Works without any issues on the steam deck, but does require changing the resolution. Also starts with settings on low, so it might be a good idea to change those too. Game itself is decent, though it does have some rather frustrating design choices, like getting stunlocked by constant missile spam. The story is nothing special, and the side content is exclusively just movement/combat challenges. Criticism aside, the movement feels good, and the combat can be fun. It also serves as an excellent time capsule into how games used to be 15+ years ago. Raw and unpolished, but in a good way, unlike the bug ridden, poorly optimized games filled with battle passes and "micro"transactions that cost more than a brand new game does that became so common these days. Wait for a sale before buying.
I skimmed the red reviews this game has, and they’re mostly about the technical difficulties. It worked like a charm for me on Steam Deck, it was just utterly miserable to play. It’s a shame because the core mechanics are mostly great. Tearing some army guys apart is fun, traversal is some of the most enjoyable I’ve seen, and all of it doesn’t really matter because the mission design is absolutely atrocious. All main missions are about three times longer than they should be, and most of them are about doing something mind-numbing. Why are we protecting tanks for freaking eternity in a game about being a biomass murder machine? Whose bright idea was making us endure an hour-long stretch when we lose all powers in the middle of the game? Why is 70% of the encounters against the lamest and most annoying mutants ever made by human beings? Why is EVERYTHING in this game staggers our super duper leathal edgy protagonist? It’s not even all that challenging most of the time - it just becomes a chore really fast. I’ll be honest, I gave up when I saw the stagger-o-throne Elizabeth Greene fight. I’m convinced that this never made it into testing, I’ve got no other explanation. Saints Row 4 is a better Prototype game, and I’m not sorry in the slightest.
I loved this game on console, but the game won't launch at all even with the Nexus Mod "fix". Hate to return such a fun game.
Childhood memories, my god this game is still amazing.. I love it. WE NEED A PROTOTYPE 3 NOW
One of the greatest xbox 360 era video games. Runs well under linux.
So they updated it in 2025. Is it finally fixed? Nope. Every time I launch it it starts in a super low resolution, and I can't set it any higher than 1280×800. How can't they fix something communityfix did years ago
This game is absolutely amazing, i've nearly had a thousand hours? But yeah be prepared for the hell to get this game running and with mods, not only that, my modded game legit stopped working along with prototype 2 at the exact same type, please know what you're getting into, this is not a plug a play game, you need to fix it up, the game is very good, although it can be extremely hard at times! I'll give it an 8 out of ten. Also the content is kinda low, once you beat the story, get all upgrades, do all the challenges on the map and attain the super tedious game collectables, that's pretty much it! Although it has some bugs this game is actually kinda solid for even today lol!
Очень мне нравится 100/10
Might genuinely be among the worst PC ports on Steam. Without mods, the game is unplayable. Even on high-end systems you're going to get extremely low FPS. You're locked to low resolutions as the game won't correctly detect cards with more than 2GB of VRAM. The controls at times can feel like they're actively working against you and make certain challenges in the game borderline impossible due to the janky movement. At least you can fix the performance issues and resolution with a mod. The missions, challenges, and combat are all extremely repetitive. Go to a place, beat some guys up, go somewhere else. The good news is that if you're a fan of that layout, and you're a completionist, there's plenty of content for you to do, I just found that it got stale after just an hour. I used to genuinely love this game as a kid, but experiencing it as an adult is something I wish I didn't do. But, when you're feeling nostalgic, it's somewhat fun to run around and do some challenges. You'll get to see most of what the game has to offer pretty quickly, as the game showers you with points you use for upgrades and unlocking of new powers pretty quickly. My only gripe is that the game becomes tedious very quickly, and without third party mods, you can barely even get the game to run.
