Oh, I never wrote a review of this. Oops! ... Um... Petal Crash
A cute and fun, nostalgic feeling puzzle game! There's so much heart put into this game, from the art, music, and mechanics. I'm still learning the ropes, but I'm having fun playing! The characters are fun, and I'm looking forward to playing each of their stories. Highly recommended to puzzle league fans that want to try a new playstyle!

fun cute tight puzzle game with marxist grunglers, lesbian moms, lesbian dwarves (? she asks another girl on a date) and nonbinary centaur idols feels like that speaks for itself
the fairy hurt me in ways I can't describe. I will never be the same.
simple. cute. fun. love it!
Like a never-released Game Boy Advance game with some Kirby-like tunes from another dimension. Petal Crash has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it blooms into neat puzzle game. There are plenty of game modes to keep you entertained. The puzzle mode is a good way to start learning and melting your brain. Everything runs flaw(er)lessly on the Steam Deck, without turning it into a jet engine. 10/10 🎋 🍃 🌾 🌺 🌻 🌹 🌷 🌼 🌸 💐
Petal Crash is an inventive competitive puzzle game developed by Friend & Fairy and published by GalaxyTrail that successfully blends the charm of classic arcade puzzlers with mechanics that feel fresh and original. Rather than relying on the familiar formula of falling blocks, the game revolves around pushing colorful Petals across the board to collide with matching pieces, creating explosive chain reactions that can quickly change the outcome of a match. This simple concept grows into a surprisingly deep system that rewards experimentation, planning, and precision, making every round engaging whether you are playing casually or aiming to master its advanced techniques. The core gameplay stands out because every movement matters. Instead of reacting to randomly falling pieces, players actively position and launch Petals to trigger increasingly elaborate combos. Building efficient chains requires foresight, spatial awareness, and the ability to predict how each move will influence the entire board. Early matches are approachable thanks to intuitive controls and clear mechanics, but the strategic possibilities become much more rewarding as players discover new ways to construct devastating sequences. The balance between accessibility and complexity gives Petal Crash lasting appeal, allowing newcomers to enjoy immediate fun while offering veterans plenty of room to refine their skills. The game offers a generous amount of content that extends well beyond simple versus matches. Its Story Mode introduces a colorful cast of memorable characters on a lighthearted adventure involving the Sacred Blossoms, adding personality and context to the gameplay without overshadowing the puzzle mechanics. Each character feels distinct through expressive dialogue and appealing visual design, making the campaign enjoyable from beginning to end. Beyond the narrative, players can spend countless hours exploring Puzzle Mode, Arcade Mode, Survival challenges, Time Attack, cooperative play, and competitive battles, providing a wide range of experiences that keep the gameplay fresh long after the main story has been completed. Competitive multiplayer is where Petal Crash truly excels. Local versus matches are fast-paced, tense, and highly rewarding, with every successful combo sending obstacles toward opponents while forcing players to react under pressure. The mechanics create exciting back-and-forth battles where momentum can shift instantly through a single well-executed chain. Customizable rules and multiple gameplay options accommodate both casual gatherings and serious competitive sessions, while cooperative modes provide a welcome alternative for players who prefer working together instead of competing against one another. The inclusion of online functionality further strengthens the package by making it easier to challenge friends and skilled opponents from around the world. Presentation is another major highlight. The colorful pixel art captures the spirit of retro arcade games while maintaining a polished modern appearance. Character portraits are expressive, environments are bright and lively, and the animations make every combo feel satisfying to execute. Visual effects remain energetic without becoming distracting, ensuring that the board is always easy to read during hectic moments. Complementing the visuals is an upbeat soundtrack filled with energetic music that perfectly matches the game's cheerful atmosphere, while crisp sound effects enhance the excitement of every successful chain reaction. The puzzle design demonstrates impressive variety throughout every mode. Story battles gradually introduce new concepts at a comfortable pace, while dedicated puzzle stages encourage players to think creatively instead of relying solely on quick reactions. Survival and Time Attack challenge players to improve both speed and efficiency, adding additional reasons to revisit the game after completing the campaign. This variety ensures that players are constantly developing new strategies rather than repeating the same solutions, giving the game remarkable replay value despite its focused gameplay concept. Technically, Petal Crash delivers a polished experience. Controls are highly responsive, making precise movements feel natural and dependable even during intense competitive moments. Menus are straightforward, the interface remains clean and easy to navigate, and performance stays consistently smooth throughout every mode. The game's stability allows players to concentrate entirely on strategy and execution, which is essential for a puzzle title that demands accuracy and quick decision-making. The game is not entirely without shortcomings. Its strategic depth can initially seem intimidating for players who have little experience with competitive puzzle games, and mastering advanced chain-building techniques requires dedication. Likewise, the story serves primarily as an enjoyable framework for the gameplay rather than offering a deeply emotional or complex narrative. Fortunately, neither issue significantly detracts from the overall experience, as the primary focus remains on delivering satisfying puzzle mechanics and competitive gameplay. Petal Crash succeeds because it modernizes a beloved genre without abandoning the qualities that made classic arcade puzzlers so compelling. Its original mechanics, excellent variety of modes, memorable cast, polished audiovisual presentation, and rewarding strategic gameplay combine to create a puzzle game that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new. Whether someone is looking for an engaging single-player adventure, a challenging competitive experience, or an addictive multiplayer game to enjoy with friends, Petal Crash consistently delivers an entertaining and highly replayable experience that deserves recognition among the best modern indie puzzle games. Rating: 9/10
Worth it for the soundtrack alone.
