possible! The game simply asks you if you want to leave the lobby after a while but no key responds. All you can do is press ESC and once again it looks to host the game and then the same message, over and over again. I tried restarting and changing settings but this doesn't change a thing. THE GAME IS A SCAM! I may have worked in 2019 when it was released but in 2023 seems, its no longer supported! This is the first time I got scammed via 3rd party like this on Steam. Fortunately its not even £3.
Not just abandoned, sluggish, and a bit shoddy, this game is broken. Among quite a few other issues:

missions generated without objectives needed to exit
rebinding controller inputs appears to work but actually disables them instead
if you disable Steam Input simply random things will not work and you can't even start a mission
playing local co-op, player 1's trigger and dash don't just cause p2's character to act whether they wanted to or not, but override their controls, so if p1 is holding their trigger firing, p2's trigger just does nothing
That's stupid. Devs that leave their game in such a broken state disgust me. On the up side, everything you do in the game is basically the same, and that itself isn't much to care about, so you don't miss out on anything but a poor experience made poorer by bad dev effort.
I don't like to give negative reviews but I really think this game should be patched since connection to Master Server is now offline. The 2 best options for this case would be changing the Multiplayer to be a Peer to Peer connection or develop at least some simple bots for single player and removing the menus that try to connect to Master Server (My game was "locked" trying to connect to a Master Server and I needed to Alt-F4). None of the 2 options I mentioned are the best but is at least something better than just abandoning the community. I was starting to like this game when I purchased it and hope one day a developer may read this and solve this issue.
Warning: SCAM. Broken Game! The game relies on back-end servers that the developer has terminated. The game cannot be launched in multiplayer and the local hosting option requires connectivity to the developers non-existent servers. The developer continues to try to sell this game knowing it is unplayable, making this a verifiable SCAM. Avoid at all costs.
Trident's Wake was a co-op centric 3D rendered 2D top down action sci-fi shooter. The developers handfisted mismanagement of the online component was a dealbreaker, resulting in this current disaster. At this point I would typically address any technical shortcomings with the game, but in this case, I am unable to even launch the game to verify it. The developer is fully aware of this and yet still has their hand out for YOUR money for an unplayable game. We can assume there were some underlying defects that lead to the game being abandoned by both players and the developer. Trident's Wake didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for exploding a bomb prematurely, trivial to get, but less than 19 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 12 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Unethically, the developers have left this on the Steam store in an unplayable and broken state. This is harmful to Steam and to gamers, because it takes a share of the marketing space and visibility away from other games. It's polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuine games and for genuine indie developers who put months or years into making proper games find an audience. This game is likely to be removed by Valve if they ever enforce basic quality standards... not least of which, the game must work. The developer is deliberately and unethically trying to scam gamers into paying them the preposterous price of $15 USD for a game they know is broken. Don't give it to them.
Me gusto mucho el juego! lamentablemente nunca pude jugar online con nadie, jamas pude unirme a una partida y por ende es muy dificil terminar una mision por mas facil que sea
Really boring. Not a lot of content. Lots of online-only progression that feels really empty and restrictive. Like Helldivers but even worse.
I'm recommending this game because on the base level, the game is playable and easy to pick up and play, however the game has been left in a bit of a broken state and is no longer supported by the dev team according to their discord , so any glitches, bugs or texture issues you may come across while playing the game may not be fixed or patched in the future. That said, the game is a simple twin-stick shooter where you play as a Robotic soldier called a "Sentinel" tasked with clearing out the "Trident", a type of "ark" that holds human embryos and Humanity's last hope for survival amidst an alien invasion. you can play solo or with a group of 4 to fight through and take back control of 4 different sectors on the ship before moving on to the final "Strike Back" phase where you activate the Trident's defense turrets and fight off the alien attackers. The game offers 6 different Sentinels you can control, each with their own stats, and abilities, 11 different weapons you can equip and 5 different deployable equipment packs you can take with you on your missions. the game also has "mission modifiers" that can increase your sector control amount whenever you complete a mission, increase your EXP gained, double the amount of "Matheria" you get from scavenging and doubles the amount of weapon parts you find after each mission, all at the cost of either increasing map size, removing the ability to respawn, enabling friendly fire or making enemies more difficult respectively. the game is a bit "grindy" as you need EXP to unlock new Sentinels, Weapons and Equipment, and you need to fill up your "zone control" meter by completing successful missions in each zone so you can unlock additional weapons and equipment while getting one step closer to the end goal, and you need Matheria and Weapon Parts to upgrade your weapons. To keep the game interesting so that the player doesn't bore too quickly zones offer randomly generated levels so no play through of each sector is exactly the same. you still have to complete a total of 3-4 objectives per mission before exfiltrating on the end-stage elevator however, and the enemies you fight are all the same with no variation between zones. another feature that tries to keep the game interesting is the ability to upgrade or re-role your weapons through the "recalibration" menu where you can spend Matheria and Weapon parts to re-role damage, ammo capacity, rate of fire, accuracy and effective range or upgrade the weapon to a higher tier level so you can re-role even higher stats. it all offers a bit more risk and reward with your weapons and can help with taking on stronger enemies in the future. Most weapons, equipment and Sentinel abilities are improved through gaining EXP and unlocking their additional perks and traits through standard EXP Progression. at the time of writing this i have put in over 20 hours of gameplay and have reached Rank 24 and i've still got a bit of a ways to go before i unlock every additional trait and ability for all my weapons, equipment and Sentinels. Once you've gained control of all 4 sectors you then can move on to the final phase, the "strike back" phase. this is a single mission where you must run a gauntlet of never ending waves of enemies as you try to get the "Trident's" defense turrets back online. Once you complete this task and complete the mission you get the ending cutscene (which was bugged for me unfortunately and crashed the game) and then you start over from square one where you have to work your way back up the sector control grind before you can play the "Strike Back" mission again. all in all, a simply fun shooter game, but sadly with the issue's i've experienced with it, while not game breaking kinda ruins the fun and i can see it turning a lot of people away, which is why i'm still recommending it, but with the warning that it might be a bit defective.
