About

The Explorator is a game inspired by Atmospheric FPS with a cell-shaded visual style. As an Explorator, you take your courage in both hands to set foot on the most dangerous island in the known world, Ospolis. Prepare yourself well, as many challenges and obstacles await you.

Legend has it that the ancient city of Atlantis lies beneath this island, which has been suddenly invaded by goblins and monsters that have emerged from the bowels of underground tunnels bored by unwary explorers confident of finding this famous city. You'll have to traverse the region zone by zone to make contact with these demon-encircled explorers and help them solve the mystery of the attack.
Experience a refreshingly original combination of cell shading and handmade 2D animation

I bought this game after watching the promotion content on it. I love the look of the game and enjoyed beating it. With that being said, there is not much there and most of everything doesn't work. I can't recommend the current state of EA but I will be awaiting all updates and replaying it
Charming, unique, and interesting. I see the vision here, but for right now the game is a hesitant recommend. Having played a couple of hours on the demo during Next Fest some time ago, I like what is here save for some things that need to be wrinkled out. The Explorator is very much in early access given the amount of content and issues I've come across early on. The bulk of issues I have are on the technical side. Borderless full screen causes this weird screen tearing effect. Changing the fps limit in game is hit or miss on whether or not it works. When I was trying to isolate what was causing visual screen tearing I noticed the fps wouldn't change and I had to restart the game. Navigating the merchants menu was a bit finicky, when trying to select an item the cursor defaulted higher or offset from where I was pointing. Combat is serviceable, but lacks impact. Although given the art direction maybe that is to be expected. Lastly performance is a bit all over. On a 4080S/9900x/32gb RAM, I was going as low as mid 60's on ultra, 1440p with a 120 fps target. For what I don't like there is plenty of good here. The art style is lovely. Level design feels open and offers a good amount of exploration, I think this is where a lot of the fun is. Atmospherically the game is well on the right track and nails the feeling of being an explorer. I am hopeful that the issues I have encountered are ironed out over the course of development. I think what is available here is a good start, but needs work. This feels like a game made by someone who likes games and I will be interested in seeing the upward growth from here.
The Explorator features a truly unique art style and atmosphere. Although the controls and general missions are fairly self-explanatory, the game still feels like an early-stage alpha right now. The developers state in the EA info that "Early Access will allow us to make corrections and modifications", but in my opinion, there isn't even a solid foundation to build upon yet. Based on this disclaimer, I expected a fundamentally playable game that just needed players' feedback and polishing, not a project in its rawest form. During my short time playing, I've already encountered a few bugs that made the gameplay more annoying than entertaining. For instance, the UI is completely glitched; the compass symbols are totally distorted and overlapping, making it impossible to know where to actually go. Then I couldn't close the compass anymore, and it stayed stuck right in the middle of the screen, which could only be fixed by a restart. This happened 2 times, so I just decided not to open the compass again. You can see the effort, the unique vision, and the game's quirky charm the devs have put into their project, but it simply isn't "enough" yet - even for an Early Access title. I'll keep this game on my radar and check back in a year, hoping the devs can find a balance between staying true to their vision and incorporating community feedback. I really like the core concept, but at the moment, it's hard to tell what the game is actually trying to be.
There is a unique charm to the Explorartor. The art style is captivating. Sadly my initial reaction to the barren landscapes, janky shooting mechanics that feel worse than an N64 game, and permanent 15-30 FPS, is that even for an early access game, this wasn't quite ready for release. I only managed 30 minutes which may be harsh to condemn the game to not recommend. There's a vision here - but a game still needs to feel functional for me to enjoy.
Like many other people I really want to like this game, and there is a good concept here for some good quick fun and some interesting story. Unfortunately having played the Demo when it came out and playing the early access release not a lot has been fixed or changed, and some of it has actually gotten harder to use. Pros +The art style is very nice with the characters and locations being very nice to look at. (Also a draw back in the cons) +The story and gameplay loop is interesting enough to keep your attention, even with the lack luster missions you have to slog through. +The gunplay is very tight and consistent making combat easy to get into, but a bit slow. Cons -The UI is very clunky and the only hotkey for menus like Missions, Inventory, and Codex, ect... that works is "I" for your Inventory. The map is