Tags: Casual - Twitch & Arcade Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: WASD kiting and precision aiming. Core concept better realized in "Last Encounter" link in full review. Unfortunately topdown shooters without proper Xbox360 pad are not all that enjoyable. The space exploration theme has local coop, better audiovisuals and roguelike progression in the Last Encounter. Pixel Star just looks so limited in comparison. Removing permanently for declutter. https://store.steampowered.com/app/719800/Last_Encounter/

probably the best game i've ever played, please add more Soul Forge or i'll die

I like it for what it is, a twin stick space shooter, but sometimes it's really hard to tell where damage is coming from, many enemy effects tend to be very muted and when you have your screen shaking and explosions everywhere you really need to be able to discern enemy projectiles near instantly. Your own bullets are bulky colored lines, but enemy bullets are tiny red dots ( ex: https://i.imgur.com/1MEPLPt.jpg ). This is really my only complaint, but it's a big one. ( occasionally things fly in from offscreen at high velocity but I'll just chalk that up to space realism ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) Other than that, the regenerating base shield is a nice concept, you can survive one hit every so many seconds which helps reduce the frustration caused by my main complaint, you have a health bar that only takes damage when you have no shield, there's a nice variety of weapon and support choices, and the absence of a plot means it's all gameplay. You beat a few bosses then go into endless mode and play until you die, some of your abilities scale infinitely and it can be very intense! Fun for a few hours, and at the price point I think that's pretty good.
Pixel Star is one of those games. It's basically a 'play until you die' game, where the whole idea is just to run around shooting stuff. I picked it up half off and I'd say my money was well spent. It has enough complexity to keep you engaged, it's very pretty, and the controls are smooth. It's less than the price of a coffee at starbucks and gave me three hours of enjoyment so I'd say it's very good. Just don't go in expecting anything and it will reward you richly.
its fun
