It's fun and simple BUT it's no Ori or Hollow Knight but it scratches the metroidvania itch for a little while. So after playing it for a little bit more I have beat the game in about 10 1/2 hours or so. Honestly the game was just too easy and being a Metroidvania there's just not enough going on your abilities are very much limited and you don't really have much to upgrade. So even though the initial part of the game is challenging for a little bit but once you kind of Max out your weapons and your gear and your village you just have way more resources than you ever need and so unlike Terraria where all that extra stuff can be useful for this game you really do cap out super quick and the end game is very lacking it's not very hard the enemy types have a lot of HP and do a lot of damage but other than that they don't have a lot of routines or a lot of intelligence and honestly there's not enough enemies where you're ever really challenged.
The game feels cheap, fighting is boring and visual of locations stays the same, therefore you get lost on the level. It feels overpriced even with 50% discount.
Rinse and repeat.
Completed the game in 5 hours in 30 min. Honestly I enjoyed this metroidvania pre-historic style very enjoyable movements a bit of a grind to getting level up to getting upgrading skills but recovers it with having to give two skill points when getting to complete of each painting. It has a nice story without having any dialogue it pretty much express its emotion. Only issue is trying to find that missing cat that I saw in the beginning that is hard to find. I also like that you can hire one of your villager to assist you or the dinosaur to assist you against foes.
This is a neat little metroidvania. Primal Planet can be a little obtuse and could have probably used a few more markers on what things actually do, but the game is short enough that its flaws don't last long enough to be a big enough bother.
I had a blast playing this game. It was difficult to figure out how to progress, but that kinda goes with the genre.
not enough to keep my attention. i keep dying every 100 feet or so, and the game mechanic isnt good enough to make me want to tank the deaths and git good.
I’m a sucker for anything with dinosaurs and metroidvanias are one of my favorite genres to play, so on those merits alone Primal Planet seemed worth my attention. Boy did it surpass my expectations. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the superb and expressive animations. It’s a joy just to look at how things move. Hopping about is responsive and natural, so I quickly got to moving about with ease. After some scripted sequences to establish the stakes (which is very well done) I get to exploring the world… and what a cool place to explore. Let me tell you about the time I stumbled on a T-Rex, ran from it through a herd of panicking stegosaurs, ran into a cave where I discovered a giant crocodile who I led out to the T-Rex and merrily left them to fight things out. Or the time I came upon a den of sleeping velociraptors high up in some cliffs. Or when I figured out that I could ride a dolphin. Or when I learned that eating raw meat would make me vomit uncontrollably. These unscripted moments are what made the game a delight for me. There’s no hand-holding when it comes to progressing, but it was easy enough to intuit where to go and exploring new sections of the map was often progress enough. There’s no blinking-dot-on-the-map here, but there are obvious landmarks and characters highlighted. Speaking of the map, I will say that my one major gripe was needing to constantly refer to the map, especially towards the end of the game. A mini map or letting me drop a pin and showing an on screen indicator would have been preferable, I think. But that certainly didn’t detract overall. At the end of the game, I discovered a new area and weapon that was incredibly satisfying. What a fantastic adventure.
