Pro Strategy Football 2023

I've been playing statistical sports board games since 1972 and computer statistical games since the early 1990s. (I was also game reviewer for the late, lamented Replay Sports Review in the 1990s). And I will say this without fear of contradiction: PRO STRATEGY FOOTBALL IS THE MOST VERSATILE SPORTS SIMULATION GAME I HAVE ***EVER*** PLAYED. The first thing you do after buying the game is go out on the Web and get the player mods; you can add real-life players from the 1940s to the 2020s (including the short-lived competitor leagues such as the USFL). You can also download announcer mods to have real-life announcers do audio play-by-play (admittedly basic). Install the season(s) and announcer(s) you want, and then GO CRAZY. Manage the team top to bottom. OR just call the plays. OR have the program run a full season automatically, week-by-week or the whole season at one shot. Call the plays for three or four teams a week and have the AI run the rest of the games. Watch FULL animated games played by the AI, view the animated highlights, or just read the text play-by-play (which you can save as a text file). Edit teams, edit schedules, edit players, edit uniforms, edit the goalposts for whatever season you're playing (the game has both H and Y goalposts, with front/back of end zone placement. Run a draft with your friends, create the schedule, and then play it out face to face or have the AI run the whole season for you. Within thirty minutes of purchasing Pro Strategy Football I was watching the 1972 season (historically Miami 14-0) with Pat Summerall providing play-by-play. The second game I watched saw the New York Jets (Namath, Riggins, Boozer) score a literal last-minute touchdown (0:30 left in the 4th) to beat the Buffalo Bills (O.J. Simpson) by 4 points. That was freaking THRILLING and that game alone was worth the price of the software. Although I fully intend to start play-calling in the near future, right now I'm just reliving my junior high school years, watching the great players from my tweenhood performing statistically accurately. It's like being a kid all over again. Pro Strategy Football beats Madden, Mogul, and Strat-O bloody, for price, for features, and for flexibility. And you may quote me on that.

If you are in year 6 of your career, go back to any game and view the highlights. MY WISHLIST: A third alternate uniform with more style options, outline color option for names in endzones

I can't take this game seriously. This game's rating for each team are so jacked. At least for the college teams. Penn State has a rating of 80 while someone like South Carolina is rated 89!? And SC wins the simulations of 1000 games 903 to 97 times against PSU!? Meanwhile a lower team like Wyoming is rated 89 and beats PSU 876-124 in 1000 simulations. GTFOH. I haven't even tried the NFL. When I simulate the Eagles vs Penn State, PSU wins 673-327. LOL I don't get this game. Glorified TECHMO BOWL.

It's not a perfect game, but if you're looking for a football season replay game, it's already one of the best. Note however it's Tom Landry, not Front Office Football, so don't expect a fully fleshed out general manager simulation - you're the head coach, and this game does that very well. There's a lot that could still be added - I would like to know which player the penalty got called on, for instance, and a lot of the issues have to do with how information is presented, for instance I can't find scoring plays only on games if that exists.

I have played quite a few different gridiron games and this one is PURE FUN! The game interface is intuitive and straightforward, the coaching aspect promotes serious mental calisthenics and the on screen presentation is good without mods but excellent if you add the fantastic art that the modders have created. Well worth the $$$ invested !

Very good simulation of the ins and outs of Professional Football.

Very cool, accessible, customisable, low-performance impact football game. Highly recommendable for anyone who fancies platformer football.
