This is a really good game! If you're a fan of platformers like Celeste or Super Meat Boy, you would be a fool to miss this one. Edit: Figured I'd do a quick update now that I've finished the game. It was wonderful! I loved every minute of it. The dev seems to have 3 more games planned in the series, so hopefully this isn't the end of the line for Planet Cube.
I gave up since it's harder than the game's description and some reviews suggest. I don't mind dying 10+ times on few occasions, but the boss on 2nd stage is simply too much for me. The game expects me to keep avoiding beams, while the boss has very short interval of being vulnerable. In addition, I frequently dying because the place outside of beam attack is very far from where my character currently stands. But the artstyle is great, while the music isn't bad either. So if you're specifically looking for a hardcore or very difficult platformer game, you probably will like this game. Otherwise, seek elsewhere.
Enjoyed it. Appreciated that it didn't, even at the final boss, go "we're going to make this frustrating by making you start the whole boss battle from phase 1 when you die". Difficulty level was hard but not stupidly frustrating hard, except for one section which I found near-impossible using a controller, and not bad at all when I switched to keyboard controls; it needed a lot of fast "down-diagonal" jumps, and with a controller it was 50:50 on getting that or "straight down so missing the platform" or "straight right so jumping up instead of down", which, with many of them in a row, made it annoying as heck. I think there's a bit of a savegame bug there; after I did it one time with the controller I exited at the "continue / exit" screen at the end of the level, the one that tells you how you did, and when I came back to the game and selected continue, it started before that whole section again so I had to do it again. (In case devs want to test this, it's the section where you're racing to exit the falling spacecraft). Apart from that one section, and having to do it twice, I liked the game. I recommend playing it in shifts with a puzzle game or something in between, because nonstop high-precision platforming gets pretty wearing, as do most puzzle games. I alternated a level of this with a level of The Entropy Centre, which made both of them more enjoyable.
Broken achievements (they work in-game but not on Steam), awkward diagonal movements using a controller in a highly precise platformer. I can't recommend playing this in its current state.
Great platformer enjoyed it a lot.
Wow this was a really great platformer. Its tough but doable and very fair with checkpoints. The extra collectibles were difficult but so fun to try to grab and there is a mode that lets you go back to look for missed collectibles. The controls are tight and the level design is very fun and not repetitive. Bosses were very cool and interesting uses of mechanics too. Im always on the lookout for cool platformers to try out, I saw this played a while back at https://www.twitch.tv/thabeast721 and wishlisted it for later and glad I finally pulled the trigger and played it it was so much fun!
This game is such a challenge. I can beat it but i just dont want to anymore. Every game nowadays gotta be a challenge with people jeez
This is a solid platformer that looks great! The mechanics are fun yet simple, so it's a precision platformer that relies on level design rather than your move set to get through levels, and there's nothing wrong with that! It's still a fun game at the end of the day and that is all what it tries to be. The controls are tight and the sound track is good. The story and characters are weak but that's fine, it's not a focus. It focuses on being a fun platformer and it's good at what it does. A game to crush one day for fun, though probably will forget in a week that you played it though. 7/10