less the unhelpful with a very limited compass top-down that most levels don't have a texture for the map on it. -The crafting system is not great with it becoming exponentially more expensive to BUY (not craft) new gear. -he missions don't give out much of an increase in payout as you go making the workshop more and more of a money management for what is going to be best in slot rather than choosing an option for the playstyle you want. -The enemy NPCs have a really bad case of the "spidey-senses" where they feel your presence when you get close enough and shoot you as soon as you are visible without giving you much time to react. -The movement are very slidey, and difficult to manage with some of the platforming sections of the game. Also half of the key binds do not allow you to change them with most of them bound to what looks like a Null value showing up as the "A" key and I have yet to find out what most of them are set to. -The big environments are nice to look at, but once you realize that nothing you loot comes back to camp with you, nor does it translate into coins there really isn't any reason to look around outside of your quest markers. This make the game an A -> B -> C -> Finish kind of playstyle detracting from what I think is one of the main selling points of the game. -Redoing old mission does not give you rewards again. I thought that maybe I could farm some quick workshop items by doing some of the other missions again, but you cannot. You have to continue to do the missions you get and with the exponential workshop costs and building enemy difficulties it became more and more unenjoyable with heavy ammo management and a lot of hide and seek gameplay. If the game had a cash-loot system where there were items to find outside of your mission to get extra cash at camp, I feel that would give the player a reason to look around a bit more in the level that are really quite beautiful, as well as give them a chance to buy more items to try out. Getting the starter items and enough ammo and consumables to survive costs just about everything you get from the first set of missions so you really don't get any option to scale up your power with the amount of enemies you start facing in the mid-game. I really hope there is more to come with this game I I would love to see larger maps with larger areas to navigate for multiple missions and only a map not a Skyrim compass like they had in the Demo making for a more exploration feel.
I'm not saying it couldn't be fun but right now its lacking so many things i cant play it. mainly controller support and some type of mission structure. I'm not judging yet i hope development on this fixes the downsides. good luck Syd.
A very solid foundation for a surreal world full of wonders. Can't wait to see what it's like once it's completed.
What a great start to a very cool take on the SP extraction shooter sub-genre! As of October, the gameplay loop is basically, you drop into a mission, complete specific objectives, and the game immediately drops you back to the hub upon completion. You don't extract with any items you picked up (I know this sounds weird), but what you do get is little Stars (tokens for unlocking everything in the crafting table at the hub area). Not every mission requires you to reach an extraction point either. So its kind of hard to label this an extraction shooter. Its not a rogue-like either. So the twist is that everything you unlock with the stars you earn from missions and goals, permanently unlocks in your inventory. So say you want to start with a pistol and 30 rounds of ammo, you buy the pistol with stars, and the ammo you also buy with stars, So say you spend 150 stars on ammo, you will always start every mission with however much ammo you have unlocked. This is a really ingenious way to do an extraction shooter style game, without the stress and micromanagement of an extraction shooter. Because there is literally no risk, but only rewards. If you die in a mission, you just load right back in the hub, as if you never left. Combat in the game is probably one of the high-marks for me. Given that you have pretty limited ammo, a lot of combat is very tactical. If you kit yourself out with tons of equipment, you could certainly get through more guns blazing. But I opted to work through the current roster of missions, largely using stealth and cover. Inventory management is incredibly simple, there is no injuring specific limbs or bleeding out here. If you get wounded, just pop some bandages, medkits, food, etc, and take cover for a few seconds to heal. Unfortunately there's maybe 10 hours of content atm, but what is there was really enjoyable. I actually quite like the world-building the devs are doing and the setting/tech/etc. It feels very Ghibli and European Graphic Novel influenced, both visually and story wise. Another high-mark is the soundtrack! A couple pieces really grabbed me and made me want to look up if the soundtrack was available to download or not. Great stuff!
This game has a unique atmosphere and a very personal vision, I had a great time playing it and being lost in its universe. the music are very beautiful and match well the mood to create a particular ambience. It suffer still some bugs and may distract you from the immersion but it's still an early access, so I expected it. nonetheless i see a huge potential here and i am eager to see what will happen next.
