About
„Cleo - a pirate’s tale“ is a Solo Developed Retro Pixel Art Pirate Adventure with a lot of nostalgic flair, humor and a linear story, inspired by the old Zelda games and the classic LucasArts adventure games.

„What is the most important part of a story?“
Cleo is a 14 year old cynical girl, living a repetitive life with her father in a bar. She knows everything about the epic adventures of pirate legend Captain Cabeca, but in her everyday life, she is just surrounded by boring fishermen and unsuccessful pirates, hanging around at the counter.
But when Cleo finds a strange pirate-logbook and sees a ghost, who gives her a mysterious hint, her boring life is about to get turned upside down. She is thrown into a dangerous adventure and finds herself in a world of lies, deceit, greed and bad breath - the world of pirates - and most of them are looking for the same thing:
THE TREASURE OF ETERNAL MEMORY.

"Kraken Fodder" is a mini game inside the game.
It is a card and dice game, which is taken pretty seriously among fishermen and pirates. One round takes about 5 minutes and the game is about destroying your opponents card deck with canon balls. HAHAHAR!
Throughout the game, Cleo has to play this card game against a few NPCs.

The game was successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2020 and was released late 2021 with full voice acting in English and German.

Arrrrrrr! The pixel-art backgrounds of this grand adventure kept me mesmerized for countless hours, aye they did. Through the whole tale, ye sail alongside a pink-haired lass, guided by sharp and well-placed story cutscenes that, once finished, toss ye right back onto the deck of adventure. I took a liking to the size of the characters, the clever way each pixel dances to life, and those bold, sun-soaked colors fit for any pirate’s map. More than once I caught meself just starin’, lost in the variety of the art. By the end, I swear me eyes weren’t round no more — they’d turned square as pixels. The care of the developers be clear as calm seas: lively character interactions, sharp-tongued jokes, the call of the pirate’s life, tasks and deeds, unlockin’ new bits of chatter, pokin’ around every corner, and givin’ things a good think — none of it be wasted effort. Across all these strange and wondrous lands, every detail adds treasure beyond measure. And by Davy Jones, the voice work and narration deserve a hearty cheer. The characters ring true, and the narrator spins the yarn like a seasoned sea dog, holdin’ the whole tale together. Now hoist the sails for the finest side game of the lot — Kraken Fodder! A dice-and-card brawl where ye blast yer enemy’s cards to splinters with cannonballs and devilish tricks. This here game be vital to the voyage, so steel yer nerves and win it on the first broadside if ye want to sail onward. A roaring pirate ballad of a game, stuffed to the brim with booty that’s both bountiful and within reach! Ay ay, me hearties 🗺️ 10/10! ☠️
This is, in its compact, modest way, a complete success. There are so many products that sell themselves as "tributes to the adventure games of yore" or something similar. This one does this. Most of them suck. People don't know how to tell stories. develop characters, or balance out point-and-click scenarios. Some still make you spin pipe sections around for no real reason. This one does not suck. It doesn't aim too high, and it hits the mark it set for itself: small, sweet, and entertaining. Puzzles are fun, none too hard, and integrated into the plot. Nostalgic pixel graphics are spot-on and voices are good, too. It's kind of tiny, but if on sale, worth it.
Fun story. The only negative thing I have to say is that the control options on laptop/mouse are not intuitive. I kept wanting to hit enter instead of right clicking.
Eine echte Perle unter den Retro-Adventures! Die deutsche Originalversion ist mit viel Liebe verfasst, die Figuren, Dialoge und Schauplätze sind einfach herrlich. Gerne mehr davon!
A delightful throwback to the point and click adventures of old. Almost all the characters are entertaining and engaging, with only really one early on one being genuinely off-putting and could perhaps have done with a bit of extra work on, and even then, they're not on screen for too long before you never see them again. The humour is a great mix of belly laughs, sensible chuckles and groanworthy puns, the music is all lovely and perfectly fitting, the moments of earnest heart and seriousness really hit right, and it really earns the plot twists. I was genuinely tearing up near the end. Greatly recommended, this is definitely a new favourite.
Mega schönes Spiel!! Kann ich nur jedem wärmstens empfehlen. Die Animation ist cool, die Charaktere und Gespräche sind witzig, die Story interessant und ganze Spielerlebnis ist einfach super! Beeindruckende Arbeit!
Really cute, about 4 hours long, it's very much an isometric LucasArts P&C Adventure. The Pixel style and many of the animations could be right out of DotC. The puzzles are good, there's some that interconnect multiple locations - If you could do the monkey wrench, you'll be more than fine here. Added to the mix is a card game, that's quite alright too and comes into play from time to time. All in all it could have used a few hours more game to be honest, there's a lot of promise in everything but it plays like a really fleshed out proof of concept. Not saying any of what is here is bad at all, it's all great in fact! I just want more!
it's a short game, but i loved it
i don't play much point and clicks but this one is pretty fun!
