Upstate skies, but I’m stuck in the gray, Shackled and trapped, every night’s the same day. Life’s a window, just a crack in the wall, I see the world spinning, but I’m stalled in the crawl. Dreams of freedom, but they’re locked in chains, Every breath a struggle, every thought is pain. I hear the birds sing, but the bars are my tune, Living life in shadows beneath the cold moon. Through the crack, I see the world pass by, A glimpse of hope, like a tear in the sky. Shackled in this life, but my soul stays intact, Fighting for the day I can break through the crack. Memories haunt me, they play on repeat, The laughter, the sunlight, the sound of the street. Now it’s concrete dreams and a steel-frame bed, Writing verses in my mind to keep my spirit fed.
