A surprisingly fun overhead shooter. Tough enemies and gigantic explosions provide ample difficulty, but it's the relatively strict time limit that makes Pineapple Smash Crew the game that it is. The player is forced to develop an efficient strategy and work quickly to accomplish objectives, though the temptation to wander and collect the loot necessary to level up can at times be overwhelming. Randomly generated levels and three modes of difficulty provide some amount of replayability and variety, but realistically, you'll probably only get a few hours out of this game before the whole thing starts to get stale. Still, I can see this game becoming a fun diversion to revisit on occasion.
I have thought about this game a lot since 2012. Sure it isn't that great as a complete package, but there is something really special about it. Maybe if Rich had more time to add content or some help, this game would have really been something extraordinary. What we got is great but flawed nonetheless. I hold this title dear to my heart for inspiring me to enter the industry, and for being a labor of love that never quite reached the heights it could have. To me, PSC is very bittersweet. I don't know how Rich is doing. I wish him the best. But this game gained little traction. I can't imagine it could sustain a career for long. Everything about the game oozes with a love for gaming. The controls are crisp and the main loop of clearing out ships on pro-merc is a blazing fast expedition of twitchy reflexes and planning. But that is all there is. Every level feels the same, which is a massive shame. A game like this could have really left a mark on the indie scene, but it just couldn't dress its beautiful bones in enough meat. This is likely the result of the project being a solo endeavor. Making a game is REALLY hard, especially when you are alone. Props to Rich, but I wish there was more. 9 years later and I still wish for a sequel to go deeper. I recommend PSC to anyone who thinks it looks cool and isn't expecting something too deep. If you are looking for especially deep gameplay, well designed levels, or a wealth of content, then you may want to pass.
Feels like a waste of time, honestly. You roam a ship killing everything you can while your characters occasionally spout one-liners. Naming your characters feels pointless because after a character dies, he is replaced by another, randomly named character. I didn't see any clear cut plot or story behind it. You just go through level by level, and it feels like it never ends. I got bored rather quickly.
Quite repetitive. I couldn't get invested in it like I did with Cannon Fodder (The 90's DOS game that it was inspired by).
This game in 5min https://youtu.be/P2kmgI5kmiw an arcade like top down shooter. it's enjoyable but you can only play story mode to the end. gameplay easy lets you take your time and you don't need to worry about deaths much but normal you'll need to rush as there is a radiation timer that when it runs out you'll take damage also your limited on replacement troops. you control 4 characters grabbing power-ups to survive mission and hack computers. if you lose 1-3 of your characters you can get replacements. they level up as you do missions and you can buy a few hats (4 or 5) for style. each time you go out your given a set of missions with a random difficulty and other info so you can pick what you want. you try to survive missions and download info from the computer on each level. once you beat it you can restart with your character levels.
The music is great, controls are responsive, and I like the randomly generated ships. I feel like it is a little bit expensive for the content though, so I would wait for a sale if you are interested. Name wisely your four soldiers, play on the hardest difficulty, and forecast their woeful demise.
This tech demo is great, all the parts are there, can't wait to see the game they make from it!
Why the fark did I buy this game? There's a lack of in-game help, little instructions, and just to make me REALLY confused, none of the controls worked for grenades. Plus, I got stuck on a level with not being able to locate an exit after everything was dead. That kind of sounds lame, but 1 thing is broken here and it isn't me.
A fun solo little arcady tacical game where you have to fight your way through the levels with your squad.
