It's waaaay too simple, feels like it was made over a weekend to make some money, took me less then 5 hours to 100%, even though devs artificially prolonged it by not adding fast travel. Fighting system is an old school-arcade style, with nothing but jumping and button mashing, crafting is almost useless because you don't get to change equipment much, some solutions are pretty dumb, for example mask that allows you to breathe in toxins, which makes you choose if you want to live or equip a new-found-better-one. Overall, grab it on a good discount if you are a huge arcade-metroid fan
Nice
Fun short metroidvania, and especially impressive from a solo developer. Map and combat design are solid, bosses are interesting and well-telegraphed, and the writing is pleasantly humorous. I first played this last year and ran into a save corruption bug, so big props to the dev for fixing those even if I did have to restart from scratch (and hey, that's on me for getting greedy and dying in the tutorial boss fight). Good stuff all around, and I'm excited to see what they do next.
Review
Plague of Yamorn is a modest, rough around the edges MetroidVania; pretty short, a bit frustrating at the beginning, but decent enough once you get more upgrades.

The aesthetics are grimdark (which I love), and the pixel art is not detailed, but it's not bad; I like it.
The combat is rather simple; you don't have much freedom to attack, and it can be frustrating or boring at times (especially in the beginning). There are secondary weapons, but I almost never used them; dealing damage the usual way was more efficient.
I think It's nice that it has an RPG aspect to it, like consumables or weapons and equipment.
The map is not very precise; there is no player marker on the map, just a green layer around the room where you are. It's not good.
I appreciate the damage numbers, it makes sense since there is an RPG aspect present, but there is no beastiary, and that's a shame.
The bosses are pretty simple; I didn't quite enjoy the battles because they were barely a challenge. And the final boss was also very underwhelming.
The plot is... well, there. I wasn't very interested in it, and by the end, that didn't change.
There is barely a fast-travel system present, and that's a huge letdown. It wouldn't be a problem if it were gratifying to just walk around, but it's not. It is not a big issue once you are in the late game, but at the start, it is.

100% Map
I made a guide featuring a 100% full map for anyone who's interested. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3285374669
Conclusion:
Plague of Yamorn is rustic; it's not a formidable MetroidVania, and some things like the lack of decent fast travel alongside the other things I mentioned, make it difficult to score a higher grade. But I have to give credit to t3h3l (the developer); the version I played was bugged, and the bugs were serious; it could affect the ending, but after I gave my review, he fixed every single bug that I found. Kudos to him. And with that, the score is:
5/10
(Edited after completing the game) Solid metroidvania that does almost everything right. Combat and exploration are fun and the game never overstayed it's welcome in its 5 hour to 100% run. I really enjoyed this game but it can always become better so i'll explore some of its flaws. They are mostly minor things even if I end up writing more about them than what I liked. The minigames can become tedious especially if you have to do them in succession (multiple locked doors in a row and multiples of the same harvesting material in the same room). The syringe one is especially bad since it was always exactly the same for me. Some of the bosses are not great, they follow exactly the same loop all the time regardless where the player is. This makes the final boss particularly easy since once you learn their patterns they can become extremely easy. Adding more diversity to the loop would do wonders. On a more personal opinion boss second phases are fun and this game should have them even if its just making them faster and adding a red hue to the boss sprites. Level ups are also very unbalanced. Could easily be tweaked by having stronger powers like the "secret room detector" cost more mutations, and buffing weaker ones like the crit to give more crit chance The dev proved he can make a great metroidvania game though I wish he would take more risks and bring something new to the genre.
This game is 5.99$ in the US. It has a perfect aesthetic that also throws some unexpected story expansion your way. It is odd. It has some very cool writing when it comes to the story details that you can discover. If you've found your way here to this page on such a massive website, you already have enough experience with Indie games to know what they can be like. This is not just impressive for a single developer, this is quite freaking solid amongst the entire gamut of independent games. The art alone is worth the asking price. If you make an income at all, this game deserves your money. 10 bucks an hour dealing with talking turdmuffins who want to make their children obese at McDonalds? After taxes, you're only getting 7.50 most likely. Sorry to say, but this game is worth an hour of your life drenched in the oil of the french and the fry. It is worth 1 hour of working towards your death without healthcare in order to allow some ♥♥♥♥ franchisee to pay the real estate company that is McDonalds. If you're planning on eating McDonalds at any point, please skip that meal and buy this game. All the love with friendship, Chripsin Scrattlebury
This is a great little metroidvania, 100%ed in around 5 hours but absolutely worth the price of admission, the creator seems to update the game pretty often and with the promise of ng+ and other goodies, I'll definitely return to this one! Expect a difficult start, you're weak as hell and you have to play carefully, that being said, with a bit of farming you can craft a couple of items that will make your life alot easier. Health management and making the run back to the save points is a must as you lose progress when you die, unlike certain souls likes. There's some great background writing (and some genuinely funny notes), the story might not go exactly down the direction you expect it to and I thought it was an interesting angle.
Short and sweet metroidvania game.
