Somehow still has the magic and creativity of the first game
Do you remember what made the original Psychonauts good? Well...you will not find it here. Instead of staying true to their roots with genius writing, excelent level design, and memorable characters; they just tried to push woke agenda onto their players. - the Moderlobe quarry map is horrible, and it feels so out of place, same for Psy King's sensorium; it's a far cry from the Milkman Conspiracy and Fred Bonaparte's War level from the original game. - the new Agents design sucks a$$! both in terms of art direction and writing. - the Projection ability has very little usage throughout the game, and it is only used for backtracking doors and levers that were previously inaccessible. - the plot is so weak that you can spot the villain right at the beginning of the game. - they tried to revamp the mobs and abilitites, but they still reused a lot of the old ones which is very disappointing. - the back and forth to restore Ford's mind is so unnecessary, even the plotline doesn't make any sense.
Great game, great story. Highly recommend and make sure to play the first game as well!
10/10 A very good game that explores different aspects of mental health in creative and innovative ways. Stages: Each stage makes you reflect on your own mental state and the world around you. At times, the way you see life is contrasted with other perspectives, or even with what’s inside other people’s minds (quite literally). The level design, colours, paths, music, sound effects, and even the NPCs all contribute pieces to the larger mystery of the human mind. Characters: Very memorable and nostalgic, making you want a remake of the first Psychonauts. The character development is so well done that you can relate to each character and understand their motivations and actions. Music: Peter McConnell did an amazing job, with tracks that mix jazz fusion and orchestral vibes, making you feel like you’re in an animated movie.
Simply one of the best games ever made. The perfect sequel to Psychonauts 1.
Dei trash. gets boring very quickly and the puzzles are really boring.
Ok, so, if you just want more Psychonauts then you get more psychonauts, the graphics are upped thanks to the technology and gameplay is way more polished... but I can't for the life of me think this game is better than the first game. As I said the gameplay is great, the plataforming is way better than the first, there are QoL changes that make your life 10 times easier if you're a completionist, bosses are great, and the story feels more grounded and frankly better written overall compared to the first. But the big point at least for me, I didn't think a single one of the minds of this game was more interesting than the ones in the first, I don't think many share this opinion but I played the first years ago and I can still remember levels like Milla's and the theater (Milk man is just a timeless classic, I'm not mean enough to hold that level as any standard), I just finished this and the only one that sticks to my mind was the concert. And a second point that annoyed me greatly is that this game threw away almost the entire cast from the first game but they got replaced by a way larger cast, so how did it fare? -Sasha and Milla, really interesting characters from the first game, personal favorites even, I'm really pumped to see how they contribute...pretty much not in the story. -The campers were replaced with a bunch of psychonaut interns, they were a bit unlikeable but they seem interesting enough and Sam is even related to important characters in both games so with a bit of development they could shine... and they only appear in the very first mission and
The tail end of the very last one.
-Raz's family that just pop up in the story... they did just for a plot point and completely forgotten afterwards. -Lili? Raz's girlfriend, has connections to a mayor character in the story and also the main mistery...
Does nothing the entire plot and she is only mission control on a single level
-Ok, so how about the group of characters that you enter the minds of and pretty much hijacks the plot after the first mission?
Dissapear at the climax of the story!!!
Ok I can't deal with this. This humongous cast feels like they came from 3 different stories that got chopped up and frankestined together afterwards with the way they appear and disappear, despite me thinking that this is a good story overall, I'm amazed at how they manage to find the perfect way to undermine each and every character in it. And a point I didn't know how to bring up naturally... the designs feel very diferent from the first game, they still look like Picasso paintings but they look over all cuter and more approachable (heck, Sam is downright adorable), while on the first the ugly characters looked down right grotesque, I'm ambivalent to this, the art style still feels somewhat intact but it also feels a lot less bold. Could be good could be bad.
